when i interviewed, they said they would review the files this week.... so i'm hoping we find out tomorrow! ahh i dont want to wait another week or month or however long it's going to take
 
Regarding where the committee(s) is\are, the Assistant Dean at Peoria said that the main Admissions office is in Chicago but that the committee members at the satellite locations participate in the meetings via phone conference. So it doesn't matter where you interview, but either way the people you interviewed with will be participating in the decision-making.
 
nope. i have a feeling we're gonna have to wait til next thurs 🙁

They definitely said that they were meeting on the 18th at my interview, but maybe something pushed it back.
 
ouch, pre-interview decision made according to the status site

in other words, pre-interview rejection from my home institution OUCH!

biochemistry major

2 semesters of research in a biochem lab
service trips to the gulf coasts
hospital volunteer

1 year at a community college transfered to UIC

3.86 science GPA
3.76 overall GPA
29Q MCAT 9 physical 9 verb 11 bio

i guess that 29Q did me in.

okay this wambulance is headin out

my advice, take that MCAT early leave yourself time to retake it !!

got the "Additional Correspondence" tab last night and the CBC email today. Now going slightly crazy waiting for snail mail.

BTW the Associate Dean of Admissions spoke to us when I interviewed and said he had asked the committee to raise the initial acceptance standards because of the increase in applications this year. In earlier years, they've had slightly over their target of 300 students accept the offered places, and they want to hit the mark better this year. Basically, they're waiting for people to decline before they accept too many over the mark.

Doesn't necessarily mean it will be harder to get in, only more waiting...

they told us 3rd Thursday of every month was the magical meeting

when did you interview? If you interviewed recently your evaluations might not have been complete by their review
 
well i guess im on hold too then 🙁 i was really hoping for this acceptance. uic's my first choice.

depending on where you are you should get something by the end of next week.
 
I've been accepted to the RMED program, and I'm just waiting for the committee to review my application one last time. I was supposed to be reviewed in the meeting this month, but I was told that due to the extra large number of applicants, a lot of people (including me) got bumped to the March meeting.

So...if you haven't heard anything yet, I wouldn't get too down. You may have just gotten bumped to the next meeting.

I'm pretty sure they complete your interview evaluations on the spot, and the only way you won't be reviewed at the committee meeting is if you interviewed perhaps a day or two before the third Thursday.
 
also still have decision pending.

more waiting but i guess we should be thankful we're even being considered and getting interviews. UIC sure would be pretty awesome to get into. Congrats to all who've gotten in.

When did you interview? Mine was on 1/26 and the status page says "decision pending". I guess I have to wait for another cycle like so many other people! Congrats on your acceptance though!!!
 
I just received a "still under consideration" email, I guess the waiting continues indefinitely.
 
I got that same email.. Guess its back to waiting. Anyone know what the chances are after being put on "hold"?

Just found out (through email re: UMed interviews, which aren't scheduled yet, but I emailed someone to ask about the date) that Second Look day is April 23rd. I think the only official Second Look day occurs on the Chicago campus, according to previous posts here.
 
Interviewed mid-Jan.

Just got the official acceptance, now have to cross my fingers on a Chicago placement. Good luck to everyone!
 
How late does UIC interview?

I've been complete here forever... since october 15, still haven't heard anything though! whats going on?

More than likely if you get an interview you'll be one of the last ones. You're on a waitlist for an interview, essentially. If they get to March and they have open interview spots then you'll get an interview. In short, it's not as good as getting an interview right away, but it's a lot better than most people who get rejected as soon as the school considers their application.

Wasn't UIC accelerating their interview schedule this year also? March interviews are probably the very last ones.
 
Hey, I was accepted in December and during the interview I was told that the committee would send certain accepted applicants an e-mail offering them merit scholarships. To the currents students of U of I, do any of you know how selective this process is based on your knowledge of fellow students who have these scholarships? Thanks.

Has anyone been offered a merit scholarship yet, or know when they usually award them?

sounds about right. i got an early (ish) interview, and now i have been waiting for months while they continue to review my application. i think they just can't pull the trigger yet due to my subpar GPA.

in my mind i've already been rejected, so if i get in it will be a pleasant and interesting surprise.

This is good news - complete since Sept. here - just hoping its true.
 
