I wish ya the best of luck. Give them a call back and see, i think its usually good news.

I interviewed last week and my interviewer told me the ADCOM was meeting this Tues, and he told me they call people if you're accepted, so I highly doubt it's a call to tell you that you were rejected.

well, i interviewed on the 19th. i suppose im in limbo, certainly not accepted though.

here's to the end of the cycle.

hey i dont know if any current USF med students check this thread but i have a question about housing...i know that they are going to give us some information, prob not a lot, in the next few months about suggestions on where to live...but do most med students end up living in apartment complexes where they you pay rent and everything or do a lot of them end up living in the 3rd party dorms...you know those companies that are basically dorms just off campus...i of course would only live with other med students...i dont want any undergrads heh.

just wondering because the nice places always go fast...whether its an apartment or 3rd party dorm...and so i really think march/april is not too early to sign up...

Most of my first year classmates live in either south Tampa (on the island to the east of TGH). I can't remember the name of it, but it is pricey and a commute from campus for the first two years. The others live north of campus in Tampa Palms off of Bruce B Downs. Still a little pricey, but not as much. I wouldn't suggest living west of campus, but a few classmates and myself live northwest of campus by a couple miles. I live in a complex made mainly for undergrads, but it's not that loud unless you live next to the pool. It's less than $500/mo including everything. I will live with a friend/classmate next year. You can try looking for someone renting a room in a house...I would have probably done that in hindsight.

edit: I don't even know what a 3rd party dorm is, lol. I doubt anyone in my class lives in one.

Thanks for the responses, guys! I guess I can tell my parents now. They would be estatic if I went to USF, and I didn't want to tell them I got in and then have to tell them later that I was just kidding.

medschoolnooooo, don't give up! You have better stats than I do, and plenty of people get in later. Seriously, don't give up hope.

The island is called Davis Island. It's the island that TGH is located on, and where a lot of rich people live. I believe Jeter (or some other famous baseball player) is building some sort of mansion there...at least that was the buzz at one point. I wouldn't live there though. Way too far from the campus and too expensive.

I think what he's calling a 3rd party dorm is the type of place you live...where rent includes everything and is geared towards students.

Honestly, it really doesn't matter where you live. Just so long as you are comfy and happy with it.

Basically there are two schools of thought:

1. Live in North Tampa (preferably away from the undergrads). Close to the school, but traffic can be a nightmare. Also surburbia, which is great for people who like it and hell for people who need the city life.

2. Live in South Tampa. Tends to be a little more expensive, but yes, you can find 2 and 3 bedroom apartments in the area that aren't trashy or too expensive. Also closer to the 'cultural' delights of Tampa and TGH. Distance to school is technically longer, but traffic patterns makes the time about equal to living north of the campus. Also, most people will move down to south Tampa for 3rd and 4th year - so if you hate moving, that's another consideration (unless you like a 45 minute drive to start and end your 16 hr days....)

So think about what activities are important to you, and if you want a newer apartment, a no frills apartment, or just need a mostly clean area to sleep for a couple of hours a night. Then you have to make the "to roommate or not to roommate" decision - which will mostly depend on if you are independently wealthy or mom and dad are cutting you a check every month.

Also, note that a LOT of apartment complexes change their specials EVERY WEEK here in Tampa - and they are not posted on the internet, so it's worth calling a place even if they look pricier than what you are comfy with.

Bottom line: take a day (if you can) and actually drive around looking at places. And pull the housing guide off the student affairs webpage and see where people did and did not like living.

You are only allowed to update your application AFTER you have been invited to interview.

Well, I updated it a week before I interviewed. Mrs. Kinsella said it was fine. Not that it made much of a difference. My interviewers didn't see any of the updates.

Thus why I said *invited* to interview.

No, not Davis island. The one to the east of TGH...they don't live on the same island as TGH. I forgot the name of it.

Either way, I have a private bedroom and private bathroom and wouldn't call what I live a 3rd party "dorm." Always been an "apartment" to me...and like you said, it is geared toward students, but anyone is allowed to live here.

Harbour Island? That's the only other island I know of down there.

And I agree, I didn't call them dorms, I called them apartments when I lived there. It just has the same concept.

Updates do make a difference, they will see them before they discuss your file, not necessarily prior to your interview because it takes some time to enter them into the system.

If I interviewed on Jan 12th and then got wait-listed, what are the chances that I'll actually get in?

I fell in love with the school during the interview and would really like to go there.

Do they do they also reject interviewees? or just accept/waitlist?

Be patient...there has traditionally been a lot of waitlist movement in May and June.

And yes, people get rejected, waitlisted, and accepted. But to be rejected you have to basically be an @ss to everyone. Or just be really weird.

Did they call to tell you you were put on the waitlist or email you? I interviewed on December 8th and have not heard a word since... 😕

I interviewed on Dec 1st and haven't heard a word either. I know that people have been accepted that interviewed after and I have no idea whats going on w/ my file.
I have called but the ladies in the office either cannot tell me anything or there is no information.
Anyone else interview on the 1st of Dec and still waiting?

they sent a letter in the mail last week.

thanks, hopefully I am one of the lucky ones.

The admissions office isnt too helpful after you're on a waitlist. They don't accept updates or new LORs that might improve my file.

No...because you've already been evaluated by the committee. Unfortunately it's just a waiting game at this point.

How does USF notify you if you are put on the waitlist or rejected?
I know you receive a phone call for an acceptance.

