What's all this about last names? My last name starts with L. And here is the email, or at least the important parts:

Dear chagramama,

The University of Arizona College of Medicine-Phoenix in partnership with Arizona State University is pleased to share with you that you have been placed on our wait list for acceptance for matriculation in July, 2010.

You are a qualified candidate and our relatively small class size precludes our accepting all of the candidates we would like. As shared during the Applicant Visit Day wrap-up session, the Admissions Committee reserves the right to maintain a pool of candidates; therefore, there is no ranked position we can share with you today. On a separate, but related note, given the unpredictable nature of where a given applicant matriculates, we are unable to further clarify the probability that you may receive an acceptance to our campus.

Please respond by Thursday, March 11, 2010 via written message to [email protected] to either retain or release your position on our wait list. If for any reason you wish to withdraw from our wait list later, we would welcome this update, allowing another candidates the opportunity to be accepted. As you know, May 15th is the national “final” decision day for applicants; however, movement in our class can occur through the first day of orientation. First-year Orientation is scheduled for the week of July 19-23, 2010, at which time our class is considered final.

For me it came at 5:47 PM.

I was asking about last names to try to figure out if they sent out the WL in the order of last names, or in the order of the waitlist ranks, or what. Seems like it was probably last names.

Hmmm, any bets on when the Tucson WL will be released?

I think our best guess is the 12th.

I really am appreciating all the love. Maybe I should start one of those obnoxious 'If x amount of people join, then mathlink will be accepted to medical school' Facebook groups.

Hey, I did predict #52 on Tucson's waitlist and a Phoenix rejection. I stand by that. We'll see what happens. I'm still in the running for SLU, Loma Linda, and Creighton. Who knows, maybe I'll get into Creighton or SLU and be able to play on their football team for the first two years of med school. My most far-fetched med school dream has always been to go to a school with a D-II football program I could walk on to.

clever thinking.

What WL # were you last year? Weren't you ranked just before me? I just pray you don't get unlucky #64... like I was last year.

I am still waiting for the rejection letter...it's like it's the morning of my execution and I'm waiting for the warden to finish breakfast or something...just flip the switch already!

Yeah, I'm right there with you! I hope they don't wait until the end of the day again.

There's always the option of calling and saying how your "friend" was waitlisted, but you haven't heard anything yet and you were wondering if more were going to come out? If they say no, then no more wondering until the end of the day.

I really hope that you get on the list ML. If not though, your prediction was for Tucson. And, it seems like they haven't sent their list yet. You've still go plenty of hope for the list!

😀

Has anyone else heard anything yet? I keep checking back to see some updates!

I just wanted to clarify, that was 1:35 today - as in Friday?

I just got waitlisted for Phx too!!!! I received the e-mail about an hour ago. I extremely excited that they are still sending out spots, those of you still waiting don't lose hope!!!

Just withdrew from PHX, hope one of you gets my spots 👍

Ronweasley, if I get your spot, I'll take you out for wings or something.

No, but I haven't been rejected yet either. Maybe they've pegged me for a backfill slot and I'll just skip the waitlist.

I grew up a Cubs fan before the DBacks came to town, so I'm always overly optimistic this time of year.

I grew up a cubs fan in Chicago, "This is gonna be their year!" if I had a dime for every time I heard that

Yup! Keep your chins up! I am pullin' hard for all of us! I can't wait to have all of you as classmates. I imagine if we have grown this supportive and integrated as a team, then being classmates will be awesome.
😎

Let us in let us in let us in!

Let us in!
Let us in!
Let us in!

Come on Phx you've kept us waiting long enough.

Hmm, those of us who didn't get a waitlist email today, do you think we should expect a Phx-rejection on Monday then?

Who knows. It could come at 2 AM on Sunday. I don't know what to expect from them anymore.

Waitlist email from Phoenix this afternoon...yeah!

Yea, I was very surprised when we got waitlist emails at 6pm on a Thursday.

We have a lot of SDNers saying that got on to the PHX waitlist. I wonder if we just coincidentally take up most of the waitlist, or if the waitlist is quite large. Needless to say, I would much prefer if it is a big coincidence that we have so many people who made the waitlist. If we only have a third of the waitlist, that would mean that they made a waitlist that was at least the same size of the whole class.

