Sooo did you guys receive an email invitation from Michigan to fill out their secondary? Because I just logged onto their secondary app and it says they've gotten my LORs and are awaiting my secondary and payment... but I was never invited to fill this out like I have been with other schools. Thoughts?

Just a random thought. Why can't every school be as good as Michigan at applications. They're on top of their stuff, and they're fast. I can't think of a school that's got a better set up for their secondary, or application status.

IS, 3.9, 34. Blah, I'd rather have a rejection than this "you're not rejected but you're also not getting an interview" bs.

no LOR request there either...but I really don't consider them a safety. Being from Ohio, there are a few state school safeties here

UMMS admissions office said they haven't given out any non-automatic interview invites yet and that they'll start sending them out next week. She said the "preliminary screening completed" status just means you've been reviewed and that you could still receive an interview once they begin sending invites out. Just wanted to post that incase anyone else gets that status.

On a side note, has anyone else been reviewed and has a different app status?

Why is there only one date available for interviews? I think this is fine, but are they going to open any more up?

I think that just means that they are going to read the application and decide on an interview, i.e. no auto-interview. It's still really early, so I couldn't imagine anyone would be on hold!

Question: is there a status after complete that says waiting for review or something? Mine says "complete: under review" now, so I'm hoping that it changed from something before that, I just don't remember if it did or not.

I still haven't received a secondary, and I was verified 6/29...and my stats are probably above an automatic screen would be.

Edit: I logged in on their site (even though they never sent me an email) and it says "Interview Offered." Is this a glitch? I didn't submit a secondary... My stats are good (MCAT above 38, GPA above 3.9, Ivy).

Someone said a few posts back that they contacted the school and they will be moving this week in terms of interviews and from last status check at the school homepage it went from 61 out of 725 interviews given to 100 out of 725. And says updated 7/20...so I don't think it's auto invites anymore

1. Big Brother/Big Sister
2. Shadowing a local doctor of mine
3. Alpha Epsilon Delta (pre-med group) involvement
4. Hospice Care
5. Meals on Wheels
(or)
5. TaeKwonDo
6. iPhone Programming (that I'm just starting to get into)

I especially want your opinions on TaeKwonDo/iPhone programming because these two are unique in that they are not volunteering at all (feel that it's important to show you have hobbies) yet they fall under the scope of the prompt. Is it ill-advised to list those or.....?

Isn't AED considered academic?

Just because something is affiliated with a university doesn't make it academic. AED does community service and promotes clinical experience outside of an academic setting.

39 interview invites just went out. Before this week 61 out of 725 interview invites were offered. Now it is 100 out of 725 interview invites offered.

It's on their website. The biggest thing I love about Michigan is that their admissions process is completely transparent. I wish other schools were like that

Yeah, but on the other side of the coin, it's especially difficult to tell what your chances are at this school. The people they accept/interview is quite unpredictable. I've known a few people that were a shoo-in, but got rejected and few people that never thought they would get in but did (more so than other schools). Many of the undergrad professors and advisors at UM know this too, and they don't understand it either. It might just be an in-state thing, though.

Did anyone have an issue with the application that kept being saved as "yes" to the American Medical Women's Association eventhough you put "no"? It think it did save correctly for me when I certified it though. (Not that I have anything against the AMWA, or that I would consider it later... but you know what I mean).

Yes I had that issue, had to make sure that it wasn't selected...being a male student that would seem odd...

I know it is tough to relax going through this. I can tell you as a medical student at Michigan they will look and relook at your application. Auto invites are great but if you did not get one it does not mean you are rejected or have less of a chance. Like they say it is like a puzzle and each part including the interview is a part.

If they interview you they will have a spot to offer. They will never interview you just for the wait list.

Is it harder as it gets later? probably but you ALWAYS have a legit shot after the interview

I interviewed very late (meaning after January) and got in and not off the wait list.

lol i just got basically an ad for UM medical school in my email. it was like "congrats on your MCAT! please consider applying to UM medical school!!"

i already submitted my secondary and i would die of happiness if i got in, even though i know i have almost 0 chance. i grew up in Ann Arbor and lived there until last year, i miss it like crazy 🙁

I got one of those too. I assume they sent them out to people who applied to UM so it makes me wonder if its like "hey their mcat doesn't suck, let's encourage them" or if they send it to everyone even people who got a 15J on the Mcat and still felt the need to apply there.

I got the ad too, but I'm already complete at Michigan and so I don't know how much it means. Also, I got an ad at approximately the same time regarding another medical school and so I'm guessing that today was possibly a day that AAMC released our MCAT scores to the schools.

they are friendly to OOS. i'm technically OOS, even though i grew up in a2 and went to univ of michigan... not sure what "pile" i'm gonna go in.

my dad actually used to interview kids for med school at UM lol
