Congratulations! :hardy: Hope to get mine after work too...

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!

SUPER CONGRATS TO YOU!!!!!! 😀

Now at least we know that we can expect something in the mail today. Gah! My mail comes around three, and I have a class from 3-5:20! How convenient! lol

hey guys

congrats to those of you who got in and good luck to those of you still waiting i hope you all hear something good soon

I had a question I got an email yesterday about the md phd program at the uic champaign campus...i never applied to the school and was wondering if this is an email sent out to everyone who goes through amcas or something is it too late in the cycle to apply to the school now? thanks and good luck ev1

i had 3 interviewers at the same time (2 profs, 1 M4).. and even though it was supposed to last around 30 mins... mine went to 45 because i was the last one to go and we had a great talk going 🙂

it was pretty laid back. mostly questions about me, healthcare, and one "scenario" which i thought was pretty easy.

also, i interviewed in rockford so maybe it's different in other places...
At Chicago, you have 3 separate interviews lasting about 30 minutes each, though two of my interviewers went about 10 min over.

i didnt get anything in the mail. but its good to know at least theyve been sent. Congrats BBender. Tomorrow should be the day.

****.

Got the "still reviewing" e-mail today:

Dear 2010 Medical School Applicant:

The Committee on Admissions of the UIC College of Medicine reviewed your application this month. We wish to advise you that no final decision has been reached on your candidacy, but that you are still under consideration. Due to the large number of applications we have received, the committee is spending more time reviewing candidates. Please note that the Committee reserves the right to withhold all final decisions until June 1st.

We will update you if your status in the process changes. We ask that you notify us of mailing address or phone number changes so we may communicate promptly with you.
Anyone know what my odds are of getting in at this point? BTW, I got your PM, QuinnWatson. Guess not.

Anyone else get this, or am I really the worst applicant to be interviewed up to this point?

how far's rockford from chicago? i interview there in early november but i live in chicago.

Depends on traffic very much. Looks like it'd be around 2 hours with traffic at this time. May be closer to 1.5hr or up to 3 depending.

Another month of this hanging over my head. Christ.

I still honestly cannot figure out what I did in my interview that would've flagged me. I genuinely felt like I connected with each of my interviewers and that they enjoyed me.

do you guys think the committee is meeting again tomorrow? i interviewed 10/14 and want to know when it becomes acceptable for me to start constantly checking my status (not that i'm not doing it now...)

Just got that email. Oh well, at least I can stop checking the mail so vigorously.

I got that same email about a month or so ago...I'm pretty sure it's just something they send out to people. I also received something from Alabama about their md/phd program

depending on what campus you interviewed at your status should change to decision pending relatively soon. I interviewed at Chicago on a Friday and it changed by Monday I believe. I'm pretty sure the adcom meets once a month (every 3rd Thursday around) so you will probably hear next month at the earliest around that time.

Wow they just mailed it yesterday!!! Here's to hoping I get it by Friday...
Congrats to you...hopefully the rest of us waiting will join you in the next day or two.

it already changed to decision pending 1-2 days ago... you think itll take until nov?

since they already met this month for those of us that interviewed early october and in september...yes, I'm pretty sure the committee only meets once a month. you just missed it but the good news is october is almost over 👍

i am getting nervous! and the UIC interview feedback entries from this cycle are pretty sparse . . .

those of you who interviewed already, is it really laid back as they say? what were the hardest/most interesting questions you got asked?:scared:

edit to add- i am interviewing in chicago, so i know that makes a small difference in the interview format.

I've tried to enter feedback twice and after taking the time to enter it in every time I press "update" it tells me I need to log in again...I guess I'm too slow 😕(although this system does seem to log you out fairly quickly)

my hardest question for me was "how would you fix healthcare and do you agree with the public option"...thats a sticky subject

also..."what were the top 3 problems facing physicians"

for the most part (minus one of my interviewers) it was extremely conversational. The student didn't ask many of the typical interview questions.

I got asked why UIC twice...strengths/weaknesses, what makes a good doc basically, and the usual interview questions. (the majority of these were from one interviewer...he asked a lot of questions but it wasn't awkward and we had a good conversation)

Two of my three interviewers were extremely nice...no stress

I know how nervous you must be! But I want you to know that it really is pretty laid back. When I started talking to my interviewer, I thought that what we were doing was just simple small talk ... but the "small talk" continued for a good half hour! I didn't get asked any questions on ethics, healthcare, traits of a good doctor, or anything complicated like that (even though I prepared so much for it)! I think the best question I got asked was what my favorite subject outside of science was. 🙂

Best of luck to you!

i don't know what it's like during rush hour. you would have to take 290/90 west. if it were me personally, I'd probably leave super early to beat traffic, like at 6 or 630, then kill some time having coffee once i got there. (well that would be for like a 9am interview.) of course thats just me, i am perpetually late for things, so when they are important i leave ridiculously early. but if you leave too late, like at 7 or 730 traffic might be bad. if you have an afternoon one traffic shouldnt be so bad though.

thanks for all the insight, guys. even though i have (i think?) coherent opinions about healthcare reform and stuff, i get SO nervous that i am afraid i will forget what i am saying and start to sound like an idiot.

i was also reading the "how to get here" on their website and noticed that it still says the el stop is the blue link polk stop. that train is now the pink line. although i figure probably no one has mentioned it because anyone who would be taking the el probably already knows that. but in case any of you are coming from out of town and then taking the el . . . heads up.

there's still a blue line stop too but its a few blocks in a different direction and has a different name ('uic medical district') so if you got off there and tried to follow the directions from polk you would definitely get lost . . .

ps CONGRATS again to those of you with acceptances!

