Really? Really? I come this far, I read 20 posts saying, "Congrats, you're in, you got the additional tab", only to find out I am going to be the first person in the ENTIRE ****ING HISTORY OF UIC to get an additional tab before May, 8 months after my interview, AND ****ING GET REJECTED?

I can't stand this anymore. **** this school and it's arcane ****ing website. Just ****ing tell me.

I have several questions if you guys can help me:
1. Was March 31st the last interview date?
2. When is the next committee meeting?
3. If you interviewed last month and your status still says decision pending, does it means you will prolly be waitlisted?
4. Has anyone who interviewed in Rockford on March 31st have a status update?

1. No, from what I recall on the grid, April 6/8 was the last interview date shown; March 30 was the very last date for Chicago interviews.
2. ?
3. I am no longer decision pending, but according to the dean's presentation, it just means that you're on hold -- I don't think that necessarily means wait-list.
4. I interviewed in Chicago on March 30 and just recently received a status update.

uhhhh what? so you got an additional correspondence tab and you think you got rejected?

Guys, calm yourselves!!! I know it's hard but I'm sure you'll find out something soon 🙂

I think there isn't really a method to mailing or CBC or anything. Once you're accepted it must be done in batches or maybe even just when they get to it? I say this because I interviewed in February and got accepted in March. I already got my packet and my campus placement (Chicago, woot!!), but still haven't gotten my CBC email. I already gave them my deposit and am officially in, but yeah, no CBC email. There is also STILL no date next to my Additional Correspondence tab, but I already got my financial aid stuff and notification that they received my acceptance of their offer and my deposit. I think it's different for everyone! So far it seems everyone who has gotten additional correspondence has gotten a welcome packet (mine came exactly a week to the day, but I'm east coast). CONGRATULATIONS!! 😀

I needed this.

Thank you.

Because, as you people can probably tell, I'm having a nervous breakdown over this. Zen, Michael...zen...

I got the email too.. Yay!!!

You can do MD/PhD after you start med school but you really have to be on your toes and find a research lab within your first couple months there, demonstrate your abilities as a researcher, convince the PI or COM faculty to serve as your research mentor, convince at least two other faculty members to write you a recommendation letter and then you apply for phd by the end of the first semester. If you're accepted, your're MSTP if you're on Chicago campus and MSP if you were on UPR track. If you're on UPR track and get into MSP then you have to stay in Urbana all six or seven years that it takes you to finish both. In that case, most MSP M3 and M4 rotations are in Carle hospital, while some in Provena and VA.

I...didn't get the CBC e-mail.

Christ, don't do this to me.

I got the damn additional correspondence thing, I interviewed in September, it's not May.

Would they really keep me on hold for 7 months just to reject me at a time like this? Why?

**** **** **** ****

I really don't think so. Check your spam folder. Have you been accepted before? If so, there is a high chance other school that accepted you already did the background check and so you wouldn't get another email.

I really hope you get in man. :xf:

Oh, I had a CBC done for another school already...I just assumed each school wanted to do their own? Maybe then that's why I didn't get a CBC email? Who knows!! This is confusing! :meanie:

Hey guys... I know that I'm getting waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay ahead of myself, but do any of you know if matriculating students receive stethoscopes as gifts from the school/alumni or if they actually have to buy their own?

I have two other MD acceptances, and only received 1 CBC. I got the final decision made with additional correspondence tab. Although not getting the CBC worries me, I don't think you have to fill it out more than once.

No I'm sure that if you've had CBC done before, it wouldn't be done again. AAMC would just forward your approved background report from Certiphi directly to UIC or any subsequent school you get accepted to. You receive email the first time because they have to have your consent to do a background check on you so AAMC sends us an email to let us know that company named certiphi will be contacting us to obtain our consent per request of background check from one of their participating med schools.

As M1.. you only get a white coat with your name and your school's logo.. I think you might get stethoscope in your third year but def not in your first year b/c u wouldn't need one at that point. I don't know if you have to buy the stethoscope.. it might be complimentary from the school.. def not from the alumni tho b/c the way I think of it, I wouldn't want to just give away my first ever stethoscope you know? 🙄

Anyways, are you guys ready to stalk your mailman today? hahah

Somehow, I feel doubtful about receiving anything from UIC today. I live in the Chicagoland area and usually receive mailings from UIC one day after the date of the letter. So, if they printed and mailed out letters on Friday, I should have received the materials on Saturday. However, there's always the uncertain possibility that larger envelopes take longer to process at the post office, and, thus, have delivery delays when compared to regular envelopes.

As previously mentioned ...

😉

Received nothing today either.

Dog died, though.

O, this is the poison of deep grief; it springs
All from her father's death. O Gertrude, Gertrude,
When sorrows come, they come not single spies
But in battalions.

ya didn't receive anything either.. let's hope that this doesn't stretch on for days. 🙁

Visionary, I'm so sorry to hear about your loss.
I know you'll hear something from UIC soon to lift your spirits. Was your dog old? If my little cat (who is more like a dog in character) passed I don't know what I would do!

16 years old, a Westie. He's been going downhill for the last few months, so this was expected. Still hard for everyone.

:xf:Hoping my family has something good to feel about this week.

Hello,
@ VisionaryTics: I've been reading posts for months, but this is my first time writing. I interviewed in March, and also got the "Final decision" statement with the additional correspondence box. I feel good, positive and hopeful! Stop freaking out, I'm sure we'll hear something great soon.

