So, I don't think that many acceptances are going out at the end of March. I suspect a handful are, but not 115. But, the waitlist has movement, so all hope is not lost.

At the Alternate 2 meeting last year, which was in April, Dr. Wagoner said 270 acceptances were initially sent out. Meaning, they had all been sent out by the end of March. This year she told us essentially the same number, i.e. 268, will be sent out by the end of March. 155 of those spots have already been offered. The initial offer is high because many of the students offered acceptance will ultimately go somewhere else, especially non-residents. Come August, more than 268 offers of acceptance will ultimately have been sent out as students are accepted from the alternate list.

Regardless of what the exact numbers are, it's out of our hands at this point. The fact is there are many spots still available, including the alternate list.
 
Have they sent out any rejections yet? Does anyone know?
 
Actually they have sent out rejections to people who didn't get invited for an interview. My friend got rejected on 2/12. I think it goes right along side with the last interview offers.
 
So anyone hear anything on paying the deposit? They told me they supposedly would have this online payment system up by March 1st...

Here's the text of an email I got on Feb. 2nd:

Dear Accepted Student to the University of Colorado, School of Medicine:

A number of you have contacted us regarding information from your letter of offer to the CU School of Medicine, Class of 2014, where we told you that your $200 deposit would be due by February 1, 2010, and that we would send you instructions on how to submit the payment. The reason we devised this procedure is because the University of Colorado has been working on the implementation of a new Student Information System. The new payment module is part of that system. Unfortunately, the release has taken longer than originally expected, and while it should be ready soon, it is not currently in place. We ask that you bear with us for a short time longer until we are able to give you access to the new system where you will be able to make your deposit online. We will send you an email when the module is up and available to accept your deposit, along with instructions and any passwords that might be needed.

Thanks for your patience. We hope this finds you well and we look forward to seeing you at the Open House on April 23rd! We will send you information about the day long program as the time approaches. In the meantime, if you have any questions that we might assist you with, please don’t hesitate to contact us.

I got an email today and this was a part of it.....

2) The long-awaited message regarding payment of your $200 deposit should be forthcoming soon. The Student Information System development has been delayed, last Friday we delivered all of the accepted student information to our downtown campus for hand-entry. Once we receive notification from them that everything has been entered, we will send you an email (hopefully next week) with directions and password to get you to the proper site for payment. With completion of information in the system, the Financial Aid Office will begin its packaging over the next month.
 
Got accepted today via email a little after 2pm. Interviewed 2/12. Fourth year of applying and finally did it!!! Good luck to everyone else and don't give up

Congrats!! I've been rooting for you for quire awhile. I was reading the thread from a couple of years ago...somebody mentioned 4 years of apps and you said something like "you didn't know if you could do that." 😉

Way to be go 👍

On a side note: CU must love persistance....there seems to be tons of reapplicants this year X2 and 3 cycles.

My husband works in Fort Collins so we are probably going to buy a house north of Denver (like the Frederick, Firestone area) and that way we will both just commute.

But I have heard that a lot of people really like the Stapleton area - it's not too far away and I guess there are some really nice neighborhoods over there. I've also talked to a couple of people that live in those apartments right behind the campus and I guess those are REALLY nice but kind of pricey. Supposedly it's not to bad if you have a roomate and get a two-bedroom though. So those might be some places to look into. 🙂

Another note, are you guys that have been accepted all on the facebook group? I am really surprised there are only 13 people on the group? It was set up by the President of the class of 2013 to welcome us all. It also might be a good way to start the roommate hunt! 🙂

The whole greater uptown area is also a great place to live. Tons of options, easy trip down colfax to campus, and lots of nice rest./bars/parks close by and not far to lodo.
 
Congrats Bloc! Thanks momanddoc and peds doc! I'll look into some of those. I actually just found a little for rent book with a "special" insert of the fitzsimons campus area in town today so I'm going to be looking at all the apartments around there...I will let you all know if I find anything good! Anybody thought of buying? Someone said it might actually be cheaper in th end? I'm actually pretty hesitant though....seems like a big deal. I guess my wife would be working though? But she doesn't have a job yet so we're not really sure....any advice would be helpful!
 
Now that I am finally accepted, I am looking at buy a house with the help of my parents. And then renting it out to some other students. I am born and raised just south of the campus in denver so I think I have a good feel for the neighborhoods. We did the same kind of set up at my undergrad and turn a good profit after selling it and having my roommates pay most of the mortage.

I would look into jobs for your wife first. From what I have seen and heard from current students, housing is pretty flexible. On campus housing is not meant for students as it is quite expensive compared to off campus housing. In nearby neighborhoods you can easily buy a house in the 100-125k. My tour was led by a female MS1 who swore by Stapleton, but she also said there were quite a bit of people who commuted from closer to downtown. This could also be nice during MS3 and MS4, since not all rotations are necessarily at the Anschutz campus, Rose, National Jewish, Denver General, etc... are all awesome hospitals. I'm still working on plans on whether the girlfriend will be coming with me (I really really hope that she decides to come with me), so plans are still up in the air. I personally would buy a fixer upper near campus, since my family is all into different construction trades, but I'm currently a grad student without sufficient income to qualify for myself and no one to co-sign with me. Renting seems to be my only option, otherwise I would totally buy.
 
i think the oos tuition is a major deterrence : /

Hi all! Just wondering if there are any other HPSP people out there? I found out a couple of weeks ago that I have been selected for Army HPSP and am really excited but am now wondering if there are any others on the thread that are in the same boat.
 
