So for the chicago campus interview, I know it's 3 seperate interviews. Are all 3 interviewers faculty members? Or is one of the interviewers medical school student?

Also, do they give you lunch at the interview? Do they give you a locker to keep your stuff? Thanks.

No they're not all faculty. I had an alum, med student and faculty member. There aren't lockers to store your stuff but if you have a suitcase or something one of the admin ppl will help you with that (I saw individuals at my day that had suitcases and obviously didn't lug them around the entire day). For lunch we had chicago style deep dish pizza (3 different choices), caesar salad and there was also an alfredo pasta. Lunch was really good I must say and I'm not a Connie's fan (if you're from chicago you'll know what I'm talking about) 👍

Good luck! Everyone was friendly and the interviews aren't intended to be stressful! My faculty and med student interview were extremely laid back and conversational, forgot I was at a med school interview a couple times.

Has anyone gone from "Applicant in Process" for a long time (I was Applicant for about 2 months) and then back to "Application is in Process." I can't figure out what is going on... I feel like they decided to skip on my application but I have heard that this has happened to others before who ended up getting interviewed.
Can anyone comment on whether this is bad for me or not. Thanks

It's not the best thing to happen, but not a final decision by any means. It means your application has been reviewed and now put on hold. They will re-review your app later in the season to consider you for an interview. So while they will not give you an interview now, they are by no means ruling you out. Write an update letter to show your continued interest.

Happened to me, and I'm interviewing this week...it's certainly not the kiss of death, so hang in there! 🙂

I've been complete since early September and my status has never changed to "Applicant in Process". Does that mean my file hasn't even been looked at yet?

Thanks for taking the load off a bit...but can you please tell me if you ever went back to "Applicant in process" before getting interview invite. And if so, how long it took you to go back. Thanks

So, after already having been "applicant in process" for a few weeks, I went back to "application is in progress," and I had that status for about 3 weeks(ish). Then, I went back to "applicant in process" for another 3-4 weeks, and got offered an interview from there. Got the interview invite in the second week of October. Hope that helps!

Hmmm.. by this post, it seems like files aren't reviewed unless your status says "applicant in process"? Dammit that means my file hasn't even been looked at yet and it's been 2 months. :annoyed:

Thanks Orange4me, I guess I got a long wait-and-see period ahead of me. Man, I was complete late august and still nothing positive.

still can't believe I haven't been invited to interview here... This process is so random.
That is definitely weird Caesar. This process is like throwing darts blindfolded.

I'd love a little in-state love right now... I figured I'd get some in state love before any out of state love but i guess not...

I believe my application was done 10/22.

Any guesses about when I could expect to have some movement on my status page? Two months? Four?

I've been complete and "Application in Process" since early September with no changes since then.

But I'm also OOS. Seems the in-staters have had a little bit faster processing.

Got my Chicago campus placement. Good stuff.

has anyone had the "decision pending" status, post-interview? and does it mean just exactly what it says or has a decision been made?

i've been "application in process" since mid-september. i don't think i was ever "applicant in process."

i apologize if this has already been addressed, but what exactly is the difference between the two statuses?

application in process = they have not yet looked at the app?
applicant in process = on hold for re-review?

??

thanks for any input!

I'm in the same boat. From what I can gather, application in process = not currently reviewing your file. Applicant in process = currently reviewing your file. So if you've never been Applicant in process (which I've never been either), I can only assume they haven't looked at your file yet.

It's only when people go from application in process to applicant in process and back again to application in process that it may mean their file will be re-reviewed at a later time.

Got my Chicago campus placement. Good stuff.

 When did you mail in your acceptance forms? It looks like they still haven't cashed my check yet so I'm guessing they haven't got to mine yet...I mailed it in last Monday I believe.

It means exactly what it says! The committee meets once a month (usually 3rd thursday) so after the 3rd thursday of this month you should get a status change...if not that means that you will be reviewed again in the next adcom meeting. If they've made a decision on your application it will say "Final decision made on xx/xx/xx" and then you have to wait via snail/mail

If you look at the status page, it will inform you of everything that they have received from you. 🙂

aaah thanks! I thought we were done with that lol

It says my pre-enrollment requirements aren't complete yet but I swore I turned in everything that they asked for...

What all did you guys send in? The transcript and hepatitis B form (2 things I'm missing) are not required to received the campus placement right?

No those things are not required for campus placement. The hepatitis B form is actually a much more detailed than hepatitis B form that you have to have filled out by a clinician and will have to get blood work for. This form won't be due until mid summer.

so when do you think the committee is meeting again??

at my interview they told us the end of Nov . . . but the end of Nov is Thanksgiving . . . hopefully they will do it before that? :xf:

I have been "awaiting admissions officer letter review" for about a month. Anybody else stuck on this list for a while?

