I received a phone call from Linda Singleton today. Unfortunately, I only got to my phone right now after business hours. On her phone message she did not mention anything about admission just that she wanted me to call her back. I later received this e-mail from her...

Please give me a call regarding your admission. My telephone number is (312)996-1633. I look forward to hearing from you soon.

I am hoping that this means that I am accepted. Can anyone provide any insight on this situation or a similar previous experiences. Any information would be really helpful. The thought of having to wait until Monday to find out what she wanted to tell me is really stressing me out. Thanks!

Read a few posts above!!! Someone else got a similar phone call and even got to pick their campus placement. Congrats! I don't see why they would waste a phone call on you to tell you that you are rejected or waitlisted. :xf: Here's to good news on Monday.

to answer the first question...yes you got in congrats!!!

and second... sorry but my placement is not official until they notify me so....not until i get a reply for my placement card (which will be mailed monday if the fat packet reaches me by tomm...)

will notify over here when that happens! 🙂

mybubbles: CONGRATS on UMed! I'm excited you will be joining us 🙂

ismaili: congrats on your acceptance!! was chicago your placement choice?

Question: if you had the choice between RFU/CMS and UIC-Chicago, what might you lean towards? I feel bad even asking, because I'm just so grateful to have gotten into both, but almost selfish in asking this. It's just a really tough decision, and I could use any advice I can get.....I'd want to visit the Chicago campus again to remind myself, because it's been so long, but I only have until Tuesday to decide, because I just found out that my petition for a site change to Chicago was granted....thanks guys

Hey Eva, don't feel bad! I know how hard it is to make a decision. I chose between my top two because of location and which was going to make more financial sense. Also, the opportunities for training were better at Chicago for me since I want to do Urban Medicine as a physician. Looking back, I KNOW I made the right choice even though school hasn't even started yet! In the end though, remember that there isn't really a wrong choice as both schools are good and attending either will still prepare you for becoming a great physician. Congrats on your multiple acceptances! 😀

ummm UIC...

I'm just curious, but how are you still deciding past May 15th?

Note: you are likely going to get biased answers around these parts 🙂

For those of you who got a call from Linda Singleton, is your status still, "decision pending"?

heh, I know I know but it's still advice I figure. I just found out about all this, RFU gave me 2 weeks to decide but then when I was switched to Chicago, I found out Friday, and she pretty much gave me until the end of the next business day, being Tuesday.

I'm gonna try to visit the campus again early on Tuesday if I can. Housing sounds kind of crazy to find

I recieved no call and I am still Decision Pending 🙁...Could this be the end of my hopes to attend UIC? Here's to keeping the faith just a little longer :xf::luck:.

Hey Coffeenottea---let's not get our hopes down. UIC (and most other schools for that matter) probably doesn't have a set schedule to make acceptance calls and the applications are most likely still being processed. I'm still decision pending---hopefully we'll get some calls this week! I'll keep you posted, and you do the same 🙂

Desiguyloyola! you are very correct. Keep in mind, as far as I know, UICOM has not even started an official wait-list yet since no SDNers have posted so. You guys are still very much in the game. There are also people holding a place here who are on waiting lists at other schools and I think at least one or two of them will give up their seats that way. You have waited this long, keep a positive attitude, and I really hope that something good will happen this week for you guys. I also recall that there were couple medical students down in Peoria where I interviewed who said that they were pulled off the waiting list at the end of June. I know it is extremely hard and frustrating, but don't lose hope!:luck:👍:luck:

To answer the original question, yes as soon as I got off the phone with her, my decision changed and she also sent me an email after that to confirm that we talked. It is funny that I had my phone turned off and she had to leave me a message which I did not get until about 4 hrs after she left me a message with her phone number asking me to call her about my decision. KEEP YOUR PHONES TURNED ON!

Thanks Sweetpea MD! They told me I can pick from any four and since I live in the city, I am going to try for Chicago..:xf: I should be getting the packet in the mail tomm...

Thanks for the kind words Desiguyloyola, I will keep you posted on any changes that happen (good or bad), but let's hope good. :xf:

coffeenottea and desiguyloyola, I am in the same boat with you guys. GL to all of us. I will let you know if my boat sinks or if I make it the shore for UIC. :luck::luck::luck:

Congrats to those of you who just got in. I bet that was an awesome phone call. 🙂

Well I interviewed in april...on the very last day of interviews at any campus...they called me three days before the interview to go down in poeria (the only place open at the time). If it is going to happen then it will (although I really hope it does) and if it is not, then it is not and there is no use stressing about it. relax and pray for the best.:luck:

It is a 312 area code...:luck:

hey to the 2 people that got in recently... that is hellah sweet to get a phone call--- congrats and thanks for the info and the updates, makes things easier.

Anyways, isn't June 1st the date they gave that they reserve the right to withhold final decisions til? I can't find that email.... Has anyone gotten any recent status changes? I'm still chilling out with a decision pending...

Anyways, congrats again and I'm going to write a poem or something about being on hold.....

