What do you guys think is better? Sending in a letter of intent before or after being placed on the waitlist? I interviewed in mid-September and haven't heard anything.

I'd say the sooner the better. That way they can see your continued interest in their school. The waitlist last year was ranked, so once you're on there I don't think a letter would make a difference, because they're not going to change the ranking around (at least I am pretty sure they wouldn't). Send it in ASAP.

I forgot about that part. Thanks for the info!

Does anyone happen to know the deans' names so I can send the letter of intent?

Speaking of Waitlist, how deep did they go into it last year?

When I sent my letter of intent to a different school, I just sent it to the admissions office, and they got it to the right people. If you want to send it to the dean of admissions directly, I think their names are in the packets they gave out on the interview day. I will try to look at my UA folders later today if I remember.

I don't remember exactly, but I think Tucson got to number 51 or 52 on the waitlist last year. You can check the end of last year's thread, which is named "University of Arizona Questions" I think.

I had a couple of minutes of free time, so I decided to look at last year's thread for those of you who were curious about the waitlist. According to the last post in that thread, the final waitlist number was 55. It looks as though they accepted number 49 around July 8th a couple weeks before school started. Oh, I guess I should point out that this was for Tucson. I couldn't find any quick information about the Phoenix campus, but I do remember that the two schools have different waitlists (hence MadEvans getting in to PHX and not Tucson). Also, it is probably worth pointing out that last year did not include the OOS applicants, but who knows how many of them will actually come to UA and how many just applied because it is close to California 🙂thumbdown) or Utah? That will probably affect the number they get to on the waitlist.

Anyways, it is WAY to early to be thinking about the waitlist now! Keep your hopes up, because there are still lots of seats still available.

Thanks! My roommate threw out my UA folders on accident, so I don't have it anymore. Is it Dr. Goldschmid for Tucson? I don't remember his name because I don't think he gave a speech the day of my interview.

I decided to ditch my only class today, so I am home from school and looking through my UA-Tucson folder. I don't see the name of the dean of admissions. As I sign of protest against MadEvans I burned my UA-Phoenix folder weeks ago...jk, I just can't find it right now. I jumped on to the UA med website and found the admissions email address for Tucson: [email protected] and for Phoenix: [email protected] You can probably just email it to them instead of snail mail, and that way they can get it right away, print it, and confirm that it did in fact arrive.

Sheesh, I'm sensing some animosity coming from you lrk. And, I thought we were friends.

FYI - Phoenix's waitlist is not publicly ranked, so don't stress about sending letters in at any specific time. The process remains dynamic throughout the year.

And, good advice on just sending it to admissions. They can get it to the right place.

Also dean FYI: http://www.medicine.arizona.edu/the_College/index.cfm

For some reason I thought Dr. Malan was the dean down in Tucson, though. He must be vice-dean? Oh well, shows how much I know.

😱 Animosity??? No way! I just want to keep up this artificial war between Tucson and Phoenix that I keep trying to start...😀

Irk, you are such a troublemaker!! Shouldn't we try to keep the peace between the schools?! 😍 Peace and love, man, peace and love!

I am all about keeping the peace! We are all going to be working together in the profession one day...

I have 3 more days to decide between Phoenix and Tucson but no matter which one I decide I will love you all!!!

👎 Peace and love are no fun! Jk, jk!!! Phoenix ->:highfive:<- Tucson. Many of us will be working together in Arizona, so we should get used to high fiving each other.

How about this California -> :slap:<- Arizona? Wait, with all the OOS students coming in this year, we'll probably end up going to school and working with them this year too...dang it! You guys ruined all my fun! Now who am I supposed war against??? D.O. students? Caribbean students? AHHHHHHH!!!!
:boom:

Anyways, back on topic, good luck to those waiting!

Send in your letter of intent to Tucson now, that way tomorrow or Thursday Phoenix will back-fill their slot with me!

