Is anyone planning on going to the campus housing open house on March 13th? I don't plan on staying at a housing residence on campus so I don't think I will be going... but I just wanted to see if anyone was going or if any current students have anything to say about it.
hmm...I didn't know that they were having this. How did you hear about this, if I may ask?

It was actually sent via snail mail to my permanent residence over the weekend. I had my mom type it up for me in an email so I could read it. Check it out and call them up if you're interested, it may have gotten lost in the mail. Here's what it said:

Dear

We would like to formally invite you and your family to join us for our fourth annual campus housing open house. this is your opportunity to gather info about living on campus, tour rooms before you indicate your preferences, and talk with current residents and stafff. we hope you can join us for this event.

Saturday march 13 2010
1:30 - 5pm last tour starts at 4 pm

this event is your only opportunity to tour all residence halls on all sides of campus in one day. plus we are working on having representatives from various academic and support programs available to answer questions and help you understand all of the resources available to you as aUIC student.

we traditionally have over one thousand people attend this event. if you want to see all ten of our residence halls, you should plan 2 hours for visit.

So I interviewed 9/22 and have been getting those "We're still thinking about it" e-mails once a month since then.

Has anyone gotten in after being put on "hold", so to speak, or am I just in a holding pattern until they reject me?

Is this basically a waitlist or do they just not reject interviewees until May or June?

Has anyone who has gotten an interview been straight-up rejected?

BTW, I believe whoever came up with this system deserves a special place in hell. At this point, UIC is likely my only chance at getting into medical school this cycle, and I've been blowing in the wind since September.

I've spent six months trying to figure out what I said during my interview that turned them off. I walked out that day feeling great. I would love to go to UIC...

God, I hate this process.

Hi VisionaryTics,
I am in the same position as you. I was interviewed on Oct 19th and ever since have been getting that email about hold...Thankfully, I have a med school to go to.. otherwise life would be hell! lol..

Ya I got invite just yesterday too.. quite unexpected and still a nice surprise.. I'm interviewing on 22nd in chicago.. apparently one of the last dates they have there.. still couple dates left in peoria and one in rockford. I wonder if they're just interviewing to fill up their waitlist at this point

yea i tried to ask the lady on the phone but she played coy lol but I will be there next week. She kept saying they're a rolling admission school implying I should take the earliest day possible so I just went with it. We shall see :xf:

Cool. You interviewing morning or afternoon? I selected afternoon slot thinking I'd get through tour, lunch w/ M3 & M4's and dean's welcome first before interviews giving me plenty of stuff to talk/ask about during my interviews.

Anyways.. I haven't got their email confirmation confirming my interview so I'm thinking if we're supposed to. Also, does UIC not give you the names of interviewers in advance??

UIC doesn't give you the names of interviewers until you get your schedule at check-in. If you are interviewing in Chicago, then you will have 3 separate interviews (most likely with an MD, a PHD and an M2 student)

I interviewed in the afternoon as well, and it is nice since you get to ease into the interviews with the tour/lunch etc, but just be prepared for a long afternoon. Good luck!

You should probably receive an email and/or letter in the mail. You don't find out who are interviewing with until you show up that day. Do lots of schools give you names in advance? None of the schools I interviewed with did.

So I'm still on the post-interview wait, along with a couple other guys on this thread, it sounds like. UIC definitely up there as one of my all-time top schools. I know it's very debatable whether or not letters of intent really make a difference, but I figure it can't hurt me. If anything, it might just bring my name of for conversation again, if my app happen to have fallen in the background you know, bring it to the top!

So I've written up a draft of a letter of intent for UIC and one other school. Obviously, since it's a letter of "intent," I'm not sending both of these out, but I'll decide on that part soon. I could REALLY use some feedback on what I've got so far. I'm debating about a few aspects of this letter, especially the overall length (I've heard all sorts of things on length recc's). In either case, I'd like to keep the letter at least somewhat more confidential. Would anybody here be wiling to give me some good feedback and pointers on my draft? Let me know here, or just PM me, so I can send you what I've got.

