Congrats, what was the earliest interview date left?

I had the the option of feb 22 or march 8.

Anyone know how full the class is at this point? I heard that interview invites are into late Feb/early March already, which seems insanely late to me. 🙁

see my comment below. You dont need to worry about being "late." It doesnt matter when you interview at UCI, same likelihood of getting accepted.

Talking to Dean Peterson earlier in the year, she says there is no difference in chance of getting accepted if you get interviewed in September or you get interviewed in March. This may not be true at other schools, but it is for UCI.

Do you happen to know if UCI ever states that anywhere in writing? I know that UC San Diego articulates that same policy on its website, but I can't find that kind of statement on UCI's...

theres no formal articulation of the policy. If you ask Dean Peterson at your interview she will probably tell you what I just said - but you wont find it written anywhere. They accept about 1/3 of the interviewees from each interview day (which has about 40 applicants). The other 2/3 will be waitlisted and re evaluated later. So even if you are on the last interview day, 1/3 of those people will be accepted and the others will go on the waitlist. There is no preference on the waitlist in terms of date interviewed. I was complete around the same time and called admissions about a month ago to check up. The woman I spoke with told me my application had been "misplaced" and that she would put my application in for review ASAP, and that I should call in one week to check-up.

When I called a week later I got another person on the phone who said my application wasn't lost but still hadn't gone for review, and that there was nothing she could do for me. She told me to just sit tight. Now another month has gone by and I'm still pending review on the status page.

I think we should both call in...

they update your status a few weeks after interviewing if youre waitlisted, and call you about a month and a half after if you got accepted.

Im fairly sure they have as people have gotten the denied states pre int or post 2ndary

Yes they have. Check your status, it might have been changed to waitlist in which case you would just be waiting til movement in May. They dont send email notification of this.

Yes they do give pre-interview and post-secondary rejections. If you are on hold you are probably in the "Review again later" pile.

Yes to the first question and I'm sure the answer to your second question is yes too simply b/c there is so much more to the app than the GPA. But those people that did get an interview with a lower GPA most definitely made it up for it in some other aspect of the application.

LOL My bad. By now you've figured out I'm gunning for a CA school. I just want to know what it takes to make up for a slightly subpar GPA, and if you HAVE to be a URM to be interviewed with these stats. Many schools like UCLA and UCSD are primarily numbers based, which worries me (and thousands others).

youll never know "what it takes." Youve already applied, now there is nothing more you can do but sit and wait.

I was also complete on 8/20 and still pending. I just realized that is like 5 months. Makes me want to listen to The Cure and curl up in a ball and cry in the shower.

nope...ryserr can confirm this but i remmeber a med student telling me basically all on the WL are reviewed until a decision is made. In other words its not "ranked" persay but im sure they have their favorites.

As someone who was on the waitlist last year, I can confirm that it is indeed unranked. 😛

elijah is right, there is no rank. What i was told that they try and replace people who drop acceptances with people from the waitlist who are similar in terms of their application, demographics, etc. I dunnow how true that is.

I don't remember exactly, but IIRC it's something like half of the class.

yes. also dont freak if it takes a month or so for them to add it. It took me about 6 weeks after emailing them, but eventually they do send a confirmation email. They are just very behind in admissions apparently.

thats a good thing so dont worry. Those who are accepted have it blank several days or weeks after others get the waitlist on their interview day. So the longer its blank the better (though being blank can still turn into a waitlist. )

Hey guys,

What kind of communications can we have with the adcom/interviewer post-interview pre-decision? I don't know if I should send in anything, but don't want to run the risk of seeming apathetic or obnoxiously anxious, because I lovedd UCI when I went to interview and would love to attend.

By the way, for those interviewing soon, it was an amazing experience for me! Mad props to the medical students!! 👍 👍 (2 thumbs up! 😉)

I was complete 8/20, still pending review. There seems to be a slough of us that were complete at this time and never got any word back. I think some people have called and were told that there was no mistake and just keep waiting, but half a year seems like a long time to wait.

Same here. I emailed them recently and was told that my application would be reviewed one more time before a final decision is made. So "pending review" probably means "you've been reviewed but we aren't bothering to update your status page." We're probably in the "maybe" pile for now.

That's right. When I called they told me that applications are reviewed by a second screener before deciding to deny an interview. I feel like by this point tho it's pretty much set and many of us in this boat will be sunk on the same day.
