yikes! i think i just made a mistake...so I'm applying MD/PhD, and I selected that option on AMCAS. I filled out the secondary form, and while I was curious that there were no MD/PhD related questions, I just filled the secondary out anyways. I looked at UCI's MD/PhD website and they said a MSTP form was supposed to have gone out with the Secondary form, but I never got one...and I am currently pending review for an interview. what should i do?

I'd like to fill out the MSTP form if possible, but a) i dont know if I can modify my app and b) wont that just shuffle my application position to the back? I'd almost take an MD acceptance and apply MD/PhD after I get in.

I never saw a form for the AMCAS service, so I think I had to use UCI's form. I just want to make sure that I didn't have to send the form to AMCAS or my letter writers and it was ok to send the forms to UCI directly.

I would call just to be certain but I'm pretty positive you don't have to snail mail those confidentiality agreements into the admissions office. I never did when I applied last year. my interview status just changed from blank to "Pending Review". Does anyone know how long the wait is between getting that and finding out whether or not you get an interview?

I was "pending review" for a quite a few long months. got in eventually. You'll learn that patience is they key in this whole process otherwise it's really easy to go crazy.

oh yeah, I definitely need to be patient. I'm just impatient because UCI is tied for my top choice (other being UCSD). it's just got everything...20 min from home, great campus, great program, good faculty for research. *sigh*

I was planning on giving them a call today, but I decided to check my status page and it has marked my LORs as received. I guess I don't have to worry about the confidential form stuff now. 🙂

....instead, I get to worry about being marked complete and will pray for an interview invite!

Yesterday was awesome. I have no idea who you both are, but UCI is def a top choice now if not the top choice for me. I loved it and would be more than stoked to matriculate there (as we all would be). My interviews went great, but it seems like everybody's did, so I guess its all luck and waiting again... what do you think the average stats were for this weeks group? I'm afraid my 3.7 gpa will put me near the bottom

mine is <3.7 and just some fyi UCI is not huge on stats so dont worry too much...also a 3.7 and 36 mcat puts you near the top of near all applicants so i wouldnt worry. They really look at an app hollistically and try to think outsie of numbers would this person make a great physician. Which as we all know not all schools do. UCI looks beyond numbers

Are you joking? You're worried about your stats and you have a 36? Don't worry.
One of my interviews, however, did not go well. My interviewer was totally disinterested in me and seemed like he was waiting to leave. I have a feeling I will get a bad evaluation just b/c he didn't seem to care.

so i realized it had been a while since i heard from UCI, and since i have gotten interview invites from UCLA, UCSD, and UCSF, i thought i would go check my status on the UCI website. under "interview", it simply says "denied" --> WTF? they didn't even send an email?

we all want that! But like I said dude you got the 1st interviews at UCI and ure stats are pretty damn good, so at this point you just gotta wait and let it be. They wouldnt have invited you for an interview much less the 1st one if they didnt see something that makes them want you to come to the school you know 🙂

riddle me this...why does every CA pre med think that if you get an invite at one UC (especially UCLA or UCSF) that you deserve an interview at every UC...they are not all one school they are each different and will each like certain applicants more then other, just like every other school. IF UCSF takes you, not every UC should follow suit. Theres no need to explain much beyond that. Its like asking why creighton interviews me but georgetown does not or SLU did not...you cant compare schools like that

Dude, Dr. Peterson made it obvious that the admissions committee works really hard to mix the secret ingredients to pick the "perfect" class. So much effort is dedicated to make sure personalities fit. If you don't fit then you don't fit, it's nothing against you.

Also +1 with everything Elijah said. An interview at one school no way justifies interviews at another. Every school is looking for something different, especially beyond numbers. Best of luck with the awesome UC interviews you have.

Why can't you just be grateful for all the interviews that you've gotten? Most people would love to just have 1 interview from the UCs. This sense of entitlement is really annoying, especially on a forum where everyone is nervous and neurotic.

I'll be interviewing in the area in late November. I was wondering if anybody had success calling the admissions office and asking to have their application moved up for review in hopes of potentially having an interview at UCI as well. Currently, my application is pending review, but that apparently can last for months.

Would you advise me to call and make this request or do you think it is somewhat inappropriate?

So what did they say about notifying us? I know they said they'll be meeting on 10/14, but then somebody asked why it says Nov 15th in the MSAR and they said it might actually take that long, right?

my interviewer said the earliest well hear back is end of oct as decision will come out 2-3 weeks after the 1st meeting...so the nov 15th date in the msar seems basically right or very close.

As I've said in the forum before, if you see a "denied" in the interview status on your admission page this does not necessarily mean that your application was denied, especially if you did not receive an e-mail about this rejection. Keep waiting. You can also call the school to see what this means. I just remember that some classmates had seen "denied" (never received an e-mail) but received an interview invite a few months later. I don't exactly know what this means.

Yeah, I recall Dr. Peterson saying that we might get a Halloween present, and that Nov. 15th was a cushion for the admissions office. Hopefully we hear sooner rather than later.

Stay with a host. They usually have class at 8 so you can follow/ride with them to the interview. If you drove, keep your stuff in your car and take off afterward. If you flew, take your stuff to the interview with you. If you interview at the med center, they will drop you off at the airport afterward. If you interview at UCI, I think they will also take you (not 100% sure about that, though).

I read on Wikipedia that UC Riverside and Merced want to open School of Medicine in 2 years or more. Is that accurate? Heard anything about it?

If you didn't get into any other UC's, would you want to go to UC Riverside or Merced School of Medicine as entering class?