Thanks a lot. Good luck to everyone on hold now, too. I know exactly how you, painfully in limbo, heh. :xf:😀

Match day is Thursday, but we're still hoping they meet this week - no reason the good news shouldn't be only for MS4's!

I'm not sure how things work towards the end of the cycle, but I'd vote that you'd make it especially since you're interviewing in chicago. It's not like your interview evals have to travel very far 😎 I interviewed the Friday before a meeting and received a decision that Thursday night.

Good luck! :xf:

Hey There michiganpsych08

I interviewed 4 days before the committee meeting and was included within that meeting, so there is a high probability of that happening again!

I interviewed in February btw.

For all you that have interviewed already, do you know if there is student hosting? I am interviewing on the 22nd and I need a place to stay... I've spent TOO much money with this whole application process and I am trying to cut some corners here... any help?

anyone interviewing in rockford on the 31st interested in driving down together from chicago?

Pri84,

You'd be best off getting in touch with the Office of Student Affairs at the campus you're interviewing as soon as possible. They will send out an e-mail to the medical student listserv and someone can volunteer to host you then.

I've hosted a couple interviewees this year so far.. so I know people do it, especially this time of year when most people's Visas are maxed out from applications!! =P

Good luck!!

Interviewed on Tuesday and during the talk with the Dean he said they were meeting next week. Which I thought was weird since I read on here they meet every 3rd Thursday? Who knows 😕

I interviewed at Rockford in Jan, but I spoke with an admissions guys earlier this week and he said because of Match day, the adcom will meet on the 25th. Hope that helps!!

Any word on Urban Med interviews? I suppose I am being a bit optimistic that, 4 days after the deadline, they would start sending invites. 🙂

For accepted students, does anybody know when financial aid packages will be given out? I heard it would be sometime in March...

When I called the financial aid office just over three weeks ago when submitting my FAFSA, they said that we should hear back sometime in early April.

Should we have done anything else by now? All I've done is included their school fafsa number when I filled the thing out.

Hey guys, I'm interviewing 3/31. My interview ends at 4:00 in Rockford, does anyone know if I'd be ok to catch a flight at 8:00 at O'Hare airport?

Yes, that is plenty of time. It takes about 1.5-2.0 hours (depending on traffic) to go to Ohare from Rockford. Assuming you leave Rockford right after your interview, you should be fine.

Anyone know when they finish interviews? and has anyone gotten reconsidered by the committee and gotten in yet?

Are you coming to Illinois especially for the interview? If so, do you have a ride from Rockford to O'Hare? There's probably no active public transportation between the two during that time. You'd definitely need to either have a car rented or have someone drive you if you want to get to O'Hare on time.

anyone interviewing in rockford on the 31st interested in driving down together from chicago?

Hi NubQ, I am interviewing at Rockford @ 12:00pm on the 31st but because I am flying in from Boston I am not sure if I am driving from Chicago to Rockford or taking public transportation.

Can anyone that interviewed at Rockford as "out of state" comment on what was easiest to do. (rent a car and drive, take bus, or train?)

Also can anyone comment on student hosting or cheap hotels in Rockford or Chicago that they found to work nicely!

Any advice would be greatly appreciated, its my first interview of the season that is more than driving distance away! ... hopefully it is worth the effort! :xf:

My fiancee's status changed some time overnight to "A final decision was made on your application" and she was in the group that was deferred from last month - just in case anyone else in that group is waiting to check their status, you may have some news...

Still Decision Pending for me..

Interesting. There's also no date as to when the decision was made. The full text reads, "A final decision was made on your application on . Please allow two-weeks to receive the correspondence in the mail. If you do not receive this correspondence in two-weeks, please contact the Admissions Office. No decision will be given over the telephone." Maybe it's just a place holder?
