With the recent file closings, what, if anything, does it mean for an OOS who interviewed just last week and did not have their files closed?

Should such an OOS person have cause for hope at this point, to still be in the running?

If you interviewed, the aforementioned closings don't apply to you. They were most or all pre-interview rejections. No worries! ...yet, lol

hey vc7777! were u in dr liu's class? if so, i am also her student and am heading to case next year however i won't be at cclcm. i didn't realize what that program was until it was too late. congrats on your acceptance! i was also rejected from UM. no interview... off to ohio!

Hahaha...yes. Yes I was! Hmmm...do you work in her lab? I think I might know who you are too! 😉

PM me...We'll talk!

Good. Thanks.

I heard or read somewhere that UMich accepts about half the people it interviews. Would this apply equally to OOS applicants?

Just trying to get a handle on odds at this juncture, after interview but no rejection.

Dunno what this year's IS vs. OOS is, but here's statistics from 2007:

In-state admissions data: 1076 applied, 181 interviewed, 99 were accepted, 75 enrolled

Out-state admissions data: 4659 applied, 620 interviewed, 293 were accepted, 95 enrolled

Has everyone had their file closed yet? I assume I'm rejected but my page has had the "reviewed but will compare later" message since 8/6.

Can any current michigan student comment on Second Look and how it's structured/what generally goes on during that weekend? And how is housing during the weekend set up?

This year's numbers will be a little different since they only interviewed 650 total, but the number of acceptances I would guess would be about the same.

Does anyone know how many acceptances are given out immediately, and how many come from the waitlist? Right now they've offered 88% of acceptances, which must be 88% of the non-waitlist acceptances, right? Anyone know what the 100% number is? I'm currently waitlisted post interview, anyone have any idea of the prospects of post interview waitlisted applicants. I loved everything about Michigan.

I really like to know this too. I'm deferred post-interview till February. I had assumed the opposite of you, that the total number of acceptances would include those gotten off from the waitlist.

On my interview day they said they were giving out about 350 acceptances (not including waitlist people, just pure acceptances), and then from there usually after May 15, they have to begin looking at their waitlist assuming they haven't filled all 170 spots for the incoming class.

I was figuring that the % acceptance had to be non-waitlist, because its not possible to know how many people will need to be accepted off the waitlist, so they wouldn't know that its exactly 88% because they wouldn't know the total number of acceptances.

Does anyone know the general size of the waitlist, like 50, 100, 200? Also, does anyone know the statistic of what percent of the incoming classes are typically from the waitlist?

From last years thread, it seems that people from middle tier were accepted off the waitlist.

I also remember hearing that they were giving out ~350 acceptances on my interview day.

However, looking at the Accepted Applicant Picture Profile, there's 39 pages of admitted students (and 9 students/page), so it looks like they're already at 351 acceptances. Assuming this 351 is 88% of their non-waitlist acceptances, that puts their total number of acceptances this year at ~400.

For those of you curious, second look weekend is May 6-9 and white coat ceremony is August 1st!!!!

Hope to see you all there! 😀

Thanks medat! I'm going to try to be there although some people said that when they got the email about it, all of the slots were filled 😎
And how did you find out? I don't see anything about it on twitter or status page.

I'm not sure what email you are talking about and the slots you mentioned, but I asked the med students during the UM online chat last week. According to the med students, they haven't released any official details about the second look weekend yet, but they will over the next few weeks now that the whole interviewing deal is over and they have more time to focus on second look.

I didn;t get the email. That's just what some students mentioned during lunch when i interviewed.

So, according to twitter, today is the last AEC meeting... Good luck to everyone waiting to hear.

Does anyone know if that means the waitlisted people should be hearing about position soon? Or do they have a special meeting for that, or is that info already determined, and waiting to be released?

I'm thinking that meeting is just to make decisions about the last interviewees who interviewed 1/22.

Hey everyone according to the UMich twitter page decisions for those who interviewed 1/15 and 1/22 are up. I guess that AEC meeting was for the last 2 groups of interviews. I got waitlisted : (

Also, has anyone from the latest round been deferred to February? It would be interesting to know if they're deferring applications, or just straight waitlisting. I'm waitlisted too, Let's hope for waitlist movement!

So far no one on SDN since the December group have posted that they were deferred. Small sample for sure, but it's possible that they are straight waitlisting. In any case I guess we have some waiting to do. G'luck! :luck:

I was deferred-highly desirable. so I know they're not completely waitlisting. Also, how many kids get the highly desirable status? Is it 20 from an interview day or 20 from the entire cycle? Thanks

I think there had been 40 total deferred to December, and then 12 got accepted in December, mainly instate though. The remaining 28 were deferred to February.

So I'd guess maybe 50 now on the deferred list, including the January people?

New tweet:
"Admission team will take time to discuss defer decision candidates and wait-list construction -also will discuss increase in admit offers."

Made me very hopeful!

Week of February 15 we find out info about the waitlist. I love how Michigan always lets us know what going on. It makes me want to go there even more! Thanks Michigan!

My file is officially closed. Sad, but pretty much expected since I'm OOS.

Good luck/Congrats to everyone else 🙂

Hmmm, 95%, so there are 17 or 18 offers left of the 350 they said they were going to give out, and it sounds like they are considering offering more offers. If there have been no more deferrals, there are 3 residents and 25 non-residents still deferred. The numbers do look more promising this time around.

US News had 419 acceptances for class of 2012, so that probably means the 419 number includes waitlist/deferred acceptances.

Hopefully the 95% acceptances given according to the tracker is out of 350!

ok does anyone know whether all deferred candidates are highly desirable or just a percentage of the deferred?

Where are you getting these stats from? How do you know there are 3 residents and 25 non-residents deferred?

On the Twitter page, they said defferred would be accepted or high tier waitlist.

Info all coming from Michigan's twitter page.

Does anyone have any idea or speculation why they would be increasing their admit offers?

The primary reason to increase admit offers would be due to uncertainty that the current number would adequately fill the class. They may also need to increase the number of MI residents, and additional offers might primarily go to them.

If the US News numbers are correct, then in past years they've admitted many more than their stated number this year; maybe their estimate has turned out to be too conservative.

In any case, I wouldn't expect them to announce more offers until the date in March when they can see where the current admitted students have also been accepted, so they can tell what sort of competition they're up against.

hmmm, well I'm OOS, but who knows? maybe they'll need a bunch of out of staters and we'll all get in. think positive!

Does anyone know when the decisions are going to come for the February Defer decisions? And I guess that after that date, it's either waitlist or admission, no further deferrals?

Accepted this week! Any idea when financial aid info will be available? Does all info come out in March?

I believer Director Ruiz said they inform us about financial aid info in late March - the 25h I think.

Missed this post earlier, but it appears to answer our question regarding the number of acceptances offered.

Tracker is 95% now, so they've probably admitted around 379 so far.

So they just updated the accepted students picture profile and there's now 394 people on it (44 pages, 9 on each page except the last, which has 7). Also, according to this, 89 are Michigan residents

I have no idea if this 394 is 95% of total initial acceptances or if it includes waitlisted people.

Thanks! Although these numbers aren't too encouraging for this OOSer. How did you know they were Michigan residents? explicitly stated or from current location?

Looking from my notes during the interview, the last four years of waitlist movement were 15, 12, 0 and 20.

New Twitter Post explaining everything. Michigan is amazing! Thanks again Michigan!