Got my big envelope tonight! Lots of stuff in it, including immuno records forms. G'luck to those interviewing soon!

Hey congrats!!!!! 😀 You must be sooo excited!

I am getting worried now. I haven't received anything in the mail, yet. 🙁

Finally got to "applicant" today...been complete since 8/13! Praying for an interview now.

Got my big packet in the mail! Sorta anti-climactic though. but feels good!

Still Application in Process since July but received an e-mail today inviting me to attend an Urban Open House in November. Anyone else get this?

Yes, I got it and would go but not trying to make two trips, if I could get an interview and have it scheduled at the same time I would definitely go.

I just received that email as well....but I actually attended last year. Half of the people there weren't applying at the time and I don't really think its geared towards people who are in the middle of the application process. It's not a bad idea to go to get to meet some of the major players in admissions and learn more about the school tho...they also had a mock interview portion and maybe even MCAT advice or something if I recall correctly.

Anyways, since there were quite a few individuals who weren't applying I think they just send that out to anyone who they think would be interested whose email address they have. They will probably also send you other stuff throughout the year like I received last year such as a MCAT verbal workshop...

My advice would be to just hang in there! I know people who interviewed as late as February and March and got accepted....and one of them ended up with Chicago campus.

Thanks so much for the clarification. In light of this info, I'll likely not go since I've already secured admissions this cycle so it would be sort of pointless. Like one of the other posters said, it would be worth it if it correlated with an interview date. It also said in the e-mail that you had to have applied to UIC through AMCAS. In any event, I hope they make a decision on me soon instead of keeping me in limbo indefinitely. :xf:

So, I just got off the phone with the admissions office (I got a little impatient... My status has changed to "Final Decision Made" with the additional correspondence tab, however, I still haven't received a packet).

According to the counselor I spoke to, the AdCom still hasn't sent my packet. He strongly emphasized that he wasn't sure if it was an acceptance or a rejection. So, either:

A) They are going through the list of accepted applicants really slowly (day-by-day)
B) Or, they are sending out the acceptances first, than rejections.

Here's hoping it's (A). 😛 Back to waiting....

yeah good choice and good luck to you...

fyi it says "have submitted an application to UIC-COM via the American Medical College
Application Service or plan to apply to UIC-COM in the near future."

and in my opinion a majority of the information they went over such as how to write your PS and applying to amcas seemed like it would be way to late to help anyone currently applying (although yes there were individuals there currently applying, I just don't think the program was very beneficial to them outside of helping them see the school, meet ppl etc. Also most of the people there were from the Chicago area/attended UIC as the program takes place during the weekday for practically the entire day). I believe this program was almost around Thanksgiving...kinda late to learn how to write your PS, apply to amcas and submit a secondary.

I just don't think attending will have any affect on your chance of acceptance but that's not to say it's pointless if you had the chance and were in the area (which apparently isn't the case).

still waiting...🙁

are all of you in illinois that already got your packet? I'm IS but had my mailing address changed from Chicago to my school address (not in illinois obviously)...

Yup, I am from the suburbs. Considering that you are out of state now, you probably have one or two more days to wait. It will be okay, though. I promise. 🙂

finally applicant in process... what does this mean again?

Nothing worth writing home about. Some people have actually gone from application -> applicant application and back again.

what the heck... what does this mean?!?! :scared:

I believe that it means that your application is being reviewed right now. Keep an eye on your status page as it should change within two weeks (hopefully) to inform you of an interview invite (hopefully).

Hope this helps! 🙂

Means they are reviewing my app right now huh?

Wow, I must have wrote a longer essay than I thought. They have been reading my app for 65 days:laugh:

Those of you that have interviewed (I see some of you have already been accepted, congrats!!) or received an interview invite, how long did you spend as "Applicant in Process".

I have been "applicant in process" for over three weeks. Patiently (maybe not so patiently) waiting for an invite. Maybe UIC Adcom will read this and send me an invite soon. I am IS.

I was complete on 8/27/09 (but not until 9/2 technically because of MCAT score release)...applicant in process for about 2 weeks then invite on 9/22/09

IS

This process seems to be really random though (to us at least, I'm sure they know what they're doing in case they're reading 😀)...but I imagine they have a much greater volume of applications to get through right now. But even though some have already received acceptances you still have to keep in mind it is still VERY early in the app process.

Long time reader-- first time poster here...

I've been Applicant in Process since 9/22...nothing yet. IS

I hope to hear soon--the suspense is killing me! Good luck to everyone else and congrats to those who have been accepted 🙂

Hey guys,

for those od you have received your acceptance packet and plan on going to UIC, I have a quick question. The forms say that they must be turned in by the second of November. Now, does this mean that the college needs to receive it by that date, or does it mean that it needs to be postmarked by that date? The reason i ask, is that I do not plan on going home until the 30th of October, which is when I plan on sending in those forms. If anyone knows, and they could lte me know, that would be great! 🙂

:xf:hoping that my packet reaches the east coast today and I have mail waiting for me when I get home...

but...I was wondering (for those of you who already received yours) which campuses everyone was interested in?

Avoid Peoria if at all possible I would say. I was there for an interview yesterday and I feel like my undergraduate facilities are better than what they have there. Everything is out of the 70s and the interview day was really unorganized and lots of long time gaps to sit and suffer through. I probably had a total of 2 and a half hours of time just sitting in a chair waiting with nobody talking from the school. I felt like they didn't really talk about what was going to happen for the interview day until that morning. Hopefully Chicago is a different story!