Aww, Westies are so cute. Yes, a loss is always hard even when it's sort of expected. Keep up the good thoughts! Like Quinn said, you guys with the additional tab are in. I mean, you just have to be if the rest of us who had the same thing got in! Tomorrow hopefully!

Visionary, that sucks man, I feel for you man, and yea we know that we are in, but until we get that letter, its still in the air, drifting in the winds of fate. I need to see that piece of paper that justifies all of the pain, anguish, sacrifice that college contained. Without it, all the nice posts and congrats are just that, empty words without physical proof.

Hmmm... I have the final decision with an additional correspondence tab (w/ no date) and just got the CBC email today from AMCAS. I am cautiously optimistic... if I let myself get all excited and it turns out not to be an acceptance my poor little heart might asplode.

Meow, you would not have gotten a CBC email if you had not been accepted 😀

See, I know we shouldn't freak out until we get the letter in the mail but I am starting to freak out a little bit.

I had the decision made note in my status and the correspondence tab with no date, HOWEVER, I did not receive a CBC e-mail. This would be my first acceptance so I should receive one right?! 🙁

Please LORD make this be an acceptance!!!! PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE!!!!

I wonder if adcoms read these forums and laugh at our posts?

Technically, you should receive a CBC email if it's your first acceptance like I did today but when you receive it is not set in stone, they are released in batches. Read Sweetpea's post above.. #1956.

But at the same time, I remember that you interviewed the same day as me in chicago and so something doesn't look right given the same situation except maybe californians get the CBC email later. 🙄

Or... I remember last year someone with a similar situation as you actually got offered a position in summer prematriculation program, which he had to pass in order to secure his acceptance and in that case, CBC is done once you pass the prematriculation program. So if you're in that case, you would technically be accepted but only on a condition that you go through 6-week prematriculation program in summer to prove your academic readiness for the med school if you're nontraditional student or URM. Hope this helps! 🙂

Whats this prematriculation program?

and hey did anyone interview in February on here?

Whats this prematriculation program?

The program's run under Urban health program and so there is no information about it anywhere on the med school site. Here are bunch of links that hopefully will give you answer you're looking for:

This program runs from second week in June to end of third week in July every year both on chicago and urbana campuses.. in parallel.

Does anyone know when the next adcom meeting is? Did anyone from the March 31st interviews get a status change?

So who's ready to stalk the mailman yet again today?

There's still no date in the "Additional Correspondence" column, so I'm doubtful that anything will come in the mail. Hopefully, I will be pleasantly surprised today.

Hey man don't jinx us all, maybe, just maybe today is the day.

Hey Everyone,

I interviewed 1/20 and my status changed this past monday,3/29, that a decision was made. Yesterday I received a packet in the mail offering me a post-bac seat! Very excited since this was my top choice and only acceptance. Watch out for post-bac offers possibly.

:laugh:Class of 2015:laugh:

Just want to remind you guys of this because I think this person had an additional correspondence tab.

You guys, I STILL have no date for additional correspondence and I'm 100% in. Don't go by the dates. If it says "Decision Made" with a note that says you will receive something by mail within 2 weeks then go by that!

Do they automatically offer you a postbac seat if you just apply? Wouldn't you have to do a separate application?

EDIT: Frick frick frick this is going to suck if all I got is a post-bac seat, I've told a bunch of people I may be getting in, I was so happy until you brought up that guy 🙁

I have to do the summer prematriculation.

Wait did you just get the mail?

EDIT: Nvm, i saw your older posts. Actually with that summer program you have a better chance of getting high grades early on in the main UIC medical program, so there's a silver lining there I suppose

My status page had the "A decision was made on...", and I have the additional correspondence tab. I haven't received a CBC email, but I got a strange email from the Office of Financial Aid about my Award for the 2010-11 year.

Has anyone else gotten an email about financial aid?

I would find the post-bacc offer weird if I got one. I have great grades at a top university and would be in the top decile for UIC's MCAT range. Clinical experience was my big question mark. A post-bacc would be a bad fit.

I am stalking the **** out of the mailman today.

wow if this is the case I would be really puzzled to tell you the truth. I just finished a post-bac program at UCLA with the same components as this one. I retook the MCAT and finished it with a 4.0 GPA.... unless it's just the tier III you mentioned... hum...

well, I have to stop speculating and just wait I guess...

I went from 😀 to 🙄 to 😳 to :scared:

Eh my GPA isn't so hot, a 3.34, but I got in the 90th precentile for the MCAT, and I have a lot of experience, clinical and otherwise. So maybe they'll put me in the summer program or the post-bac for my gpa, but come on! I WAS HAPPY! :scared::scared::scared::scared::scared:

Poll:

Go to school, attend the AMSA meeting and do my essays, or stay at home and stalk the mailman while doing my essay?

I hope you guys find out today, come to think of it I don't think that person had the additional correspondence tab just decision made so I think you guys are in. I went back and that was their only post so we will go back to the decision made + additional correspondence = acceptance. Congrats!

Too late, its been said once already, now we can't forget it. Thanks for trying though.

Don't stalk the mailman today. Stalk him tomorrow or Thursday. My bet is that some of you will find out tomorrow and some of you will find out on Thursday. 🙂

I dare you not to check the mail today ... AT ALL.
