Hi guys,

I read on Wikipedia that UC Riverside and Merced want to open School of Medicine in 2 years or more. Is that accurate? Heard anything about it?

If you didn't get into any other UC's, would you want to go to UC Riverside or Merced School of Medicine as entering class?

it wont occur until projected 2012 or 2013...furthermore with the impending doom of the UCs and the massive budget crisis they are facing...I dont think they will open on time if at all. UCs cant even afford teachers or hell even paperclips at this point (im not joking about paperclips its sad in our office at UCI)...how can they open a med school?

For serious. This is happening at all the UCs. A new school is not possible at this point. Ask again in 10 years.

ok riddle me this: interviews at all the other UCs, 4.0gpa, 31 MCAT, great extra curricular activities, and yet i was denied an interview at UCI - and not even through an email, i had to go look at my status online!

You dont get a gauranteed intriew at UCI if you get an intview at UCSF or UCLA. Thats not how it works, sorry.
They could care less where else you interview. Each school is looking for a very specific applicant. For whatever reason, you werent what UCI was looking for. Good thing is you have other interviews at great schools so forget about UCI and enjoy your time at other places.

Check your status page if you were complete in early August. I was complete on 8/12 and checked my status page a couple of days ago and the interview status box said Awarded. Did not receive an e-mail update yet. There were two possible interview dates for me: Monday October 19th and Monday November 2nd. Scheduled mine for the 19th.

Would you advise me to call and make this request or do you think it is somewhat inappropriate?

I did it and I got a response two business days later: an invite. If they're going to interview you, you'll get a good response. If they aren't interested, the request isn't going to change their minds.

ETA: I only called because I had interviews at UCLA and Drew/UCLA. I was hoping to combine my trips. I'm certainly not condoning calling for no good reason and asking for a review. 🙂

We appreciate the notice." so I don't think they look down on people who call to alert them of an impending visit (for other interviews). Just don't be surprised if it hurries along an impending rejection, if that's your fate.

I don't like giving exact stats. Something slightly <3.7, <35, IS.

I say it can't hurt. I always thought it was common to alert other schools of upcoming visits.

My August MCAT scores were released the second week of September and I got my secondary about a week later. I submitted it within 3 or 4 days and got an interview invite this week. So, there is still hope!

thanks! i'm ~3.9/35. i have absolutely no idea how competitive (or not) my app is because it's fairly nontraditional, so these first couple invites are pretty exciting!

now to get my nerves under control for the spanish speaking prime interview! THAT is nervewracking!

definitely e-mail. i don't know who's handling hosting for next week, but last week we had an exam so your e-mail may have gotten lost among other e-mails. Send another e-mail just to make sure, but I am sure that a host will be found in time for your interview.

So their first admissions meeting is this week on the 14th? Does anybody remember Dr. Peterson saying this, or am I trippin? If so, maybe we will hear soon. I know she said the end of the month, but my optimistic side says, maybe sooner!!??! So nervous for this, I loved this school.

Yeah, that's what I remember. Although I also remember her saying it might take until November 15th.

call if you want. Schools are busy and sometimes take a long time. the worst they will say is stop bothering us we will get to you when we get to you. At least then you can stop being neurotic and freakin out 😉

i heard from last year's folks that its just a status update, no email, and that you either get accepted or waitlisted, no rejections yet. good luck on Monday!

Im not even sure they reject anybody ever, you just dont come off the waitlist. If they do do rejections its not til really really really late. I dunno tho for sure since obviously i didnt go through that process with Irvine. This is post interview of course. They do reject pre interview and pre secondary.

um im not sure. i wouldnt sweat it tho. most of the class is pulled from the waitlist. If you do happento be waitlisted, its far from over. Altho it sucks b/c youll have the longest wait since you interviewed first and waitlist wont move til like may or something.....just let them know you are still there and interested. To be honest they expect most people that interview UCI so early in the year to go elsewhere. So if you show them that you really really wanna go there, thatll be heavily in your favor. You can send a letter of intent as to why you wanna go here, why you are a great candidate, etc. You can send in another letter of rec. They like that kinda stuff. So id say instead of asking why you were waitlisted, just show them why they should pull you off of it.

you mean w/o getting on the waitlist? If you meet anyone who says theyve been accepted pre-interview, I'd like to meet him/her 😛 To answer your question, yes. But it doesnt really mean anything, i guess it just means my app cycle was less stressful than others, haha, and for that i am very grateful.