So its been ages since I interviewed back in october and haven't heard anything so I sent in an update. What I was thinking is that I was basically waitlisted without them officially saying that I was waitlisted but now that people are saying they were officially waitlisted It got me wondering. The only thing I can come up w/ is that after all the interviews are over with, they go back and review the files of people like me who interviewed and didn't hear and then send out some more acceptances and waitlist others (or at least this is what I am hoping). Can anybody provide some more thoughts or clarity on this? This wait has been agonizing since USF is my first choice, but it'd certainly be worth it if I end up with an acceptance

Is there anyway to find out my spot on the waiting list?

Probably not. It wouldn't even matter if you could. Interviews run until the end of March, so a lot can change.

Consensus seems to be that you may or may not get a letter. If you haven't gotten a letter, I would default to "post interview hold." I know it sucks, but hey, at least they didn't outright reject you.

You're update won't be considered, and in all honestly, will probably work against you since they have specifically said not to update the office except for the once when you are invited to interview.

And your theory sounds pretty reasonable. But no one knows.

they said don't update before you are invited to an interview, and it states don't update after you are waitlisted, and since I haven't been waitlisted seems like it was fair game, and I called and asked and she said the best way to update is through email, and she looked up my file and said it was fine to send an update. It was also confirmed the update was added to my file so I imagine if they didn't want an update she would have said so when I called, plus I think I remember them saying something about updates being fine during the interview altough it was a while ago so Im not positive.

I am in the same position as you and also sent an update. I asked if it was alright as well and they said it was. I also remember them saying at our interview it was okay to send them.

In that case, I'm sure you're fine. I'd take it as a post interview hold and just wait to hear something after interviews are finished.

Soooo...when does the ADCOM meet again? I know they met last Tues...

I'm wondering the same thing...I've noticed many people get accepted EXACTLY a month after they interviewed (not just on Tuesdays, someone got accepted on a Friday a few weeks ago). I interviewed 2/2 and hoping to hear from them soon too...GOOD LUCK! 😀

So in theory that means next week for you and the week after for me...UUGGHH! This whole process really tests my patience...and sanity.

I interviewed "forever ago" as well, and have not heard the slightest peep out of USF. I didn't send an update, so maybe that will work against me... however, I did get accepted to UM and UF... so whatever. I live in Tampa and would like to stay, but I am starting to make plans to move else where now.

This whole process has been an interesting one. I always had USF on my mind, but their apparent lack of interest is very clear. I think there is a lot of luck involved depending on your interviewers... I got this one guy at USF who royally sucked... My one friend, an MS2 at USF, said I got screwed and not to expect to get in! That was based on his experience with the same guy as his professor. LoL... oh well! All ya can do is try your best and keep on truckin!

Best of luck to ya all!

If you haven't heard anything, then they haven't made a decision yet. There is lots of time still.

Also, if your interview went so poorly, you should have requested a 3rd interview. That's on you at this point.

Must admit I am quite excited about the possibility of hearing back next week (Interviewed Feb 2 as OOS); any brave souls ever call to confirm that they are indeed meeting next Tues?

Don't. They aren't going to tell you, regardless.

I think that there needs to be some clarification: Once you've been interviewed, the medical student selection committee reviews your complete file and makes a decision. When the committee meets, and which applicants they review on any given day, is at the discretion of the committee and the committee chair, NOT the office of admissions. Once a decision has been made on your file, you will be notified. So if you haven't heard, then they have not made a decision. No one is interviewing for waitlist positions this year, which is good for those who interview late, but frustrating for the rest of you who interviewed before but haven't heard anything. Interviews run until the end of March, so many of you may not have a decision made on your file until April or May.

The absolute worst thing you can do is to annoy anyone in admissions while your file is still pending.

I feel like I've already annoyed admissions. What negative impact can that have?:scared:

It gets brought up in the decision process. It's usually not something that will make/break you. It is, however, a big reason why you should be polite and professional to EVERYONE that you meet during this process. Even though not everyone will have a vote on your file, you can be assured that they have the right and the obligation to let those people know if you come across as pushy, rude, or inappropriate.

Best wishes to everyone waiting to hear back! And congrats to those who've been accepted. 🙂

I'm a current MS4 at USF. I own and am living in a condo and am looking to lease it out to new USF students when I move on to residency this summer. I'm not sure what the rules are about posting this type of thing so I'll just leave it at that and encourage y'all to msg me if you're interested.

I don't check this forum on a regular basis so it's best to just msg me to get more info. Feel free to msg me if you have any questions about the program itself as well!

ACCEPTED ! Called 5 mintues ago. OOS. Interviewed FEB 2nd. Good luck to all and excited for second look in April 8 to meet my future class

Congrats, I interviewed the same day! Did you get anything in the mail yet? Hope I get a call today, but I don't mind being waitlisted either! 😀

No they said a packet will take probably another day or two to receive in the mail (No e-mail either). I almost am nervous it was a great prank call by a friend as I assumed they wouldn't be calling till tomorrow and especially not Monday morning bright and early....

I GOT ACCEPTED!!!!! AAAAAHHHHH!!!! They called me around 1pm while I was at work. I'm totally going here! Interviewed 2/9!

Congratulations to everyone who recently got accepted!!!! Cherish this moment, you deserve it! I hope to see you all at the Second Look in April 🙂

Congrats. Just so you don't get any big surprises come July, OOS students now pay OOS tuition for ALL FOUR YEARS. This went in effect for my class (2013) as it was put into law last summer (June) before classes started.

Congrats Allie! Isn't this your first real acceptance?! Thats so nice you heard back from them early, I am still waiting...LOL.

So is it bad not to hear anything from them since I got my "complete" email back in early August. I am OOS, so maybe that could be why.......
