Congrats! Now, let's just hope that I filled out the Safety and Technical Standards form correctly. Gosh, I feel dumb.

Ya you filled it out correctly. I did it the same way this afternoon.

Congrats to everyone who got the official package today. I got mine around noon and was too ecstatic to come to this forum. Just been busy telling everyone that I am finally accepted in the school that I always wanted to go to! 😍:soexcited::biglove:

Pri84: you should only worry if it's Friday and you still haven't received it so just chill! You're probably in! 🙂

Congratulations!

Thank you, thank you, thank you! I thought that I had filled it out incorrectly.

Also, you guys can set up email accounts by first retrieving your UIN number here: https://www.icard.uillinois.edu/secure/act_tellme.cfm

One thing that sucks, though. You won't be able to choose your own email address as it is system assigned.

7 months after interviewing...

And I'm ****ing in! It's all over...I'm going to freakin' medical school!!!!

:soexcited:

Congrats Visionary!!! You deserve that acceptance and celebration more than anyone on this forum. Afterall, you went through seven months of post-interview waiting with decision pending! I would have gone crazy! to you. Come this fall, you should def try to figure out why you were on 7-month hold. I know I'd be curious! Again, happy for you man!

as quinn said, you're not signing your soul away...but why would you withdraw and attend another institution? 😉 stay with us!
(yeah, i know, i know, there are many factors that go into deciding which school to commit to other than just cool classmates!)

haha! I know that I will be surrounded with good company if I attend UIC. Seeing the high price tags of medical schools, I may, however, have to choose a school according to funding.

And it's official, a beautiful fat packet finally arrived today. The news hasn't fully sunk in yet; it's surreal to not have to worry about getting into med school anymore! Good luck to those of you still waiting for good news!

Ditto! I finally got my acceptance letter in the mail -- what a relief.

AWESOME! I've been hoping for you guys to get it soon, I know exactly how much it sucks to wait lol. We're going to the show people! We're going to the show!

Backstage passes!!

Are any of you guys requesting Chicago?

WHOOOOOAH MAN! I can not believe I got this big envelope in the mail today, I'm absolutely ecstatic, congrats to everyone who them today, this is incredible!!!

I'm still feeling like I'm on cloud 9, but having said that, I'm curious. If I wanted to maybe take a year off and do some work with Americorps, and maybe better my chances of getting into the Chitown campus (which is probably all but overfilled right now), do they allow that? or does it not change your chances....

once I turn in my card, how long does it take to get a site placement response, too?:laugh:😀

Aren't you a IL resident?

CONGRATULATIONS you guys!! And you were worried 😉

Lol Amdavadi, I've been in a daze all day, had a test and now I'm just relaxing, riding the buzz and feeling awesome

That's an interesting thought. Anyone know about UIC's deferment policy? Are you allowed to request a year off? Do you already have to have a mission trip or job lined up before petitioning?

I plan on matriculating next year, but I was just curious if anyone knew how the process works.

I know that if you have a good enough reason, you can request to defer for a year.

So I haven't received my acceptance package yet BUT today I received an e-mail from the financial aid office with a UIN number and everything!!!

seriously... are they just messing with me?! I want to believe I am in but I wanna see that big fat envelope first!!!!! (and btw, I still haven't received the background check email)

I mailed mine the day after my packet came in the mail. I got a snail mail letter for campus placement a little over a week after I sent my card in. They do say you can petition once you get placed if you have a good reason for being at one campus vs. another.

Aren't you a IL resident?

Yeah, I'm an Illinois resident, so I expect U Illinois to be the most feasible; however, some schools have lower tuition costs and living expenses. I am holding out to wait for each school's financial package.

Those who do not yet have a campus assignment will not be able to attend Second Look Day. 🙁

Like which ones? I know SIU is little cheaper but if you get in chicago track, there is no competition and besides, SIU is only for people who are big fan of PBL. And as far as OOS schools go, I don't know of any school that has OOS tuition and living expenses that total less than 50K. Here at UIC, you get to do clinical rotations in country's biggest medical district, most schools cant beat that either.

In short, I guess what I'm saying is.. Please don't leave us! 😳 😉 😀

Is this second look same as the campus tour on the interview day but just for people who didn't interview at chicago campus?

Did you guys notice that almost everyone who was frequenting and posting on the forum, got in.! Was that some type of coincidence or was this just really large acceptance batch?