From what I've heard, they do fill an entire class' worth of alternates.

Yikes! Well, I'm proud of us for having made up so many of the spots.

I want in so badly! Daannnngggiiiittttttt.

Did anyone end up calling Tucson to ask if they have any idea when they're gonna be releasing their list? (Or, if by chance they already have?)

I haven't called in the last couple days, but when I originally called a week ago or so they said second week of march, so I'll be anxiously waiting next week. I'll call Monday morning to check again and post what I find out.

Waitlist in phoenix! got the email yesterday (thursday) at 6:12 utah time.

I've been stalking this forum for the past few months and Im pulling for you to mathlink.

Sweet. Thanks a lot man!

Can I ask a question that is not DIRECTLY related to these releases? Seeing the previous poster's picture made me think of this.

Why is everyone so bent on anonymity and secrecy on these forums, and on MDApplicants? It seems to be a common thing among us pre-meds. For instance, it is very very rare that anyone ever says their GPA or MCAT score. Most of the time I hear "pretty good" or "above average" or something.

I mean, most everyone has a facebook profile now. That has pictures of you, your name, what you're interested in, and frequently other ways to contact you. So, it can't just be about not posting your identity on the internet.

I guess I just don't understand why we hide so much information from each other. Seems counterproductive kind of, especially when we are trying to figure out the enigma that is the admissions process.

Let's rally together and compel the state and the school to increase the class size for next year! What'd you say?!

Yeah, I've posted a handful of times and today finally decided to add a picture of me and my dog, I feel like I know a lot of you and I don't see a need for anonymity, except that I think subconsciously people see it as a kind of risk to put yourself out there as who you really are and then fail (as I expect to.) Facebook is different because I'm only on there with people that I know in person.

Well, I will be the first (and we'll see if I am the only one) to intentionally break my anonymity. I have not said anything (and don't intend on saying anything) on here that I wouldn't say in person.

I'm Erik Handberg! I am a senior at ASU, and some of you may know me as the TA for Animal Physiology. And, if I know you, please feel free to say hi! We're all in this together, right?

I'm Josh Goodman, I've lived in Phoenix since June and I'm pretty confident I don't know anyone unless I met you at the interview days. I'm a non-traditional applicant with sub-par numbers hoping for a miracle!

So I just counted on the last couple of pages and saw that there are 10 people who have gotten on to the Phoenix waitlist. That tells me that either SDN is more popular than I had realized or there is a particularly large portion of the waitlist that uses SDN, interesting when you consider that they may well not be done handing out waitlist spots.

Haha! ML. I just got an actual LOL out of that picture. Now THAT is a good dad.

My real name is Lincoln Matheson. That is my daughter, Mercedes, on my head. She is almost 6 months old now, in this pic I believe it was closer to 2. I'm done with my research so for the time being I'm actually a stay at home dad until I find work as an EMT. My wife of 2 1/2 years, Michelle, is a mechanical engineer.

I was born at Good Samaritan Hospital in Phoenix (it's Banner something now), lived in Queen Creek until I was 17, and have been in Tucson ever since, minus the two years I spent in Brazil. I came to Tucson exclusively for UofA, and the rest of my family is scattered across the valley. I graduated in Nutritional Sciences from UofA in December 2007. And for those who haven't been on this thread long enough to see me say this, it is my third year applying.

I was taking a nap on the bean bag when my wife put the baby on my head and took a picture, so the look on my face of bewilderment is genuine.

That's a great idea Erik. It's silly to have gone through this process together and still remain strangers. I'm Jeff Tully. I'm a Biochem senior at ASU and a chem 116 TA. I don't have a camera (or a facebook) and so I don't really have a photo of myself to post but I will say that my avatar is the cover of the White Stripes album Elephant, which is my favorite record of all time from my favorite band of all time. My username is derived from the main character in the 360 videogame Mass Effect (and it's sequel, Mass Effect 2, which I have not played yet because I am saving it as a reward for myself for finishing my thesis. Anything to get me through that nightmare!). Nice to meet you all. 🙂
