Timeline:
first week of July: get the secondary, fill in everything but the autobio, drop the check for $60 off the next day
today: put in the autobio, run through everything again and the secondary fee page now says to send $70

The SOM website now says $70 for secondary, the secondary page says $70...Did they change on you and me?

...I guess I'll be calling them on Monday. I'd hate to have my app delayed just because I have to send another check and it'd take another 2 weeks for them to process it

I see the $70 on their site. But my secondary status says complete, and I only paid $60. They also said in the email $60.

Maybe it's $60 for the people in the first batch of secondaries 😛

Either way, I'm calling on Monday unless they show I'm complete by then.

I'm thinking maybe their info on their site is a typo?

it's on the secondary app page and the FAQ page for SOM admissions

Anyone who got a secondary recently want to check their email and see how much it is?

I got a secondary on the 14th or July, and mine DEFINITELY says $70.

I got my secondary on 6/30. I got two email correspondences and says "Please submit $60". It definitely says $60.

lol you guys are funny. I don't think this stuff matters for you guys as much as me since the fee amount changed between the time I submitted my check and the time I submitted the app.

I'll just call. Hopefully they'll honor my $60 check so I don't have to go through the trouble of canceling that one and sending a new one.

So weird. How come some of us pay $60 and some has to pay $70?

Why do the UCs suck this year? Davis couldn't enter proper grades, Irvine won't let us log in, UCSD apparently thinks some of you can be bribed, UCLA is like yay let's download letters for everyone--jk.

did you pay 60 or 70?

bribed? huh?

Over $10?

I am willing to give them a lot more than that to get accepted. 😉

Maybe UCSD wanted to up their fees to match everyone else (all the UCs except UCSF have been $70)

At least UCSF isn't full of fail. Then again, sending in checks by mail....that's annoying... Isn't it cheaper (labor-wise) and faster to just do it electronically?

Heck, I would fork over a lot just to get an interview invite.

What did you guys do for the additional activities section. All I would be doing is basically put the same as my amcas. Should I just repeat it all and assume they are not reading my AMCAS?

I wrote the first draft of my essay last night, and it's 7488 characters. I don't even know if it's what UCSD is looking for as an autobiography. Bleh.

Hurray, I called and they said it was $60 for me.

Excellente. I saved $10.43 today! Now I can buy lunch.

2 questions:

1) So how long was this "immediate invite" period for the secondaries? I thought they wouldn't be inviting people for secondaries until nov, but it seems like they've been doing so for the last 2 weeks!

2) in my autobiography I focused a lot on my pre-college life, probably dedicated about 1000 characters to my college life. I feel like I kinda rushed through my college stuff, but mostly because the rest of my app focuses on college and what I've done in college. do you think this is a problem?

1) I have no idea.
2) While I'm obviously not an authority since I'm applying with you, I would focus on the aspects of your life that contributed to your motivations for going to medical school... whether that's pre-college or during college. So focusing on pre-college isn't a problem if that logically leads to your motivations for medicine.

AAAAAH OMG I just got a secondary invite email!!!!!!!!!! :soexcited:

Soooooo excited!!!!!!!!!! I love you UCSD! 🙂 🙂 🙂

My AMCAS was verified 6/24, so when everyone started getting secondaries earlier this month and I still hadn't gotten one, I was pretty much just hoping on a November secondary invite. But...the secondary came today! So I guess there's still hope for those of you who haven't gotten a secondary yet! 🙂 🙂 🙂

Haha, my stats are decent. But everyone should be encouraged by the fact that they are still giving out secondaries! There's still hope! 🙂

I have 3.79, mcat way below 32. i got secondary from UCSD. i did not apply as a disadvantaged student. i am not URM. numbers don't always play the most critical role, i guess. it's your unique life experiences that sometimes matter the most. i hope you'll get your secondary from UCSD if you haven't gotten one yet. good luck!

Just got an email saying I am "On Hold" for possible interview at a later date.

dang, Invite for Interview email would have made my weekend.

I just received the same message... major bummer. I believe we are still evaluated every month to compare to incoming pools, but still strike 1..

I got the same msg too today!! AT least that means we are not rejected. It's kind of a relief because I just bombed my MCAT (a 29!! from a 35 three years ago)...retaking again in Sept. I bet we'll all get interviews! :xf:

For those of you who have been heard back from UCSD, did you apply for PRIME too?

I was straight MD, so I don't remember checking any boxes.

I sent a check to UCSD for $70 today...my email and the info on the secondary application both said to pay $70. I was afraid to send $60, even though that's what some of you guys paid...maybe my $10 bribe will work? 😛

It's really strange that they have been giving out conflicting info on the fees.

Haha me too...I was like, "MD/Masters? Sure...why not" I ended up checking three boxes I think 🙂

are all of these dual programs completed in 4 years?
and does checking them mean we're actually applying to them or simply just interested? in other words, what does checking a box entail?

I think it just means you are interested...

Wow, that's pretty fast. Looks like you mailing from the Bay though, so that might explain why mine isn't there yet.

Also as I was waiting for them to get my money, that Sofia lady sent me an email that said she had my secondary and letters but no money, did you get that?

Not all of the dual programs can be completed in 4 years. PRIME requires an extra year (total of 5 years).

When you check a box, that means you'd like to be included in the additional pool for that program, but you aren't committing to one pathway.

hey. i got the same email yesterday. disappointing but certainly not aweful as it is terribly early in the process. we may just not "stand out" in comparison with the rest of the early secondary recipients.

"On hold" means that you are still in the running! 🙂

For those wondering, there is a delay between the office receiving material and having your status updated. But as long as you turn in the on-line application before your deadline you're okay, they won't penalize you for LOR or payment delays, or status update delays. So no worries, just get that autobio finished.