There is a tour of the campus during second look day but there are also presentations throughout the day about what we can expect as medical students if we attend UIC (research opps, student life, etc). that's what the schedule said 🙂

Can anyone tell me how many days after the committee meeting did they receive the "you are on hold" email [if you were ever on hold that is].
Since the committee met on Friday, I have had no changes to the "decision pending" status on my portal since my interview.
Thanks in advance.

and p.s. A BIG BIG CONGRATS TO ALL THOSE ACCEPTED :highfive:

If we actually could, I would say lets run some statistics and see if that actually is what happened, that SDN posters were more likely to get in.

In short, I guess what I'm saying is.. Please don't leave us! 😳 😉 😀

I agree! Don't leave! UIC is great!

That's not a bad idea but for that, we have to go through all the previous postings and sort users out by how many posts each user made to this forum and then see if they got in. The problem with this would be that the users that didn't get in would many times end up not posting their rejection on the forum and they would simply move on so the results would be highly skewed toward our hypothesis (which is that SDN users have statistically higher chance of securing an acceptance) because most times, only the users that did get in ended up posting their result on the site.

In all, idea is not bad but SDN doesn't provide us with tools to analyze such information efficiently. And I don't have time to go through it all manually. If someone does, I'd be happy to see what they find. 😉

From what I remember from visionary's posts, the email was received on Monday following the thursday's committee meetings. There are many reasons why you haven't received anything this time. The committee meets third thursday of every month and since next month, it will be 20th.. and since that's after May 15th, it's not clear whether they would meet or not. But since you haven't been rejected, my guess is that you will be put on waitlist. Now.. how they would decide where to put you on the waitlist.. I don't know.
Good luck man.

You guys are great! The decision is going to be very difficult; I would definitely lean towards attending UICOM if I get placed in the Chicago track.

Congrats! Were you on west coast?
Yes, I live in San Francisco.

This is my first acceptance (after 3 waitlists). I'm so excited.

Is anyone thinking about doing the Summer Prematric, or have information about it?

Well congrats again! It must be great to know that this grueling process is finally over for you! It's gonna be quite a change in weather for you as well from SF to Chicago lol.

About the summer prematric program, I posted several links regarding that couple days ago. Check out Page 40 or 41. As far as I know, you have to be invited but I might be wrong. Keep us updated.

I think it was a really large acceptance batch. Two reasons why I believe that's the case:

1) A large number of people around me (non-SDNers) have just gotten accepted.

2) When I interviewed, the Dean explained that last year they went over their quota of 300 students back in February. So people interviewing in March got shafted. He stressed to us that this year they were letting in fewer acceptances than ever, because they didn't want to fill up the class too early.

So it looks like they sent out a minimal # of acceptances each month until the cycle was completed, and then filled up the class in April. That's my best guess, anyway.

Does anyone have the link to the page where we can view our Secondary Application? Just found out that I was given a conditional acceptance based on my Secondary Application and Interview.

You can no longer view your secondary application. Hopefully, you saved a Word document of sorts of your responses...

Don't worry. As far as I know, they have to let you know before May 15 because campus placement is going to be a big part of a decision for a lot of people.

Shoot, quick question, the BESS requirement, I have AP Psych and Microeconomics, and a Organizational & Group Dynamics class, do you guys think that would count?

Other non science classes:

Creativity, Art & Culture

General Ethics

and a handful of history/humanities classes

Dude if you hadn't met the requirements, you wouldn't have gotten an interview even. As long as you finished the classes you listed on your secondary, you should be fine.

You sure man? Sorry, I'm going back to my paranoia state cause I kinda feel its too good a thing to happen to me, getting into UIC, so I'm going back and making sure that it doesn't get taken away for some stupid reason

FINALLY!!!!! I got my acceptance package today!!!!!! YYYEEEYYY!!!!!
:highfive: :highfive:

sssooo happy!!!

😀

But, some of you were right, my acceptance is contingent on my participation of the summer pre-matriculation program... BUT I am looking at this in a positive light! It will give me a good preparation for my first year of medical school!

🙂 still very happy!!!!

Congratulations to everybody!!!!

Ya I'm sure man. Look, it's natural to doubt yourself after such a long process but it is what it is. You've been accepted! If your mind still doesn't believe it, just look at your acceptance letter again.. and again.. until you stop doubting yourself... because your patients sure won't like a doctor who's not sure of himself. So believe in yourself and your achievements.. 🙂

Congratulations!!! We knew you were gonna make it. 😀

About summer premat, which campus did they assign you to? And I agree, you would be miles ahead of your classmates when classes start in August because of this premat program! Good luck!

I'm doing the program, too, Pri! are you definately going to uic? It'll be great to have another Bay Area person there!

Where are you all living for the summer program? Are you getting an apartment starting in June and just keeping it for the whole year? I'm doing the program too, and I haven't decided what I'm doing about housing yet.