Does anyone have any ideas as to where UIC stands at this point with offering interviews? I am still "application is in process" (since mid-september). Does this mean they have not even gotten to my application yet, or that they have reviewed it and put it to the side? Is it possible that this online status will not change, and I will just not be offered an interview (they may not even get to my file before their class is full)?

I have multiple acceptances, but am just looking for some closure from UIC at this point. :luck:
 
Just went from "Application" to "Applicant" yesterday. Hope this means something. I've been complete since mid-October.
 
does anybody know the grading system at each campus?
also, is it based on a curve, relative to other classmates?

Is it possible that my status can stay "application is in process" until the process is over, meaning my application will not get (re)reviewed even though they haven't denied me an interview yet?

Mine has been applicant in proces since September. I just called and the counselor said "you've been complete a long time" and I should call back next Thursday for a status update if nothing has been posted online by then. 😕 Hopefully i won't get the final decision pre-interview or I'd be sad.

I've also been an "applicant" the whole time and never went to "application" during this whole shebang, or if I have I haven't noticed.

Scratch that as soon as I did this phone status check I checked back tonightchanged for the first time to "application is in progress" since Sept. Does this mean it's over for me?
 
Ive always ALWAYS been application in process and never switched to applicant in process.

That is the correct order.

How the adcoms must be laughing at our applicant/application discussions. I think its kind of a waiste of money. My "application" hasnt budged.:idea:

just called today and i was REJECTED

kinda weird being rejected over the phone tho, cuz the first thing out my mouth would have been "WTF" if it was over email... but i was on the phone with an admissions lady so I was like.... "whaat th WHY?"

conference calls can be made to Loyola Stritch in May... thats my consolation prize 🙂 actually its pretty good that they are willing to discuss ur app with you, very nice of them, i might take them up on it if i'm not admitted to med school by then.

omg i'm so sorry i posted this on the wrong thread... lol this was supposed to be for Loyola stritch, SORRY guys.

I was thinking about UIC cuz I called them today too, but they told me the same thing that my status said "application in process" or whatever that is.

apparently they are considering interviewing till April if they feel the need to.

Basic science classes are graded pass/fail/honor:
U - Unsatisfactory
S- Satisfatory
O- Outstanding

The pass level is set for each exam by the course director (I believe). It's usually around 50-57%. The only real thing that is relative to your classmates is the honor level, which I believe is defined as 1.5 Standard deviations about the mean.

Clinical courses are graded a bit differently, but I'm not exactly sure how.
 
are there more seats at UIC cuz they have four campuses?

how many interviews do they still have left?

In Urbana-Champaign for first year, you are graded U (Unsatisfactory), S (Satisfactory), or O (Outstanding) in each of your 10 classes. The lecture courses set the Minimum Pass Level to 60% and they must be passed over the entire year, so it's possible (and not unusual) to mathematically pass a course before the final exam. Anatomy, Microbiology, and Immunology labs are set to a Minimum Pass Level of 70% and each must be passed individually to pass its corresponding lecture course, regardless of lecture grade. All courses must be passed or else you have to repeat the entire year (even the courses you passed) the next year.. which would suck.

In Peoria for second year, it works in much the same way (same grading system), except individual course units are blocked together and must be passed together as a whole. Therefore, you if you fail GI or Heme, you can still pass it if you do well on Endocrine (GI/Heme/Endocrine are one "course") as long as your total score on the three meets or exceeds the sum of the set minimum pass levels for the three. That works out well. The BIG difference from 1st to 2nd year if you go to Peoria is that the minimum pass level is usually 70%, not 60% like in first year.

In Peoria for third year, you are graded by your preceptor for your clerkship which counts as 2/3 of your total clerkship grade, and you take a standardized NBME shelf exam at the end of that clerkship which counts as 1/3 of your grade. Pass levels vary.. but this is much more subjective as most of your grade is based on a subjective analysis of your performance, not a multiple choice test.
 
Does anyone know how expensive the parking is in the lots they recommend at the Chicago campus? Do they offer parking validation?
 
Is anyone planning on going to the campus housing open house on March 13th? I don't plan on staying at a housing residence on campus so I don't think I will be going... but I just wanted to see if anyone was going or if any current students have anything to say about it.
