I just got an interview, but I'm starting to question if I really want to go here. I am worried about how rigorous their curriculum can be if medical students have so much time to spend on the pre med threads of student doctor....🤣

oh snap! Zip is trying to be helpful and he has been, with all those stats and info. I have a 3.15 sGPA and 3.43 cGPA with a 37R MCAT, OOS status, i loooove chicago, already have a few interviews, but would love to interviewed here!

Yeah, well I could beat you up poindexter.

just joshin with you

Definitely not a poindexter 😉 ... I'm more like Quagmire minus the Asian girls in my closet.

This is my top school. And it's only 10 miles from my home! Just keepin hope to get accepted. 🙂

Yeah those first guys got the option to schedule for interviews 2 weeks out so im sure some more will go out later this week and beyond. Today was the first day back from vacation, doubt much go done then.

Does anyone know what exactly the interview format will be like? I have heard a couple of things ... either one twenty minute long interview with three interviewers at the same time ... or, three separate one-on-one 20-30 minute interviews ... The scenarios seem to lie on the opposite sides of the spectrum ...

demmit, i'm still applicant in process, have been for almost 2 weeks

Consider yourself lucky, I'm still at "Application is in Process" and I was complete in July.

It's a lot more frustrating waiting and knowing clearly that your application hasn't even been touched yet.

I have a friend who's an M1 this year and according to her, it's the 3 separate one-on-one scenario.

I was told I have to call tomorrow to speak to an admissions advisor about secondary...hmmmmmmm 😕 did anyone have to do this?

They might just want to clarify something within your secondary..nothing to worry about!!

Interviews are indeed 3 separate one-on-one interviews, each lasting 20-30 minutes. Either before or after your interview (depending on which time slot you select), there is lunch and a walking tour of the medical campus led by M2/M4 students.

Interview via snail mail too! It's been here for since sept. 4. it goes to my permanent address which I rarely check... so heads up! :luck:

Also, I made a couple of typos and duplicated a couple words in the essays. So, typos don't kill everything - phew.

did your online status change?

Secondary and fee sent: 7/9, composite letters received: 7/10.

And there's two pages on the status page, and yes, on the second page, it did update with interview offered and interview times.

By the way... they only gave me two dates which are only about a couple of weeks away from now. hmm.

when are earliest acceptances offered if anyone knows really quick?

How exciting! Thanks so much, Zip! 🙂

zip can confirm but id assume 0ct 15th like most every school. Thats the 1st day schools can technically let you know u are accepted.

They committee meets every 3rd thursday of the month and then decisions are given out. It turns out the third thursday of october is in fact october 15th. Therefore decisions will be made on that day, then snail mail really soon after.

Snail mail invites? Why??

That seems kind of random considering the first batch went out via e-mail if I remember correctly...

I haven't recieved my secondary yet though.... That's what worries me

consider it a good thing then. I emailed them a question about why I got the password but not the secondary, and they told me to call. i called them, and they just said - we sent it now, did you get it? - and i said yes. so they might just be checking your email address or trying to send it to you. don't worry 😉

The date that his letter came makes it sound like he (or she) was also part of the first batch of invites. If you read the previous years you'd see that some people get both mail and status update, but most just get status update.

if you read last years thread, it was a status update, but its ambiguous, its like findal decision made, plus CBC email. Then letter in a few days (depending on your location)

I don't know if that was in reply to me or not but that has nothing to do with what I was answering.

Just got an interview invite, the only one they had available was Sept 22 (which I had another interview on and flight booked...bc it's only 12 days away). Anyway I am not complaining, just saying it's frustrating. Luckily Southwest doesn't charge to change flights and it all worked out.

But the lady in admissions definitely made it sound like if you don't book now, there is a good chance you won't get one when new dates open up bc they fill up so quick.

Sorry I just had to defend the people that were irritated by the whole system. So Zip, I am trying to book my ticket, should I fly into MDW or O'Hare? And should I rent a car? Any advice would be helpful. Thanks.

Midway is definitely closer to UIC, and probably cheaper flights. UIC is about 12-15 from midway with no traffic. With traffic about 30-40 min.

Great. Thanks for your quick reply. Would you recommend renting a car? Also do you have any suggestions about where to stay? Usually, schools have been providing info on this but I can't really find anything on the UIC page.

Well taxicab rides will probably cost more than renting a car. If you have the money why not rent a car it'll make life much easier. But there's plenty of public transportation from midway. So that really is up to you.

In terms of hotels, mann theres so many (it is chicago after all). The Marriott at Medical District is super close.

Not sure how much time you have, but you can do it all with public transport, the orange line to the blue line will get you from midway to UIC.

Don't rent a car or take a taxi, take the train.

They only have 9/22 available, morning too.

To those with interviews, where are you guys staying?

Zip, any recommendations (preferably one with easy access to the Chicago campus and cheap)? 🙂

Spyderefs and I are twins! Can't wait to see you there.

I am with him and the accommodation recommendations, esp since there are so many places to stay around. Like do any have corporate rates w the school or where did you stay when you came for your interview? If you can remember that far back.

Thanks for all of the feedback on transportation. I have never been to Chicago, so would have no clue...but Orange to the Blue line it is! Now I just have to pray I don't get lost. haha.

How far away does the train stop from UIC?

You can always ask the CTA people (chicago transit authority workers who are at every station) to give you directions. I spent 4 years of undergrad running around on chicago public transportation and still ask them once in a while. But it's not hard at all, theres some big maps posted everywhere in the stations and in the trains that show you where its going and where it intersects with other lines ie orange intersects with blue etc.

I'm going to use either googlemaps or hopstop.com, they both give different public transportation routes though.

finally Applicant in Process... 👍 (complete in July)

I even checked like an hour ago and it was still "Application" . . . when I saw your post I checked just one more time (obsessive much?) and there it was.

I was complete 8/5, Instate

just keep checking . . . I'm sure me and womp aren't the only ones whose statuses are changing on a Monday morning 🙂

(disclaimer: i read back at least 3-4 pages before asking this, i apologize if it's been discussed but) . . . for those who got interviews, how long were they in this "applicant" limbo? days? weeks? i just want to try to restrain myself when i get the urge to keep checking!

Lets hope so, at least I got a few other interviews to prepare for which has kept me from checking too often. the worst is at work though, i have been stuck sitting the last few nights and there if the patient is asleep theres nothing to do but check this site and school websites.

Apparently sometimes months according to ruiner...
I'm so tired of checking this status page (and accidentally tabbing into the Forgotten Password page). I think I'll now take a breather for at least a week. But that Applicant in Process makes me feel a lot better. UIC is my top choice and now I can sleep without thinking my file is stuck in the crevices of some file cabinet, not to be seen until April.

yeah but it seems like the first indication of an interview is via a status change. so i don't want to miss it by like a week (if i get one) and end up getting a super late date . . .

paranoid. i know. i'll take a deep breath now :::ahhh:::
