Hey this is for current UCI students. Do you guys know when the first day of school is (orientation/move-in day etc)? I need to figure out when I should end my job this summer and can start getting ready for med skool! 🙂

i think we started orientation like Aug 6th or something and classes started august 12th. Unless there are some major changes, plan on being in the irvine area by the first week of august. Whether that means you are living off capmus or on campus or whatever.... i know if you get on campus housing its likely you wont have a place for the first few weeks of school b/c the housing office runs by the undergrad schedule and not the med school schedule. In this case, youd either sublet or crash with someone else.

For anyone still pending for interview, you may want to call in to the office for your status. Mine says pending but the admissions office told me over the phone right now that I have already been reviewed and was not selected for an interview. Official notification (which I guess is a status change on the site) will be going out soon.

No, but during my interview, they specifically told us to send updates and other letters to the admissions office and NOT to Gayle. Not positive, but she might be on some kind of leave? Unless you're trying to contact Gayle about something else? In which case, it would probably be easier to just call the admissions office anyways.

I interviewed 2/22, just looked and saw my status of Alternate List as of 3/15/10... which is an earlier release than what I thought it would be, so I think everyone who interviewed in Feb should know their current status

And the interview is just one part of a huge whole. UCI typically has the most waitlist movement of any of the UC schools too, so you definitely still have a chance. Would you choose UCI over UCD though?

Alternate lists always have good movement, and from what I've heard UCI is a sucker for letters of intent. If they're your #1, let them know in May when the waitlist starts moving.

And because of my family issues, Id have to seriously consider UCI. There is just too much that is basically tying me down to the LA/OC area (hence why those 2 WL hurt the most!). Barring some insane financial aid package staying close to home is a huge priority. Id love to at least have the option along with ucd though. Hmm, I think because last cycle turned out the way it did, I'm really trying not to get my hopes up this time. 😛 And yeah I totally understand. Options are always really nice to have.. at least for us peons with no full ride. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you!

Yea just ask them to check your status for you over the phone. Now that they know there is little or no chance, they like to humor you and check whereas before they would just tell me to look on the website.

I am really hoping I get in to UCI, as I loved it when interviewed, but I was curious to know if anyone knows if its possible to do an MPH at another school while you are there, and when normally someone does it? Is it between 2nd and 3rd or 1st and 2nd? RySerr, do you know?

for those of you still waiting to hear about acceptances, keep in mind that the dean prefers calling on the weekends (i remember her saying that during the orientation for the interview day, and i got my call on a saturday too)...

you can send as many as necesary. Theres no set number. If you need to send 2 because you do have a lot of meaningful things to update them with, then by all means do so. But if all you have is enough info to write one meaningful one that is ok too. And yes a few people have been taken of the WL. But the large movement wont happen till may 15th

1. They dont release these scores, but we do very well. We have our own Kaplan course taught on UCI campus and they give you more time than Ive of heard of any school to study for the boards. The second years finished class a few weeks ago which means they have from then until the end of May to study and take for the boards. Thats over two months, which is an insane amount of time.

2. They gave us the 2010 match list and I also have the 2009 match list. Shoot me a PM with your email and I'll send them. We had someone match into UCSF dermatology this year. It doesn't get any more competitive than that. But i dunno how much that says about UC Irvine as it does the awesomness of that individual student THis is why you should take any match list with a grain of salt.

Same here. Called and they said I was reviewed once but scheduled for a second review. I think that's why they haven't rejected yet. Keep your hopes up, you never know..

No decision yet. 🙁 The very nice lady on the phone said that the committee is about one week behind schedule.
