I got the 2nd look email this morning and registered about an hour after it was sent. Alas, it says all the spots are already filled. 🙁

Very disappointing.. I'm legitimately deadlocked on where to go right now. Understandably with about 400 acceptees, they can't make room for everyone. Just wish I was one of them. I went ahead and put my name on the waitlist. Hopefully others that want to attend second look got the email earlier than I did.

Yeah, I got the email on Tuesday and I immediately registered, but I never got a confirmation. Is this normal? Or do you just get a confirmation if it is full and they have to waitlist you for the 2nd look?

I registered yesterday and didn't get an e-mail confirmation, either. Sounds like based on what Bbon said, they would have told you if it was full.

I also just got the email to register for second look weekend. I am pretty annoyed... I realize they can't have 400 of us pouring in for second look, but at least give us all an equal shot to sign up? I have been really impressed with Michigan so far in the way they have handled this whole process... Maybe they should have two smaller scale look weekends??

I signed up on the 9th and have yet to receive a confirmation. I think this is normal.

Yeah, I'm also not happy (to put it mildly) about this. Why would they send separate batches of emails? Anyone have a clue how they decided whom to email first? Registration was filled a few minutes after I received the email this morning. I feel like they are just asking me not to go there...

Just got the e-mail this morning, and I think the Second Look spots were all taken before the e-mail ever reached my inbox. 🙁

I see from last year's thread that this happened to them too, several random batches of e-mails, with only the first batch getting a chance to sign up.

Does anyone know what else we need to fill out for financial aid besides FAFSA? Does Umich have a school specific form?? Is there a link? Thanks!!

Thanks! What do I enter for the password.. I dont think admissions ever told me this..

UMich kind of botched the revisit weekend sign up. I just got 3 e-mails that were dated from Monday, Tuesday and now Today. I guess those who got them right away get to check the school out again lol.

Same. Ouch. 😳

I didn't realize this email problem happened or else I would have copy-pasted the general link to this forum so you could all see and have the ability to access it at once. Sorry guys! Hope you all manage to arrange your own unofficial second look to give Michigan a second chance! 🙂

Yeah, I too just got an additional 2 emails dated from a few days ago. I just assumed Michigan was doing the emails in batches to give their "most prized" acceptees a chance to commit to 2nd look before the rest of us. Could still be the case, and even so, I wouldn't be bitter about it. Really disappointed is all. They have a right to use 2nd look as a recruiting tool for the most sought after applicants just like they would merit scholarships. Unfortunately, I was mostly waiting for the 2nd look to make my decision. Almost by default, I don't think I'll be able to commit to Michigan next year. It's tough to justify paying the extra $30,000 over my state school without seeing all the awesomeness they have to offer (of which the interview day made me think there was lots). Still holding out hope I can get signed in off the waiting list. Jealous of all you registered people!

I really think the emailing was random.. maybe even alphabetically down the accepted student list?
Regardless, the admissions team is trying their best to increase the number of applicants that can attend second look -- see the twitter below!!:

"Admission team meeting this morning to discuss the possible increase in size of revisit weekend--We'll know more next week.
37 minutes ago via web"

Hope they can increase it! Stay POSITIVE! 👍

Anyone know when Michigan financial aid award notices will go out?

Is anyone else addicted to the UM twitter? I check it religiously.. even on sundays! Pathetic, I know. 😳

Anyone else going to be taking biochem before August? If so, what are your plans?

I found a course near home, but before that I considered moving to Ann Arbor earlier in the summer and taking it there. I found information on being a guest student for the summer and their schedule at:

http://www.admissions.umich.edu/prospective/guest-nondegree/
http://www.ro.umich.edu/schedule/

Also, I'm sure if you asked the admissions committee, they could probably tell you what others have done in the past or what a popular option is

I'm taking it at NYU from May 18 - June 25. Biochem will be ruining my summer, but at least I'll be in new york city!

Do we all have to take this biochem class? or just for people who didn't take it during undergrad??

Thanks for the advice Bob and Medat! I'm planning on calling admissions for some advice tomorrow.

Has anyone met the pre-req with other premed/science classes which contained biochem material, but weren't explicitly labeled "Biochem?" I know I would need to present evidence that I've seen enough material for my other classes to count, but I'm wondering how commonly this is done... Thoughts?

Yeah, i never took biochem in undergrad (fear perhaps? haha). At least now I can take it this summer with less pressure - no possibility of affecting my gpa or messing up med school chances.

I know some past students have take online biochem courses, but that means you have to arrange to take a proctored exam. I believe UC Berkley's online extension school is one of these programs. Google it. I don't live in the US, so that's just not feasible for me.

There will be a chat tonight from 8-9, so you could just drop in and ask your question.
The link to the chat should be in the email Ms. Sandra Davis sent last week.

For those of you not addicted to the twitter... here's an update on the scholarships!

"Schedule Change: Scholarship Announcements will be on April 1 and not March 25. Need more time due to unusually strong candidates. 43 minutes ago via web."

How good was that recruitment video that UMICH sent in the mail? They are awesome!

Is it April 1 yet? Seriously, I want to know where I'm going to be next year!

Anybody know how good UMich's need-based aid is? I know they give out serious merit aid, but do they try to help people with low EFC's out? Any current med students out there? Thanks!

My mail must be really slow because I JUST got it! The video got me REALLY excited for the fall! 🙂

That was a sweet video, I can't wait to meet you guys and get started in August! It's gonna be an awesome 4 years... Go Blue!! 😀

I too am wondering the same thing. I guess we'll find out soon!

Question about scholarships: If we were to get a certain scholarship to Michigan and then go there and become a MI resident (so that we only have to pay in-state tuition), would we keep the same scholarship?

You can't become a MI resident for the duration of your degree program if you are OOS when you begin the program. Believe me, I wish we could! 😛

Yea it's really sad. My friend is a CO resident and went to a MI university for undergrad. He can't get residency even after being here for four years. I personally think that's a terrible policy.

Most states are like that, they don't want outsiders who haven't paid state taxes for x number of years to get their lovely IS tuition. Kind of frustrating, as the OOS tuition for schools can be ridiculous. (See Michigan State in particular) 😡

Hmmm... I think the only real way of getting IS tuition would be to defer your acceptance for a year, then move to Michigan during that year, get a job, buy a property, change your drivers license/car plates, and pay 2010 taxes.

Or you can marry a MI resident. $100,000 may be worth it. In fact you could probably post an ad on craigslist and see what happens..

hmm that's weird because you can get California residency for tuition purposes at UC schools.

Every state is different.
yeah I figured as much.. it's just that I figured CA would be more restrictive to this because it probably happens more often there. Well, looks like I'll need a scholarship to offset the CA tuition if my parents are going to let me go to michigan...