I hope they still make more calls throughout the week. When I called UIC MedAdmissions they said that I should call back on Thursday to find out if final admissions decisions have been made or not. On a better note, I got my Summa Cum Laude honors certificate in the mail today---not that it's going to help me get into medical school at this point, haha! But congratulations to you for getting the phone call! For those of us who haven't gotten a call yet, hang in there guys!! 🙂🙂🙂

Someone wanna help me out on this one? I'm not sure how to evaluate residency matches, but at first glance, it looks like UIC-Chicago and RFU are about even, they each up each other in different, highly-desired fields and institutions (Mayo, Johns Hopkins, etc)

http://www.rosalindfranklin.edu/dnn/portals/18/documents/admissions/2009MR.pdf

http://www.uic.edu/depts/mcam/osa/careers/MatchData/2010MatchResultsbySpecialty.htm

They also both have upper 90% of their students getting into their top 1,2,3 choices, and score above the national avg on USMLE........so what the heck's the diff?

If you're in-state UIC is cheaper? And since they are very similar it seems, why not consider things like how long you are in class each day? What is the grading system at each school? Difference per school for year one and year two schedules? Etc...

Hey guys!

Could anyone help me out here? I need to know the address to where our transcripts should be sent. Thanks so much!

anyone heard of any post-interview rejections or waitlists yet?

Hey Tiptoe! No word here yet! I'm getting kinda anxious, considering people that interviewed before me already got their responses, but let's hang in there! I'll keep you updated!

Location would be a big thing for me, but I'm also interested in urban medicine. UIC is in the middle of the city, while RFU is actually quite a ways outside. I would say that *generally* UIC has a slightly better reputation due to more research, affiliated hospitals and schools, etc. Then again, I'm biased 🙂

I've heard it's satisfied by any non-hard science classes and you need at least 2 in the same subject. For example: 2 econ classes + 1 psych class. 2 history + 1 music theory class, etc.

Hey, I figured all you applicants from the 2009-2010 cycle could help me out with this question. So I am thinking about applying to UIC this cycle and I was looking at the website to check out prerequisites etc and saw the three class behavioral/social sciences requirement. Apart from psychology, anthropology, sociology, what other classes will they include in this designation? Are they pretty lenient in this category? I am not sure if I have fulfilled this requirement and if they will just trash my app if I apply without three behavioral/social sciences.
Thanks!

You can take the classes any time before you matriculate, including online or community college classes. They wouldn't accept my history or government classes - I was told all classes had to be in psyc, soc, econ, or anthro. I had to scramble to find a psyc class because they didn't notify me until last week that one of my classes wasn't fulfilling the requirements even tho I was accepted last winter.

status page. i think it was updated this morning as i was still "decision pending" last night.

well... decision pending is decision pending...wait until you hear something to move on from it... waitlist isnt much better....

last year i am almost positive that not one person was accepted from it. the only hope is that they went out of their way to not overaccept for this year, but the track record is not what i would call promising.

i will include one more thing though.... i knew before looking at it that a wait list is not great... but after checking the status page perhaps a million times, its somewhat therapeutic to see something different other than decision pending, so, if you're like me.... at least you have that to look forward to!

hey guys,

i just found out today that i am to be waitlisted and i am in the 1st half.

i talked to an admissions counselor earlier and they said that the waitlist is divided into quartiles (as some of the users have also mentioned on this forum).

i tried calling to ask whether i am in the 1st or 2nd quartile but the admissions office said i should call on thursday.

would any one have any info right now as to whether 1st half is a euphemistic way to say 2nd quartile or whether it means I could be in either the 1st or 2nd quartile?

also does any one have any idea to how many ppl fall into this waitlist category usually?

did the admissions counselor tell you that you're in the 1st half? or was it on the status site? or in a snail mail letter?

snail mail, on the uic status site it just says simply that i am waitlisted, the admissions counselor couldnt talk to to me today b/c its not status check day (i had spoken to her earlier before i found out about my waitlist status)

Got Chicago track today!😍
Now I get home cooked meals every two -three weeks! woohoo!!!

I received the snail mail saying that I am an Alternate and I have been placed in the 1st quartile. The letter then goes on to say that in the past usually the first and second quartiles have the best chance of getting off the list. So I will keep my fingers crossed a bit longer. :luck: :xf:

Hey Desiguyloyola, any word on your end?

thanks coffeenottea i guess that means i'm in the 2nd quartile, i hope they can get to both of us :xf:

Hey coffeenottea (and everyone else)---Waitlisted 🙁 I haven't gotten a chance to see the snail mail because I am out of town, but as soon as I get home, I will update you guys on the quartile. Good luck to all of you waiting as well! Congrats on Chicago, Ismailidoc!

🙂🙂🙂

Good luck to those on the waitlist... :luck:

To those in the Chicago campus, Linda Singleton's e-mail the other day said that we would be receiving our orientation info today on a website. Anyone received it/know which website it will be on?
