I figure UConn is done with interviews or very close to being done. Did they send out a batch of rejections to pre-interview holds that I missed? If so, were these through email or snail mail?

+1.

Although, I emailed sanford and asked if interviews were done - The response was " copied to file." That is probably not a good sign this late, but there have been miracle matriculants at UCONN.

Really?? I can't possibly imagine that there is an absolute deadline. What if a student were accepted off the wait list post April 16th? That might hold true for current students, but probably not so much incoming students.

There is also no way that a student who paid their $100 on paypal would be unaccepted because that money holds your spot until you absolutely decide to go there. As long as you aren't holding other spots after May 15th you can hold it all summer long potentially. So I say relax, it's all fine, you will still be going to Uconn in August and will not be denied financial aid. No one could possibly afford to go without financial aid. The worst I could imagine is that you would need to take more loans because the grant/scholarship funding will have run out.

Stopping by to absolutely clear these issues up might save your sanity though.

Here is what the email from financial aid says:

"Carefully read the Checklist which outlines, in detail, the steps you must follow to successfully complete the financial aid process by the April 16, 2010 deadline. Failure to complete the process by the deadline may result in a reduction in University aid. As indicated on the Checklist, you are required to complete the FAFSA on-line."

All material to fill out is under the current students section of their website. So it appears that if you don't hand in the material before April 16th you still qualify, but you probably will not get as many benefits as someone who filled out the forms before.

Good luck with everything.

I actually called the finaid office a few weeks back because I was concerned that my parents returns would not be back in time...they told me that it wouldnt be a problem and that the "deadline is there because there has to be one"...if it's a few days late, they said it would not change anything and not to worry about it. Give them a call--they are very helpful and understanding.

Here is the finaid office # I got from Ms. Fox:

8606793873

(It's a different # from the one on the website...but they answered this number).

Does anyone know when financial aid packages come out? At second look weekend, I seem to remember being told that it would be soon after the 16th, but I'm not sure. Do you think we can expect mostly/all loans? Are there any grants included in there somewhere?

Right now I am waitlisted (Lower Alternate 🙁)
I am going to retake my MCAT on 5/1.
Is it helpful for me to give UConn my new (and better) MCAT result in order to move my position up?
Like from lower to at least middle alternate, or just a higher part of the lower alternate?

darkshadow: This is what I would do if I were in your situation. Also, re-read the alternate letter they sent you to realistically know what your chances are.

#1: If you have an acceptance to another medical school, TAKE IT! To my knowledge, UConn doesn't usually go into the lower alternate group, but I completely believe that anything is possible. If you do not have another acceptance, please see #2.

#2: I do not suggest that you take the May 1 MCAT unless you absolutely feel prepared for it and know that your score will increase. If you are rushing to get your scores in by June so you can have something to update them with, and you're not really prepared to take the exam, I think taking it is a bad idea. If you decrease your score it will look worse than if you just wait until you are prepared, and use your increased MCAT score for 2011 matriculation. If you have been studying and practicing, then go for it! I think an update of a significant increase of MCAT score is a great idea. If not, please see #3.

#3: The fact that you are on the alternate list means that they like you and probably would have accepted you if they had the space. It is not a failure on your part. However, if you want something to update them with, I would first look to whatever weaknesses you have in your application. For example, if you didn't have much community service, go volunteer somewhere. This is a better option because it will be something you can immediately update them with and show them that you are still trying to get in. If you have minimal clinical experience, get more. Increase your hours if you can. Just something immediate to show them that you really really want to go.

This was a long response. I hope it helped. Feel free to skim and good luck! 🙂

anyone still waiting to hear back post-interview? i havent heard anything since my interview in mid-march... the wait is killing me =/

[FONT='PrimaSans BT,Verdana,sans-serif']Just withdrew my acceptance, I really hope one you gets it! It seems like such a relaxed and happy place, not to mention very affordable in terms of medical schools. Was tough letting go!

w00t one spot closer to an acceptance! Can't wait till after May 15th to see how far in this high waitlist they get this year. Does anyone know how far down the high waitlist they got last year? I recall them not being able to make it into the middle last year (I was on the middle, that's why I remember)

I would also like to know, as i am on the high wait list as well. I am not sure if i should count this as pretty much an acceptance or a 50/50....

Last year they ended up offering acceptances to all high waitlisters except for 2. And I know this because I heard it from someone on the adcom.

As for the fin aid package, I dropped mine off at the office and the lady said that they are late this year due to the new student loan bill.

Do you know how big the high waitlist is? (so were those 2 among 15 or 2 among 30 off of the high waitlist?)

To my knowledge, there are about 20-30 per group.

To my knowledge they USUALLY always go through the high tier wait list and part of the middle tier list. If you are on the middle/lower tier list I'd plan for next year in case things do not work out. If you are on the high tier list there is a high probability you'll get off the list. However, the number of applicants have been at record highs for the last few years so its probable to be on the high tier WL and still not make it off.

Also, from my understanding they do not change the WL rankings once they are set. AKA if you are middle tiered there is little you can do to be put in the high tier list. Maybe there is an example (or two) where a Low WL person got in due to constant contact, but I have never heard of any cases.