Looking at the past few years, it appears as though the last round of acceptances goes out on the 2nd Friday of March, with the waitlist roster coming out on the 31st....

Any word on whether this is going to happen again this year? If so, the 12th is the big day, right?!
 
Anyone know when those who applied to the Rural Scholars Track or Global Health Track will hear about acceptance into those programs?

I received my middle thirds notification on March 31, and if my memory serves me, most people I know received there notification in that time frame as well. I wouldn't bet on getting notice on Friday, especially because this whole year has been a little later than normal because of a couple complicating factor ie Sean Spellman leaving, new pay system, trying to update web address etc..

I don't know that rural track is offered any differently than normal acceptances. I know there are separate lists for IS and OOS, but I have never heard anything about differences according to track.
 
Well obviously only the office knows exactly when stuff is going out, but the first person reporting on 08-09 thread was March 27. Notices were reported over the next four days, which is in keeping with my Alt2 notice on the 31 and several others who I know personally that also received notice in the same time period. Keep in mind though that this is just one year although the year previous I received my rejection from CU on April 1st. At this point it's just conjecture, but hopefully helpful to those still waiting. Best of luck!

It looks like on 3/16/09 acceptances went out for interviews much earlier in the season...but you are also correct in that WL spots and rejections went out later.

Not me, but a buddy of mine who interviewed on March 1st got his

Two years ago, they sent out rejections and waitlists on March 14th (the 15th was on a Saturday). At least, that's when I got my rejection. That, of course, was when Sean Spellman still worked there, and Dr. Sondheimer was still Dean (though he stepped down right before those last notifications went out) and everything seemed to run much more smoothly.

I'm not getting my hopes up, but it'd be nice to hear from them soon. I'm getting sick of this waiting, especially since I feel like I'm in limbo as to whether or not I should start making plans to attend another school.

I know there are two separate wait lists (OOS and IS), but does anyone know for IS how long the wait list is (1, 2 and 3)? Also, how many out of those interviewed are rejected outright as opposed to waitlisted?
 
Well CU has been very hush hush about numbers on each waitlist. I have never heard anything concrete about it. At my interview day they said that only every one on the IS Alt1 list got in plus one off of the Alt2. Not everyone on the OOS Alt1 list got in, again from interview day info. They offer to fill the class and then some by magic day in march when waitlists go out. So lets suppose they sent out a total of 280 acceptances. Initially they probably sent out ~180-190 straight out acceptances. That leaves 90-100 acceptances that went out to waitlisters. Since the dynamic is like 80-20 IS-OOS, it would probably be a safe bet to say the rest went out in similar proportions. The only thing that might change that is the fact that OOS are more likely to reject an offer from CU due to the not so friendly OOS tuition. With that in mind they would have a higher turnover of OOS acceptances. So instead of 80-20 it more like 70-30 acceptances IS to OOS. So with all of this guessing and conjecture I would imagine that the Alt1 IS list is somewhere around 65-75 people.
 
So if they accept 145 IS right off the bat and the Alt1, 2 and 3 lists are of equal proportion then the IS waitlist is approximately 195-225 people, which seems to make up the rest of those interviewed IS. Although unless you are Alt1 or at the top of Alt2, being on the waitlist is likely just a delayed rejection. I do wonder how many actual IS rejections they send out post-interview. From my understanding the pre-interview IS rejections went out in February.

Now I am not familiar with their admissions policy but I assume that if they offer you an interview they have already considered you a qualified candidate based on your application file and the interview is meant to further distinguish between already qualified candidates. How much does the interview mean, in terms of weight for you complete application?
 
From what I understand interview is the largest portion of the overall score, accounting for ~75% of the overall score

Hi, to answer some of the timing questions on when responses will be given out. I interviewed yesterday (March 9) at CU and received my acceptance later that afternoon. Dr. Wagoner informed me that all final answers this year will be available on the 30th of March but some will receive notice before that date. Good luck and yay CU 14!

First of all, I do realize I am really lucky, so much that I didn't even believe the email when I first received it, since I, too was prepared to wait. For those of you waiting, I feel for you, because I waited for the interview to the point of giving up.

As far as my interview goes, I guess I have a special case because I am currently living in Paraguay in my last two months of Peace Corps service. I expressed to the admissions committee that it would be very difficult to make it to the interview but that CO was my top choice and surprisingly they offered me a phone interview. Dr. Wagoner and Dr. Bernstein interviewed me at the same time on speaker phone.

Good luck to everyone! Excited to meet you in Aug.

No wonder you got accepted the same day you interviewed! Many CONGRATS!!!! Hopefully the rest of us will be as lucky in the next few days! 🙂

Okay, I haven't followed this thread very closely, so I may have missed the answer to my question.

Has anyone figured out what to do about the $200 deposit? I still haven't received notification about it, but my email has been kinda flaky lately so I'm not sure if I trust it.

I'm pretty sure all the rejections in February were pre-interview. So, I wouldn't count on at least being waitlisted. Historically, they let you know of rejections around that magical date when they let everyone know.

The three people I know who got the February rejection were all pre-interview ones.
