Thanks for the info! Good to know!

Also, does anyone know where I can find the latest Residency Match List? I'm so curious to see where people from this school got in!🙂

I think we all did really well, they apparently haven't posted the match list online yet; I only have the .pdf that they sent to my class

So I just got accepted to the Global Health Track. They say that I have to make a decision by April 5. That is a week away!!! Does that mean I can say yes to the program but then withdraw from Colorado? I can't make a decision until financial aid comes out, because CU is absolutely out of my price range if I don't get WICHE funding. I will accept the global health track if I go there, but I can't make a decision until I find out if I can afford it.

Comoroa, yes you can accept and then withdraw from the university or just withdraw from the global health track don't let this stress you out or pressure you.

Top 1/3 IS, does anyone know if they're gonna tell us as they get notification of the open spots or if they'll just send out several e mails like on every friday til school starts or what?

They email acceptances as they open. You will not get a regular update from my experience with CU thus far. You could check last years thread for Alt1'ers who got accepted and pm them.

I just wanted to let you guys know that if you got the little yellow postcard saying you can set up your email and check your financial aid status, you can't actually check it until Monday or Tuesday! I tried and I called them today and that's what they said because the emails aren't actually set up.

Anyone heard anything about financial aid yet? I thought I remembered an email saying that results would be out last week or something! Maybe I read it wrong...I got my email set up but there wasn't anything 😕

If UCD has received your FAFSA they should have sent you a yellow postcard via snail mail. On that postcard you will instructions for setting up your UCD email account and how to check your financial aid status.

Ms. Ehlers stated in her latest email that they hoped to have financial aid results available by the April 23rd.

As of right now - I have been able to setup my email account (Microsoft, ugh) but have yet to receive any financial aid documents.

Same here, I have my email account and I have logged on to the UCD Access portal, but no financial aid info yet. I think I remember an email somewhere saying financial aid packages wouldn't come out until the scholarship decisions had been made, so I figured it might be a couple more weeks...

Ok cool I did the same! Also I checked that UCD portal and it looks like maybe they will have some info there soon!

So is anyone able to see their Financial Aid To Do List? I can get onto the student portal, but the to do list isn't a link for me...

As far as I know there isn't anyone who has seen financial aid info yet...

On a similar note, I got an email talking about enrolling for classes and I know that is an area on the portal. Does anyone know if we are actually supposed to enroll for classes or since our schedule is set by the SOM do we just automatically get enrolled in the Human Body and Molecules to Medicine blocks for this fall?

I am wondering the same thing actually...Although if I had to guess I would say that they auto enroll us!

Do a lot of people usually enroll in those elective classes??

I can't think of anyone offhand who didn't take at least one elective.

Ok cool thanks! They look pretty fun! Do you have to pay extra for the classes? Because tuition is annual isn't it?

You don't have to pay extra to take electives.

Should I be worried if I did not receive that yellow postcard yet?

I contacted them, and said financial aid stuff should fly out sometime next week...

I got an email today with an estimate of financial aid which basically just had an estimated cost of attendance and pretty much said I would end up taking out student loans. I don't know if this is the financial aid info some of you were waiting on, but if so you might check your inbox to see if you got something similar.

Also, it came to the email I had registered with AMCAS, not to my UCD email just in case anyone was wondering which email to check.

Yeah I got the same email today. It also said these figures aren't the final ones which should be out around June 1st, after we have to hold one acceptance... Not super helpful other than to let us know that tuition went up a few thousand from what they said at interview day (Of course with the state of CO higher ed. funding this is to be expected and probably will keep happening...).

I am scared to death of having to payback close to over 200K after graduating from med school.

I never had to take out any loans for my education, and first loan will exceed an amount that I can't imagine.

Does anyone know what the dress code for the Open House on Apr. 23 is? I know it can't be formal since they're having a barbecue at the end of the day!

I actually emailed Mrs. Ehlers to ask her and she said that it was just casual!

I couldn't make the second look day this past Friday. For those of you who went, what did you think? Also, did they say anything about financial aid awards? Are we getting it before May 15??? If not, I'm probably going to have to accept somewhere where I know what I am getting myself into financially.

I went and I really liked it! The school is amazing and all the people seemed pretty friendly! As for the financial aid, they said it probably wouldn't be out til around June 1st I believe...

