I love how UCSD is so transparent though. Do you guys think a post-waitlist (or should I say post-acceptable pool) letter of interest would be worth it? I totally forgot whether or not they discourage it....
 
Does anyone know what the tuition hike will be for UCSD next year? I think it's 26K now, right? Wonder if it will go up 35% like the undergrad programs. 🙁

i hope not...did a quick search on Google and I think UCSF is jumping from around 26-27K/yr to around 30-31K so I'm guessing UCSD should be around the same ballpark but that's just a conjecture...I guess we'll see when they publish the actual numbers. By the way, when is Fafsa due?

my interview at sd isn't for a while, but from my interviews at two other uc's, they said there will be a hike that may be slightly higher than the standard yearly hike, but it won't be anything like the 35% of undergrad since they are separate. i assume this goes for all uc's.

That is true. They told us specifically during the interview that you're either accepted or waitlisted; no rejections. But I do remember them saying that they do have a general idea of who is at the top of the WL pile if you are indeed WLed.

I think that you should add all the schools that you have interviewed at or you know you have a good shot at. The worse case scenario is that they get your information but you do not go there.

At least that is what I remember doing when I was applying to college back when and still didn't know where I was accepted. I included the codes for all the schools i applied to.

anyone know if they are practically done giving out interviews? i'm complete, but not on interview hold yet
 
is UCSD P/F? i couldnt find the grading system on their website.
 
do you think its okay to call brian directly and ask about the status of my app (i havent been invited to interview, still waiting post sec but not on hold)? i think it might be weird since i got his number off this thread.

go for it. the number of interview spaces left is minute. really depressing 🙁
 
Hey everyone I'm new to this forum and really would like some advice. I have an interview here on 1/26 and really want to do well. Could those of you who have interviewed shed some insight on the interview day and give me some advice. I've already been accepted at 1 school out of state and wL at another and I'd really like to stay in Cali. You can PM if you like I just really want some advice. Thanks!!!
 
hi everyone! i've been reading SDN for awhile (particularly this thread) and finally decided to create a profile. i interviewed at UCSD on 11/24 and was accepted on 12/16. i'm sure i'll be posting questions as i think of them, but for now, good luck to those who are interviewing and congratulations to those who are accepted!

I'm sorry your status hasn't changed. 🙁 It blows when you really love a school and you think that you are well qualified for it and they don't see it. I'm in your same boat...I just got a notice yesterday of a hold on my 'potential but more like not likely interview' since they only interview 25% of those who submit secondaries.
Anyways, would you be able to shed some light on who and to what address you sent your update letter to? I started working on mine as soon as I got the notice and I want to send it by tomorrow via mail so it gets there on monday or tuesday (i'm an sd native).

did you address it to dean kelly? or to the admissions committee? Thanks! and good luck with your other interviews! don't give up hope!

email it as an attachment to their generic email address listed on the website and they'll add it to your file.

I don't know if this has been covered but have they given pre-interview/ post-secondary rejections? I have been on hold for months and just wondering.

I think those dont come out till march? Regardless if you havnt gotten an interview by now your chances are all but done now. UCSD does do silent rejections too where you just never hear back. If you look at this page or a few back someone posted something from admissions saying as much. Not to mention they are already at like april interviews which is about the end of their season.
 
Are people still getting interviews??

Damn got acceptance pool today...does anyone know how to find out what tier you are in in that pool? Is there anything you can do to rise in the tiers?

Brian made it sound like even he doesn't know the ordering of the pool and that it's pretty tough to move around regardless of updates, LOIs etc. (sorry)
 
Is UCSD like the only school that doesn't require a deposit to hold the spot after acceptance? Seems like every other school requires $100+.
 
good luck guys! We'd love to see you here next year! I'm kind of jealous of the fact the admin is revamping the curriculum for you. Oh, and that new med ed builing currently being built is going to be awesome!

I know this might be an odd question since everyone is interviewing, but I haven't heard from UCSD at all. I'm still waiting to get a secondary and its January. I am currently enrolled in the SMP program at Georgetown University. So does anyone know what's taking UCSD so long to contact applicants that have not received a secondary yet?

Hard to say at this point. I contacted the office and even though they are filling up their interview slots up to April 🙂(), they are STILL waiting for more secondaries to be sent back. I sent my 2ndary back in Nov and think that I'm just another casualty of the process since I didnt get an invite.

If I were you I would call the admissions office and ask where you are at the moment.
 
They said they will extend invitations into February or something. I'm still waiting for an interview, and I sent a LOI in couple months ago but still no news or anything.

do you know if anyone has been rejected pre-secondary? im in the same boat as you, havent heard a thing at all from them. i dont know if they do silent rejections, or we're in the maybe pile? but id assume its getting late since they only hand out intvitations till early feb...
 
Question for you guys:

UCSD does have a second look weekend right? Have any of you heard anything about it, in terms of when it's happening/how it works/etc? I actually suddenly remembered this and rummaged through my stuff, but couldn't find any info on it. Guess I either lost it or it wasn't there in the first place?

i was wondering about it as well. i know from last year's thread that there was a second look weekend, but i looked through all of my materials and couldn't find anything either. i was thinking about contacting admissions to ask!

i went ahead and emailed admissions. the second look weekend will be april 23 and 24. more detailed info will be sent out in the next couple of weeks!

I have a 36T and 3.63 GPA. I'm interviewing on February 4th and have reviewed the interview process extensively.

The funny thing is, I applied to about 25 schools this year and only obtained interviews at two (NYMC and UCSD).

I think it's because I don't have any LoR from any professors under which I took classes.