Yeah, but can you change your position within the group? For example, could the person at the bottom of the high waitlist move to the top of the tier? 😕

Let me explain what I know to give a bit more credibility. Last year I was put on the middle tier WL at UConn. Like a lot of people here I was really upset about it and did whatever I could to try to move my position up. I sent update letters, letters of intent but when I called to see if there was any way I could move up on the WL, the person I spoke to said that it was static, even within the middle tier list. It was later confirmed by my adviser that I had a specific position on the WL and that there was nothing I could do but hope a lot of people dropped out.

Good news is I am not part of the new incoming class, so if you do not get in next year there is always next year. To be completely honest I was very upset and felt like pretty much like a failure when I did not get accepted the first time through. However, I pulled myself together, applied super early (June) and got accepted to numerous places this time around. If you found that you did not get a lot of interviews/were wait listed everywhere make sure you do whatever you can to improve your application and apply really early. Trust me, it makes the difference.

Best of luck and just realize it is really hard to get in, but so worth it when it finally happens.

Then why would they ask for update letters?

Rejected 4/25. I applied really late because of circumstances, and will reapply in June. Definitely not giving up. Good luck to those still teetering on the edge.

Talked to the financial aid office yesterday. They said they "might" have the awards ready by May 15th, but that it was not a definite. So what are we supposed to do if they are not out by May 15th? 👎thumbdown😡

Don't think they will have it by May 15th.

hmm. I actually called yesterday and was told that they will start going out next week and will all be out before the may 15th deadline.

I hope so, I was told by the front desk lady that they will have it in a few weeks so lets hope they will have it before May 15th, that would be nice.

Does anyone know if there is an orientation and when do classes start?

Anyone have any info on housing? Should we be looking now?

I think classes start on 8/23 and orientation is a few days before that. I guess its never too early to start looking for housing, but I'm probably gonna wait until June-ish (after school, and hoping for a friend to get off the WL). Not sure, but I think the school has a list of nearby housing areas, but the most popular for M1/M2s is the forest, which seemed pretty nice when I was at second look.

In other news, I'd love to get my financial aid info. I'm hoping the camp thats saying pre-May 15th is right because I'm getting impatient. I've withdrawn the rest of my acceptances, but if the financial aid comes out after the 15th, it kinda screws the people with multiple acceptances who are trying to decide.

anyone who interviewed in march still waiting to hear back? the wait is so brutal.

Just spoke with admissions on monday, they are backed up and hope to have answers by the 20th...............

thanks for the update! im surprised u were able to speak to them cuz they seem to NEVER answer their phones, nor return calls.

1) Is it the usual thing not to get the aid package before the 15th?

2) Has anyone looked into housing yet?

Talked to Financial Aid again...they said they have the aid packages and are going to have them e-mailed to us by the end of the day today. Let's keep our fingers crossed! :xf:

I have no idea about financial aid, but I've already found housing in an apartment complex on Farmington ave on the border of Hartford and West Hartford. I suggest poking around on Craig's list for places. I'd guess that most of us will end up moving to the condos across the street from the health center though...

hmmm, no luck today it seems. maybe they're snail mailing the packages, not emailing them. UConn does seem to prefer the paper route for a lot of things.

This is frustrating. They did say they would e-mail them in addition to snail mailing. I don't know what's going on with this. Hopefully they're out by Friday I guess.

grrrrrrrrrrrrr still waiting

umm I still don't have my FA package yet. Are they sending them out in waves or what? Anyone else still waiting?

For those who applied last year, do you remember when waitlist movement began?

For those who interviewed in mid and late March, have you guys heard back from UConn yet?

Also, what are the chances of getting in if you were interviewed in March? (Are there any spots left?)

Thanks and best of luck to everybody!

im still waiting as well, and i think plstchr is waiting too. i believe that if they wanted to accept any of us from mid march, they would have done so by now; the trend seems to be a 2-week response time for those being accepted and 6-8+weeks response time for those who are rejected/waitlisted. so i imagine we are all going to be waitlisted or rejected, but we'll have to wait a few more days to find out.
:luck:😡:scared::laugh::meanie:😳

I just withdrew my acceptance, so hopefully someone else will be able to take it.:luck:

Yup waiting just like you guys..............Uconn was my first pick, unfortunately I ended up getting a march interview for some reason or another. Pizza, I can't really tell you what the chances of getting accepted are this late in the game, one reassuring fact is that Uconn offers acceptances up until august. I've tried coercing admissions as much as possible being that they are so late to give out answers but apparently there is still a good number of February applicants who haven't heard back yet. Dr. Sanford said he hoped to get notifications out by the 20th. For those still waiting I would keep calling admissions or Lynda Fox to keep the pressure on. Best of luck.

Eeyore and PLSTCHR, thanks a lot for your responses!

Good luck and hope we receive some good news in the next few days.

this is the only school i applied to (out of 22) that i never heard back from at all. was this normal for them to do a true silent rejection? congrats to everyone who got in and good luck to all those on the wait list.

still havent heard anything from them, and they never answer their phones =(

I called as well. Apparently the status of February to March applications is still unknown. They couldn't really tell me much other than everyone from that group has been calling about their applications. They suggested emailing Dr. Sanford. They do have a standing alternate list so I'm not certain if they plan on altering it following completion of the remaining applications.......................I'm not sure what to think

I emailed Dr. Zeff today and he said that the high waitlist ranking is very close to coming out.