There was an email sent out that was an estimate of financial aid. Did you get that? I believe DeeDee (the financial aid rep) said that those numbers should be pretty accurate but they are just not final at this point. The tuition bill did go up from last year but I am pretty sure that seems to always be the case regardless of where you go to school (especially at public schools in this economy). Good luck with your decision - I know that if you are OOS then it would be tough to come to CU because of the tuition bill. I will say that they told us that even though the state of Colorado voted for a 9% tuition increase that Dean Krugman made the decision to only raise the tuition 6.5% so I know they are really trying to keep it as affordable as possible.

If you didn't get that email with estimated financial aid, I would definitely call DeeDee in the Financial Aid office and find out what's up with that!

Did you happen to go to second look day? Dr. Winn gave this amazing talk about passion in medicine in it he mentioned some things about money and why it's good to worry but not to worry too much.

I am in the opposite boat that you are - I had to take out student loans throughout undergrad and also for grad school. I know how terrifying it can be but just keep in mind that in the end, your passion for medicine and for treating your patients will be reward enough and that even when you are making monster student loan payments you will still be making 2-10X the median income in the country. Also since most of your loans will probably be federal, your payments will be limited to 10% of your income so you will be fine! 🙂

It's actually a lot less than 10% of your income. The income-sensitive repayment plans for federal stafford loans calculate your bill based on adjusted gross income and family size. The annual repayment amount is 10 percent of the difference between the borrowers AGI and 150% of the state poverty line, adjusted for family size.

I'm graduating CU-SOM next month, am unmarried and will start repaying loans in December at $200/month (out of a $4000/month resident salary)....so it's really no biggie (but still enough to prevent interest from capitalizing).

Yes, Dr. Winn's talk was inspirational. The talk took me back to the basic in a way. I guess taking out a $200,000 isn't too bad , but it is still little overwhelming to think about that big sum of money.

Sorry if this question has already been answered, but does anyone know how difficult it is to find apartment/housing in the area? How far in advance should I start looking? I'm currently living in CA, so I only want to make one airplane trip before starting classes!

So... May 15th has come and gone, and I'm curious if there are any other Alt Listers out there impatiently biding their time, and what, if anything, they might know.

As for myself, I have been on the Alt 2 list since 3/26... was subsequently scheduled for an "alternate list counseling session" on the afternoon of June 23rd... and most recently received the following email yesterday from the admissions office, to which I replied affirmatively:

"Dear University of Colorado School of Medicine Alternate List Candidates:
Now that May 15th has passed and we are looking to make offers to those on our Alternate list, we are again writing to determine whether or not you wish to remain on our list because of your strong interest in attending here.

Most schools at this time of the year want to fill their classes, and if you are already holding a medical school offer where you intend to matriculate, taking yourself off our list would be helpful to other candidates who would like Colorado as their medical school of choice.

We appreciate your willingness to work with us in helping create the most viable list. We would very much like for you to attend Colorado, so if we remain a possibility for you, we will gladly keep you on the list and should an opening arise and it is your turn to be contacted, we will do so immediately. To remain on the Alternate list you must reply to this email by Tuesday, May 25th. If we have not heard from you by that date we will assume you no longer wish to remain on the Alternate list and close your file."

And with that in mind, I'm guessing they might start shuffling through the waitlist on or around May 26th (next Wednesday)?

I dont think it is hard but I do think it takes some time. I would say over 1/3 of the people at second look day already had a place lined up or were looking then. So if I were you I would start looking now as it seems many places will let you sign now for a lease starting in august.

A lot of students have rooms to fill in houses the rent or own (including myself) so visit the facebook group page if that interests you.

Got in today off of the alt 2 list. Super excited!

Can someone refresh my memory as to how much OOS tuition is?

accepted from weightlist 2 😱

A heap of congratulations to both you & mbdenver! I am honestly surprised at how early these Alt 2 offers have gone out compared to the anecdotes I recall reading on last year's thread.

Perhaps some faint glimmer of hope looms on the horizon for those of us still parked in Alt 2 limbo...

How long did it take everyone to get their portal login information after they sent in their deposit? Thanks!

It's hard to say because I think they sent all of the portal info out at the same time so some people had to wait longer than others. If you haven't gotten it in a couple of weeks, I would call them to make sure it is set up.

Good luck.

Just got accepted from the 2nd waitlist!!! Only acceptance this year but definitely my first choice.

Congrats, SAILBOAT!

Just wondering whether you were you considered an IS or OOS applicant?

Just got accepted from the 2nd waitlist!!! Only acceptance this year but definitely my first choice.

That is awesome....must be feeling amazing!!! see you August 9th!!!