I just got back from visiting my brother, who had a tonsillectomy today, and being in a hospital always puts me in a good, optomistic mood.

I thought I was the only weirdo who feels comfortable and at home in a hospital. =) I'm glad that there are others who share the sentiment.

I feel sick when I think about UA too much. Want to go here so so so so bad that I keep having nightmares about not getting in.

Dr. Malan was dean of something for a while but stepped down a few months ago.

Nice. Malan came to phx recently to give us a lecture on anesthetics. Someone mentioned he was the dean of something, and I must have had it confused. Good to hear you guys like the new administration down there. 👍

on behalf of my friend who is trying to decide between the campuses: is there any tuition difference between Phoenix and Tucson? Or do they cost the same?

Try to keep a positive outlook. There is still a lot of time left, and many, many more acceptances will go out over the next few months.

I'm under the impression that they are the same cost since I think the Arizona Board of Regents sets that.

Am I the only one that has already started worrying about getting my application together again? I am so scared that I am going to have to go get LOR's, write essays, all that stuff... AGAIN, that I am already beginning to worry.

I know that we still have time, but I just want some validation that other people are as annoyed as I am about even POSSIBLY having to reapply.

ACK!

Me, every release date so far...
😴😱🙄😕😡:scared::idea:😴

I know you are not alone. Hell, I felt the same way before I got an acceptance too. I honestly wish there was something magical that anyone could tell you to make it better, but the fact is that the only thing that will make that feeling go away is an acceptance. It sucks. My wife was always trying to reassure me, but it didn't really make a difference. The best thing to do is to try to find something to do to distract you (but even this only somewhat works). Just hang in there. (insert motivational picture of kitten hanging).

I have been playing waaaaaay too much Madden lately. Far more than a married, 24 year-old father with hopes of getting into med school should. I should probably quit, but I'm getting pretty good. If any of you have Madden 2010 on PS3, my gamer tag is AZsportslink. Bring it on.

Believe me, it's just as NOT fun as you are thinking. The worst part is trying to figure out a way to improve yourself for next years cycle, since by the time you realize you need to apply again you only have a few months before AMCAS opens. That really isn't a whole lot of time to get a new job, earn a new certification of some kind, put out new publications, get a grad degree, or retake the MCAT. It's especially fun when you have to provide for a family while you do all that (having a sugar momma makes that a lot easier for me). I started work on a project last April that we were finally able to submit for publication just a month and a half or so ago, after I interviewed. I'm seriously hoping it gets approved for publication soon so I can send it in to the ADCOM before they decide my fate for this year.

Just try to take comfort in the fact that there are still over half the seats remaining, I guess. When you can't, find something distracting to do.

The thing that drives me the most insane is the waiting between acceptance dates. Two weeks seems to take forever. If they are not going to synchronize their acceptances, I wish the campuses would just decided to alternate their acceptances.

By the way, does anybody know if they are done interviewing candidates yet?

ehandber, I completely understand where you are coming from. I was just talking about that with some friends today! But a few things that I keep repeating so much they are becoming my new mantra is; 55% of the seats or more are open, they haven't rejected anyone, they rank their waitlists, they went 55 seats deep on that list last year. Just keep the faith, so so so so hard right now for me, and remember your have at least one person in the same boat with you. THIS GUY!

Also, all you incredible applicants that have been accepted, thank you for your words of encouragement. I was excited for getting the interview invite, I can't imagine the feeling when they tell you that you've been accepted.

Yea, thanks to everyone. This board has been much more supportive than I thought it would be, and that is exactly what we all need right now!

Ok. Here's to crossing our fingers!

I know PHX's next date is the 5th, but what about Tucson? Same?

Probably the 5th- that will be 2 weeks from the last one... there will be 2 releases in Feb. and then the waitlist (I believe) is the first week in March

(having a sugar momma makes that a lot easier for me)

Phx is interviewing for the first 2 weeks in Feb (then no more free lunches for me :cry🙂.

