Also... has anyone who RSVP'd for revisit day received a confirmation or any additional info? It's only like a week away, so I'm wondering if I should've heard something by now.[/QUOTE]

I did't receive anything either but I called and made sure they got it. Never hurts to double check🙂 Can't wait to see you all there!

Hey everyone,

So I posted this on the UCI site as well....but I need some help deciding between UCI and UCD. Let me know if you guys have any pros or cons that aren't only restricted to curriculum and academics, but also to lifestyle, student coherence, and location. I'd really appreciate any input.

Thanks

Congrats on multiple acceptances🙂 It's hard to tell, go with your heart🙂 I personally loved everything about UCD. I was on the waitlist but I didn't write any letters and they rejected me off the waitlist. I thought it was wird, didn't know they did it this way...Have you ever heard of that? They put me on the WL and sent me a rejection 2-3 weeks later...
Anyway, UCI was my top choice because of location (I just had a baby and moving away from the family didn't seem like a good idea), but I fell in love with UCD because people seemed really nice there and I liked the facility. I also think it's awesome that they are located on the medical campus, it saves time and, I think, gives you better access to things and docs...Just my opinion. But both schools are excellent and it's up to you. Consider where you would want to live and other factors non-school related. Good luck to you! HOpe to see you on Sat at UCI🙂

The location is one of the major draws of UCI for me. I love the OC - although housing can be a bit pricey, it's a safe and beautiful area that's close to the beach. While I think the location around Davis has gotten a lot better, especially over the last several years, it still ranks last in my list of places I'd like to live when comparing all of the UC schools. I also felt very relaxed and comfortable talking to everyone I met during my interview at UCI. Even though it was exam day, several students came up to wish me luck and offered to answer questions about the school. I also enjoyed getting to know the other interviewees and, if they're representative of how the class makeup ends up being as a whole, then I'd say that UCI tries to recruit a pretty diverse class since several were of varied ethnicities and non-traditional (like me). I know that I just felt at home at UCI and could really see myself being happy there for 4 years. But it's important to go with YOUR gut and not listen too much to SDN, because everyone is going to have different preferences and opinions. Only you are going to know what's really going to make you happy. Are you attending revisit day this Saturday? It would probably help you make up your mind.

hey everyone, just withdrew my acceptance - good luck to everyone i hope you get my spot 🙂

does uci podcast lectures? im applying next year and uci is my top school (so i can live at home). just wondering if ill have to drive out there everyday if i attend...

I believe they are because a few first years were saying that they didn't go to lectures. So I'm assuming they are.

unless there is a glitch in the system (happens every once in a while), all lectures are audio recorded and MOST are also linked up to the powerpoint presentations so that if you want to listen to a specific slide you can just click that slide and itll go to that part of the audio.

You definitely can be a ghost if you choose to be. There will be days that you will have to be on campus. Test days, obviously. Days that you have the clinical foundations course (seeing standardized patients). Thats about once a week (some weeks you wont have it). When anatomy starts, youll need to be on campus more frequently for dissection and/or dissection presentations.

So, before anatomy starts I'd say you will be required to be on campus 1-2 times a week depending on if there is a test that week. During anatomy, you will be on campus between 3-4 times a week (test on Monday, CF on tuesday or thursday, and maybe a dissection/presentation to attend). Also depending on how you study, you may choose to be in lab a lot outside of dissection/presentations aka just studying on the bodies. However, there are ways around going in to lab and still doing well so thats not necessarily required.

wow, recently got my financial aid package and yes UCI, you have bought my love. looking forward to seeing you all at second look, i'll definitely be attending now.

Just finished with Revisit Day. Some info for those who may not have been able to attend:

The white coat ceremony will take place on campus the evening of Friday, August 6th. That weekend will then be filled with get-to-know-you type of social activities with orientation starting on Monday, August 9th.

Pre-clinical curriculum will remain mostly the same with 2nd year being P/F as well.

The 3rd year curriculum is changing a bit though. Neurology and radiology, which are currently taken in 4th year, are going to be moved to 3rd year to allow for more elective time in 4th year. Radiology will also be more heavily emphasized and integrated into other required clerkships during 3rd year.

Also, talking to some current 3rd years, I found out that the 3rd year is actually somewhat flexible. One can defer some rotations (Family Med or Psych) to 4th year and request to take another rotation in its place that may typically only be offered to 4th year students. This is invaluable when deciding what specialty to go into. For example, if I was heavily considering Urology and knew for sure I wasn't interested in Psych, I could put off my Psych rotation for a year and take a Urology elective instead in order to get exposed to that specialty prior to applying for residencies. I think that's a pretty awesome set up.

A larger variety of Sub-I's will also be made available for 4th year students.

Anyways, I really enjoyed UCI's second look. Met some really nice people and the feeling I got from the school pretty much solidified my decision to attend. 🙂

Oh, also from what I understand, 3rd years get 4 weeks off but one can opt to use 2 of those weeks to fit in a short elective. I like that the 3rd year curriculum has more room for customization than I had originally thought.

Was a great day. One correction to MiniMoo's post, though: orientation starts the morning of Friday, August 6. It continues on Monday and Tuesday of the following week and classes begin that Wednesday (Aug 11).

I think we're also to be receiving an email with more info and paperwork (immunization forms) within the next couple of weeks.

Overall, the visit made a good impression... as if I was undecided. 😀

My bad. You're right. I vaguely recall them saying we have to be there the morning of 8/6 now. Good catch. 🙂

Also all transcripts must be turned in by 7/15.

And an email will also be sent out soon with a link to a housing forum exchange where you can interact with other incoming MS1 and MS2 students to find roommates and housing.

how good is UCI about getting back to you 4 weeks after the interview?

does anybody have the email for the admissions committee? i seem to only be able to find specific emails (events, interview, outreach, etc). where would we send updates?

thank you!

Thank you guys! I will pray for the best...lets hope that everything work outs for everyone 🙂. Best of Luck!

As time comes closer to the waitlist moving from the May 15th deadline. I just wanted to wish everyone the best of luck and as someone who has dealt with rejection and disappointment on many levels in my life I hope everyone gets exactly what they want. But knowing that probably it isn't possible, I just want to say in my experience- that in some way- it will work out ok no matter what happens. A year from now or maybe even a couple of years from now, I always know that when I look back on my life, things that were REALLY important, don't seem like the "end all" they were when I was facing them.

Again best of luck :luck: You all deserve it for the wonderful applications you've cultivated and self-invested to get here!

Lucky you. they keep asking additional info from me. And what really bugs me is that they didn't even let me know they needed it until I went back there during the revisit day! wonder how long they were gonna wait🙁 I had everything sent to them in April and they didn't do anything about it🙁 I'm kinda dissapointed🙁

👍

Disappointment would be an understatement for me this cycle. But really hoping I can at least get into 1 of my top 4 WL choices. That includes UCI.

just dropped my spot for this school. it was tough as I really enjoyed my visit here. either way, I wish you all the best of luck and hope the spot goes to a more deserving individual.

best of luck to all WLers.

thank you!!

And chin up to the folks still on the WL. Hopefully everyone in this thread will be hearing good news in the next few weeks.

Good luck to everyone on the waitlist!👍

No, not yet.

And when should we expect to get access to that P = MD site? After school starts?

i think it happened during orientation or something. once you guys all have everything filled out and have your emails and what not. Definitely before classes/tests start tho.

Sounds good. Did you need the link for the housing exchange or something? I'll post it here once I get the email about it. 🙂
