Glad to see you checking up on us REL. I can't wait till UCF starts sedning out interview invites!
I haven't heard of anything.Hm...interview invites not started yet?
Why so much? The actual essay asks for one to two pages, but not more. It does ask for a short description of any course work below a B grade; ditto for any hurdles that you have overcome. Most of the rest is simply extra space to tell about volunteerism, research, etc that you did not include in AMCAS --- and they really mean that you can leave these areas empty unless there is something significant add. They dont want you to enter just for the sake of using space ---
I haven't heard of anything.
To have a chance to build a new school is a once in a life time opportunity. I can't wait to hear back from this place 😀Our initial interview will be the last Friday in September. We have begun looking as some of the completed files and will begin to make some invites in very early September to begin the process this year. I suspect that we will interview ~ 325 this year for the 60 seats; we interviewed 233 for the 40 seats last year. Preliminary data suggests that we probably have admitted the highest MCAT/GPA class for this year in Florida with a fantastically diversified group of pioneers; 15 different languages, about 18% under-rep, slight majority female, 75% Florida resident, leadership, research, etc. We should be starting a drive to obtain tuition scholarships for the second group that starts in August 2010. If all goes well we hope to have $30k per year tuition scholarship for each member......only time will tell the final outcome. Who actually thought we would have the $160k for each of the 40 charter members? Throw together the new curriculum, animation technology, 17 larger clinical training partners in Orlando, new med ed building in the Lake Nona medical & research complex supported by the community, and it's a total dream scenario.....and we're just getting started.....
Has anyone been having any technical difficulties with the UCF website? I'm trying to do the secondary online and it seems like almost none of the features are working for me. I get an error message for almost everything. btw I tried it on both IE 7 and firefox.
I have had 3 reports of difficulty with our supplemental today (Sunday). I know that main campus took one of our servers from 8am-6pm today --- I wasnt aware that it would affect the supplemental application but maybe it has.......if you are having difficulty today, please retry after 6pm. If still having a problem, send an email to [email protected].
REL, will the dashboard tell us whether we are competitive for an interview? I was complete right around July 31st or so and in the e-mail I was sent, it was indicated that our status would be updated once a review by (AORTA?) was done. However you also mentioned that the system was not entirely up and running yet...what is the status on it?
The school requires two character letters. Unfortunately, I did not know that this was a requirement and am now short these letters. How important are the letters of recommendation requirements? Any leeway? Should I not submit the secondary on account of this?
Your application will not be completed without meeting the letter requirements. How difficult would it be to have a peer or supervisor, clergy, club member, workmate, write a letter on your behalf and upload it to AMCAS? I guess it depends on where UCF is on your list of program prioritization. I suspect another healthy dose of scholarship money MAY become available before this year is complete.....shooting for 4 year tuition scholarships for all 60....let's see if we can hit that target? It's a super community so it is possible....at least some will happen....all 60? Let's see.
Tempting. Will you be holding interviews on UCF's main campus, in Research Pkwy, or on the Lake Nona Medical Campus?
LNMC isn't done yet. I'm going to guess it's going to be near the main campus.
Yeah I know it's not done, but I was wondering if they would be holding any interview dates there (like in March). All the buildings are constructed for the most part and look great from the outside, so I'm sure it's only a matter of time before they start utilizing them a bit (although I know the MS-1s are entirely on the main campus for the first year)
Who knows in March... I think a lot of work is still being done inside. They'll probably have a move-in week or something... should be interesting. I don't care if the interviews are done in the dumpsters outside of the Union 🙂 as long as I get one!
Excellent!!! Dumpsters it is...that way we dont have to strain the budget and order food!!!! Ingenious idea!!! That's the kinda pioneering spirit we're looking for!
Ok, well interviews for the entire year will be at the current COM location on research parkway. Interview days will include a bus tour to Celebration Hospital (lunch and hospital tour) and then probably a quick stop at Lk Nona en route. Move in to Lake Nona Med Ed building will be just after the interviews conclude.
Celebration is the one by Disney right? That's a cool hospital. A surgeon we work with is one of the head CT guys at the Florida Hospital in Orlando and I thought it was amazing. It's starting to sound like there's a lot of great places to get clinical experiences in Orlando. I can't wait to check out all of the new ones UCF is building in it's "medical city"!Hah I work at Celebration hospital now in the ED and the hospital is awesome... honestly, how many hospitals can you think of with a complete GYM and a vegetarian cafeteria inside? Is this the hospital where the UCF med students will be doing clinical rotations?
how long does it take to be complete here? i submitted a week and a half ago and still nothing about being complete. should i wait some more or give them a call

Anyone heard yet?
Thanks Rel
Meeting went well. They are in the process of publishing a new version and will review each segment tomorrow and hopefully have it up before close of business tomorrow......it'll have codes for every applicant at your dashboard....things like Hold for Information (began but not completed supplemental app), File complete ready for review, file complete awaiting projected MCAT, file reviewed - eligible for interview selection (this one is where most will be for awhile -- it means your file has been reviewed and is in a pool which may be invited for an interview -- it'll be a large group, not all will be invited), scheduled for interview, not competitive for interview, etc.
I appreciate your patience and understanding.....

A quick question, REL, will UCF be heavily focused on leadership experience like it was last year?
REL, I'm curious about the 45 MCAT upper range you posted. Was this a super-scored 45 or a straight 15 15 15 in one single-sitting? I was under the impression that often times even a perfect MCAT doesn't score to a 45 due to some bizarre curving.
We only look at a single test instance, so the score was a 15-15-15 on a single exam.......
Wow. I had heard talk of this on the MCAT dicussion forum, but a lot of people were just saying that UCF had mixed and matched from two separate exams to create the 45. That's really great, though.
Yeah, there are lots of "SDN" experts out there......we thought that we could overlook the letter score of "O" since that applicant did manage the trip 15's...
On another note --- my IT group was unable to make final delivery on the status identifiers --- they have guaranteed me a Monday delivery.....gosh I hate it when you have to depend upon others to get it done.....at least I do know that they are delivering a solid system to waiting is the right answer. This is killin' me!!!
I'm pretty sure he was being sarcastic
Yep, it was a joke......sorry, didnt mean to cause panic....;>)
has anyone had their dashboard updated yet?
What's ironic is, his original user name was gonig to be "knights rule", in honor or UCF. As you can see, he begin the word "knight" with an "n" and it was just downhill from there... 😀😀 My secondary essay was better than my MCAT letter score!! I'm not illiterate I swear!