I have been complete since 7/30 and still haven't heard back. My status reads "Applicant in Process." Has anyone else been complete this long and not heard back yet? Do they send rejection letters via mail or email? Thanks guys.

"Applicant in Process" is a good sign. Keep an eye on your status in the upcoming days for possible info. If it goes to "Application in Process" that's like a "hold." Or you will get an interview invite or rejection. You should know more soon! Keep your hopes high!

i've been complete around 8/20ish and finally went to applicant in progress. Sad how that makes me happy

I was wondering if anybody was getting a mail from U of I regarding MD/PhD program that they are trying to recruit students for.

I have no affiliation with the school, and had no interest in this school as it is an OOS school for me.

However, if I were to apply as MD/PhD my state residency would not matter.

It seems like the school wants me to apply for this program, but I don't want to waste my money on an application that is being promoted to everybody else.

So my question is, has anybody been receiving these MD/PhD promotion mails from U of I?

I got one too. I think they just mass mail it to anyone with a high MCAT score.

If you're talking about the Medical Scholars program, then I probably wouldn't waste my money...I've received multiple emails asking me to apply to md/phd programs (including this program at U of I). Unless you're already applying md/phd I wouldn't waste my money on it. I have a friend currently in this program at the Urbana campus who found out about the program through that email last year, but he was already applying MD/PhD for the program at the Chicago campus (along with other schools)

Guess I am not applying to Urbana.

I see no need to dump well earned $200 down the drain.

I was stuck on this for like 3 weeks. Someone else had the same thing posted on this thread a few weeks ago too. From what I understand, its pretty self explanatory.. your file is waiting to be reviewed by an admissions officer to make sure the letters of rec. are sufficient. While I had two profs write 2/3 of my letters, my third letter was from a priest who knew me well. Maybe the priest was the one they had to look at.

Were any of your letters out of the ordinary?

Thanks for your reply!

My letters were from three professors. Two science and a music. Pretty ordinary, I'd think?

I had this status forever as well. But i called the office earlier this week to "ask was there anything i could do" and basically she reviewed my letters over the phone real quick and within minutes i was changed to applicant in process or whatever it says..lol...moral of the story call the admissions office

Having trouble understanding my app status.
I submitted the secondary 10/12 and when I log in, it says my application is complete. But I cannot find anything that says "Application in Process" or anything as is described on the first page of this post.
Any ideas?

Under status this is what it says...(1 letter = letter packet)
Current Status - - Recommendation(s): 1 received from AMCAS, expecting a total of 1, awaiting Admissions Officer letter review-

Dude, read like, 3 posts above you. I think they explain it nicely.

Sorry about that- just jumped to the end and posted.

Anyway- I called the admissions office and they said they just hadn't downloaded my letters from AMCAS. The lady did so and then changed my status to application in progress or w/e.

Does this mean my application will reviewed as complete on 11/09? I have been complete since 10/12 and my letters were in, they just never downloaded them...

If they weren't downloaded, then you weren't considered complete yet with the school.

Hey guys,

I believe my status has been Applicant in Process for 3 weeks now. Should I email them with an update letter to expediate the process?

applicant in process is a good thing as it means you're being reviewed...many people who have already received interviews were in "process" for at least 2 weeks before they were offered an invite. Since it is a little later in the cycle I would expect for reviews to take a little longer as they have more applications to get through. IMO 3 weeks is not enough time to worry unless your status changes back to "application" (even so that doesn't mean all hope is lost as people can go back and forth). However, if you have legitimate things to update your file with then I don't see the harm in that. Some schools are really receptive to updates (and encourage them)...I'm not sure about how UIC is but that's obviously your call.

I do have some updates. But, its like volunteer experience, so I was going to ask them to write me a recommendation. Also, I thought the letter of intent was to show a more personal reason why you feel you are better suited to the college. Or is my understanding incorrect. Guess what I'm asking is, what does one write in a letter of intent and for UIC, what's the email?

Thanks!

My status has finally changed to "Applicant in Process" and I was complete late August so I'm definitely relieved. Hopefully I hear something before the year's over.

I'm not entirely sure what u mean by a "letter of intent" but if you're referring to an update letter that also expresses why you're really interested in the school I think we're talking about the same thing. A letter of intent sounds like something you'd send post-interview. I don't know how they should be written though...I was supposed to send one to some other schools awhile back and never got around to it because I wasn't exactly sure how to write it w/o +pity+

My friend sent me a copy of one of his letters he sent but it was post-interview so not exactly sure of what a pre-interview letter should entail.

Try searching sdn and see if you kind find threads about it...

**I just saw someone started a thread about it under the Allo pre-med forum**

Has anyone received an interview invite lately? I wonder how often they meet and select applicants for interviews.... It would be nice to know so I could stop checking the status page every day :scared:
