I think that I did well. Idk so did everyone else...lol so "so much for that"...

Nothing to add besides what omzy said. No ethics, no stumpers, and no reform questions either.

Anyways...

So laryngo how long did it take you to get your letter last year?

A friend of mine who interviewed yesterday said she was told notification by Thanksgiving... not sure if that was something they said to every group, but that's what she told me.

Hey thanks for the info!

I know when I received a rejection notice during RD last season there wasn't an email, only the snail mail. I think the email notification is only with EDP due to the need for a quick decision. I'd put my money on the snail mail notification, not email.

UTKD~ How did it all go?? Positive thoughts are being sent your direction!

BWSTW~ In regards to insurance at KU Med, I asked the deans about it during my interview day. The insurance is open to the family. It is group plan, so pregnancy is covered, and pre-existing conditions are covered as long as you've had continued coverage. Of course the deans spoke highly of their student health center, which is not only open to us, but also to our families for a "small copay." I did not push for a price, but I will try to relay any info I find your direction. Remind me if I do not.

Good luck to all!!

hey guys my MEDS says I got an interview! Not sure on the date; I have to wait for the email. Anyone else get an update?

Thanks! I'm group B on Nov 18th.

Good luck to everyone interviewing!

KSrez--- I got an invite today for group B on the 18th also!! So I'll see you there! Will this be your first interview? I have two next week so hopefully by the time KU comes around I'll feel better about the whole process 🙂

Grats on getting your interviews guys 😀

I honestly think waiting for a decision is the worst part. Constantly thinking about the little mistakes I made in my interviews. :scared:

Congrats and good luck you guys!

I second that omzy. This is much worse. You are helpless and there is nothing that you can do to help yourself. I don't like this conservative rolling admissions. Sort of defeats the point of applying early unless you just nail the interview.

Omzy -

I think the admissions committee will be highly inclined to get the results back before this next round of interviewees. I think the letters will be sent out the week of their interview. That gives them three friday sessions to vote and then send 'em out.

By the way... Why are we waiting on a letter? I don't care if MEDS says accepted into the class of 1945, why wouldn't the MEDS page update first like everything else?

I'm a reapplicant and I've already had one interview this year. Last year I didn't explain my experiences well enough, so this year I'm practicing more and hoping to nail it.

I agree, waiting is the worst part but try not to dwell on it. You guys will be getting your decisions when I'm interviewing hopefully.

Yep. You'll spend the next 3 weeks replaying those conversations in great detail in your head.

I don't have very good advice. Try to relax. Alcohol helps. :luck:

GOOD LUCK!

So laryngo how long did it take you to get your letter last year?

If I remember correctly it took about a month. As I think someone already said, they either tell you definitely yes, definitely no, or 'wait until the spring' within 30 days (3-4 Fridays' worth of meetings).

Ugh... So Omzy, what do you think? Will you get in, held, or rejected?

I have my days that I am one of the three and it just repeats in cycles.

Why can't they meet twice a week?

Information packets for people accepted via EDP came today in the mail. No info on health care, or financial aid either for that matter.

Does anyone know how the financial aid stuff works as far as when/if we meet with an adviser, etc? I missed most of the lecture on interview day since one of my interviews ran over, I also ended up not getting the handouts for the financial aid stuff.

Why can't they meet twice a week?

I've calculated my chances for each option through a series of complicated equations (not really):
35% accepted, 50% hold, 15% rejected

I try not to think about it but I always fail. I really think I've developed some sort of heart problem from this application process. Hopefully I get in next week and it clears up. 👍

Any advice on the best way to prepare for an interview without over-preparing?

Know your application well. Your interviewers have read it thoroughly and will ask specific things about your essays, be it either your personal statement or what you wrote on your secondary.

My interviewers seemed like they had barely glazed over the details of my app and just picked out a few points of interest that they brought with them. The "open file" interviewer I had only brought a pad of paper with a few scribbles, not my entire file.

So when is this next round of interviews? I know tomorrow is the first day we might hear something back for those who interviewed Oct 26-28 (2 weeks ago). I guess we might hear back anytime from tomorrow to 2 weeks from now. Did I do that guesswork right?

Hi. I've been following this forum for awhile and though that I would finally join and share my interview experience. I applied early decision and was not interviewed then but was given one of the october 26th interviews.
My open interview wasn't horrible. She asked me very general questions about my application and more specifically my experience. I work at a pathology lab in the gross room doing what pathology residents do. I thought that would be a really high point in my interview but she didn't seem interested in that at all. She did not respond at all to anything that I said which sort of threw me off. I wasn't expecting that. But I think that they are trained to do that for some reason. So don't let that throw you. Be confident in your answers; if they don't understand something they will ask for clarification.
My closed interview was an M4 and a physician. They were rough. They attacked my experience saying that pathology doesn't correlate to clinical medicine, which I never said that it did. They attacked my shadowing experience and said that it was "bad" experience. They asked me what I would want my patients to say about me. I said I would want them to say that I listened to all of their concerns, which I thought was a good answer. They attacked that saying that it may be too inefficient to listen well to all of their concerns! I think that they were pushing me to see how I would handle it and to see if my answers were consistent. A friend of mine had the same thing happen to her in her pharmacy interview. I think that if they doubt your intentions you need to be assertive and leave them without any doubt.
The main thing is to sell yourself with the open interview because they are going to be your advocate. I hope that this helps. I was just a little surprised and I think that my nervousness showed through because of it. Everyone else that I have talked to or anything that I have read on this forum all said that the interview was calm and relaxed and conversational but i think when you get one of those med students they sort of interrogate you.

I really hope it's this week. Sorry julies that interview sounded brutal. My interviewers had read my application in detail and seemed to be quite genuinely interested in my ECs. My ECs, however, are quite unusual and stand out. I had a ton of research and that wasn't even mentioned...oh well. I really tried to stay humble and stayed true to my application and desire to be a physician. My interviewer tried to back me into a corner on a position regarding what makes the best doctor and I stayed consistent despite an obviously easier route. He was quite impressed. Try not to talk too fast and take a deep breath. Lastly, don't be afraid to say you don't know.

wow, I'm sorry. your interviewers screwed you. they seriously probably jeopardized your chance of getting in b/c the interview is really important at KU. stories like yours remind me of why I hate KU admissions. they have some really good ppl on that adcom, but there definitely seem to be some *******s on there. the interviewers for the second interview are especially hit-or-miss. those interviewers change all the time, so it's not like the KU admissions office knows they'll be good interviewers. the adcom has to try them out for the first time with some unlucky applicant. if the adcom gets bad feedback about that interviewer, then I don't think that interviewer is ever used again. but, yea, that sucks about your experience. sorry to hear that. hopefully, everything will still workout. you'll know soon enough. 🙂

I do know that KU Med looks for ppl wanting to do primary care in Kansas. so...that's probably why they were grilling you on your pathology experience. they are right that it isn't real clinical experience, but they still don't have to come off as *******s about it. *sighhhh*

My buddy emailed Jason and got this back...

Just FYI, only letters will be sent so you can stop checking email and meds. The earliest letters will be sent today or tomorrow.

Wait, you mean your friend emailed and got his decision? Doesn't sound like good news. Aaagh..I hate snail mail.

"We will only be mailing that information. The earliest letters go out will be today or tomorrow."

Worded a little vaguely but I'm confident that it means that the earliest time letters will be sent is today or tomorrow...but i don't know how for sure that is. We might be waiting another week or so,,,,

Oh, I read it as "My buddy emailed Jason and got his back..."
My bad 🙄

all of the RD acceptances went out via email first last year. so, I'd expect an email before the snailmail. not sure your friend is reliable...haha

for this year with EDP, they also notified us via email first. sooooooo, pretty sure you should be checking your email! good luck!!

Regardless what anyone said/speculated/assumed, I would be checking email like mad 🙂

But that's just me.

I don't know why, but I'm totally expecting to be put on hold, although I've already made a long list of things to do if I get accepted. A rejection would be pretty shocking though. Not to say I "deserve" to not be rejected, but for all the work I've put in so far, it would be very disheartening.

Ya, a rejection would be devastating. I think i have really great shot at being accepted but a hold wouldn't be awful at all.

Next round of interview invites are out - scheduled for 12/2! 😀

I guess now I don't have to constantly check my MEDS page! I hear you on the "hold" issue, Omzy. The way that I look at it, the sooner I interview, the longer I have to wait until I have a decision!🙄 I'm pretty sure that I will be placed on hold status and have to wait until March anyway.

Best of luck to everybody - anybody interviewing on 12/2 give a shout out!

:luck::clap::claps::clap::claps::clap::luck:

Jaydoc24, you said that you "knew" the letters were supposed to be sent on Monday or Tuesday. Is this based upon the info I previously posted or did you get this from some other source? Jason's post was vague....ugh. He could've meant that monday or tuesday is the earliest possible date...as in right now is the earliest possible moment we could find out but it's much more likely to be next week or the week after...lmk

I know Veteran's day was there first but maybe if we just explained to them that a mistake has been made and it's really FIND OUT YOU GOT IN MED SCHOOL DAY!!! ...they might be willing to reschedule?

lol Omzy...sorry to steal your 1st on each page thunder. I didn't even look at the post #.

Aaaagh, my meds page says no items received, lol. I won't speculate...out loud at least.

E: Rats, I guess that always happens, back to normal.

I hope everyone who interviewed this month receives the good news today!:xf:

Why thank you, Moosey. 🙄 If no news today, at least The Office is on tonight. If it doesn't come out Friday KU has nothing to save them. 😉

This is true, the Office and 30 Rock are my favorite shows on the air right now.

I have been watching old episodes of the office too...

Dwight: "Depression? Isn't that just a fancy word for feeling bummed out?
Michael: "Dwight, you ignorant slut!!"

One of the greatest exchanges of all time.

I am going to check it now and at 3:45..

haha, when we're in med school...i don't think any of us will study on thursday nights. 😉

Mailman just pulled up right as I did. I'm just sitting in my car watching him. You'd think it'd freak him out....but hes probably Used to it in à college town.

I don't know how you guys are doing it - I'd have DIED if they did EDP decisions via snail mail. I live out in the country and my mail is usually 2-3 days behind everyone else.

UTKD - I can just see you stalking the mailman. 🙂 hilarious 🙂

GOOD LUCK!

😡😡😡

no letter...this is so frustrating...