And, thank GOD for sugar mommas! :highfive:

haha, this makes me think of last year when my wife got her financial aid, and I kept telling her that she was gunna be my sugar mama. After a couple of days she banned me from calling her a sugar mama more than once a day...that was a sad day, but not as sad as when I finally realized she would not be my sugar mama. 🙁

Med school or sugar mama? I say sugar mama all the way! Who's with me?

My wife is a mechanical engineer and makes great money. Her company is very employee-friendly, and we could have a very comfortable life while I stay at home and take care of the kids. Maybe I don't need med school after all...👍 to that idea.

I'm all for being a trophy wife...er, husband...trophy husband. Unfortunately, my wife is gunna be a teacher. I should have been more of a gold digger and found some independently wealthy cougar, and then I would have had it made. Now I HAVE TO do this darn medical school thing...😎

Does anyone know good places in and around Phoenix to go running and/or trail running? Not on a track, but like a decent walking/running path or a not-too-steep trail with good terrain for running.

I'm not a big runner, but I'm sure there's lots of good places around Phoenix for that. Papago (spelling?) park in north Tempe/Phoenix area has nice trails you might want to check out. Its near the Phoenix Zoo. You just have to search. It also depends where in Phoenix you're looking, because Phoenix is huge. You obviously don't want to go to Chandler to do running if you are living in Anthem...

Maybe try a Google search for trails?

Camelback mountain is really fun if you're in to hiking, but for other trails, there is a long biking trail that runs from north Scottsdale to somewhere in Phoenix. I wouldnt know how to find it on the internet though.

There are some pretty good trails around South Mountain as well.

Usery and Superstition mountains in the east valley. Piestwa/Squa peak in the north. I ran the marathon on the 17th and found most people (including myself) do a lot of canal running. There are lots of canals in and around Phoenix metro.

So, countdown to Friday, huh? I was thinking it would be Tucson AND Phoenix this Friday, correct?

I assume it will be. Phoenix said on their Twitter account that they would send some out this Friday. With Tucson, I guess we'll probably assume they are going to since it was two weeks from the last date, although they did wait three weeks last time.

/QUOTE]

Yeah, I would think both of them are going to release the names this Friday. They both have approx. 55% of the names to release and its hard to believe that Tucson will do them all at once if they don't release half of the remaining this Friday.

What's odd is that I feel way less anxiety and pressure the weeks they are going to release the names, not sure why.

Me too. I think it's because I know that there is at least a chance of something good happening, as opposed to just waiting.

Does anyone know how many release dates Tucson and Phoenix have left? I can't remember but is the final release, where they accept most of the class in March...I hope its earlier for the sake of my sanity!

I'm not totally sure, but I think there are two releases from each school left before March- and then they send out one more accept, alongside the rejection/waitlist notices.

-Does anyone know if that is correct? I seem to have that in my memory, but I am not positive. If someone would call Tucson/Phoenix and ask, that would be awesome. I would do it, but calling them would give me a heart attack I think.

I gave up my seat at Phoenix and chose Tucson.... whoever gets my spot, your are welcome 😉 and you deserve it.

Phoenix is sending out more acceptances on Friday.

Good luck everyone and for those going to Tucson.... see you there!!! 😀

So do they accept a lot of people from early interviews (ex: mid-Sep) in March...when they're supposed to accept the biggest batch?

I don't know exactly how they do it at UA, but my guess would be that applications are in a constant state of review. By which I mean, if you interviewed early, your application will be continuously reviewed when acceptance decisions are made. This would mean that regardless of when you interviewed you still have a shot at an acceptance between now and the first day of classes until you hear otherwise. This is my understanding of how a rolling acceptance would be carried out.

aaaaaaaaah! acceptance to Phoenix! first acceptance to medical school! looks like i will be a medical student in the fall after all! yay!!!!

came via email, 3:52 PM (9 minutes ago). ooo i'm so excited.
