I was also approved for a secondary yesterday and had the same problem. But, it fixed itself a couple hours later and I was able to access the secondary by the afternoon.

I am a CA resident with a 3.9 but no MCAT score yet (taking exam on 08/05). So, they must not be basing secondaries totally on scores.

Now to figure out what to say in 7500 characters that I haven't already said in 5300...

Wow, that's interesting.

I still think UCSD are huge number-mongers. Their accepted #'s look like they belong to UCSF.

^ I checked the website. It does say a "small percentage" will get immediate secondaries and more will be handed out later. I'm assuming small percentage would be less than 50%, but if it's really 200/2000 (10%), I'll take it!

So how did they choose the "small percentage" then? Can everyone post GPA/MCAT just for funsies, even if y'all said a 3.9/37 didn't make it? Just curious. And state of residency too

3.9/34...CA

3.73/35, CA. Still working on that autobiography sketch though... my mailbox is totally cluttered by secondaries waiting to be filled out! :scared:

Hi.
Just wondering...whats the tuition for UCSD? I was looking it up on a website that listed the top medical schools in the country, and their tuition. They listed UCSD and free for in-state. Then other websites have listed it at 12,000/yr or 22,000/yr. Whats the actual tuition for in state and out of state??
Thanks

according to the msar, 23,031 in state 35,276 OOS. also remember that tuition rates are going to be rising over the next few years, its all but guaranteed to due some of the states laws passed and issues and budget cuts. The values in the msar havnt taken into account the recent tuition hikes across the boards at UC schools. For instance, UCI tuition last year was liek 23k like in the msar, its already raised to about 25k+

I have a question about the secondary application...how do we pay the $60 fee? I submitted my essay, then realized that I need to attach some form of identification to my check when I submit it to UCSD. But now that I've submitted it, they won't let me see my secondary anymore! Do I need to attach a specific document to my mailed check or can I just send in a printed copy of my AMCAS number and UCSD application status website?

You mail a check to UCSD.

yea but do I mail it with a form of some sort? How will they know it's from me?

Just write your name and the AMCAS ID on the check. I also attached a white sheet with my name and my AMCAS ID.

Thanks! lol but then where are people getting that its free for in-state. I thought that was a little weird!

just checked my status... they marked me as complete now.

Tuition is "free" for in-staters. The "fees," however, are like $25,000. Non-residents have to pay an additional ~$13,000 for tuition on top of the "fees." It's just a matter of semantics.

anyone's stuff not all done? I'm still missing the letters and payment sections, but I turned all of them in last week.

Just got the secondary! Seriously thank Jesus! I was very worried there for a second.

why haven't they received my check?😡

Not sure if this will help, but this is how mine went:

Secondary Received: 6/30
Sent Check: 7/1
Sent Secondary: 7/4
Secondary Complete: 7/10 (LOR were already sitting in my AMCAS application and I'm pretty sure my check got there before the 10th)

I wouldn't worry too much about them getting your check. UCSD's really efficient.

Cool, payment just received. I'm complete here. Now the wait.

hey in the autobiography should we mention why we want to go to ucsd specifically?

I wouldn't focus too much on it. It's an autobiograpgy, and about your life history in general.

Just got my secondary today. This thing is a beast.

Damn looks like i missed round 2 of secondarys from SD 🙁

just got mine today too! they acknowledged my amcas on 7/6

haha oh i know hes one of the 36+ mcat superhumans. I just still was holding out hope.
🙁 I'm not a superhuman. Elbow grease and luck is all, I swear :scared:

lol i meant it as a compliment dont worry! 🙂. Its awesome that you dominated the mcat so 🙂. UCSD is a super numbers heavy school so i shouldnt be surprised at my result there, so im not too upset. Always false hope though lol

Don't lose hope, man.

Ooooh!! Well that clears everything up! 😀 thanks!

I'm surprised that people say UCSD is super numbers heavy. I guess their avg. stats make it seem that way, but they do accept quite a few people with lower stats as well. I would definitely be one of the avg. stats people that got accepted last year OOS.

Glad to hear that.

I'm having trouble saving my activities section. I get this message:

Warning: Information required for final submission is missing. Required fields include the Begin Date, End Date, and at least one activity line. Each activity line used must be entered in full.

Anyone else had this problem? Everything is complete, including all the things the message mentioned. I'm not quite sure what the bold part is talking about, though.

Was the secondary fee always $70?

I sent mine in ~3 weeks ago for $60 because I thought that's what it said and then submitted my app recently and found out the secondary is $70?

What the heck? 😕

No it's $60. At least that's what told me.

Timeline:
first week of July: get the secondary, fill in everything but the autobio, drop the check for $60 off the next day
today: put in the autobio, run through everything again and the secondary fee page now says to send $70

The SOM website now says $70 for secondary, the secondary page says $70...Did they change on you and me?

...I guess I'll be calling them on Monday. I'd hate to have my app delayed just because I have to send another check and it'd take another 2 weeks for them to process it
