got a hold here as well. lame.

To those who have interviewed this season at Drexel, what have your experiences been like? Thanks.

How do you know if you got put "on hold" do they actually update your status and say that?

Ahhhh WHY IS THIS PROCESS TAKING FOREVER

#1: breathe

#2: from what others have said, Drexel will update your status online/e-mail you to let you know you're on hold or will be re-reviewed or whatnot.

#3: keep breathing

#4: realize that every school is going to take a lot longer than you want to make decisions and some will keep you on the line all year. it'll make this year a lot less stressful. easier said than done, I know, but it's in your best interests not to develop medical school app-related panic disorder - the interviews you get will be a lot easier!

"No decision is currently available. Please continue checking this website for updates."

I think this is not a silent rejection. My status immediately changed to this after I was complete a few days ago. Good luck guys.

yeah i dont think it is trojan. i'm a cali resident too. we'll just have to wait.

Sorry to hear about the hold status, but on the bright side, it's better than a rejection. Perhaps send them an update/interest letter.

On another note, do you guys know if the student interview is weighted equally to the faculty interview or is the student interview just another method to learn more about the school in the student's perspective? Thanks!

The student interview carries a lot of weight. The adcom definitely gives it a great deal of consideration.

Where is everyone staying (or stayed) for their interview?

Thanks for your response, but I don't understand how the student interview can be heavily weighed when it takes place over lunch. Do student interviewers get equal voting rights at the adcom meetings like the faculty interviewer?

Student interviewers are given a rating/comment sheet to fill out after the interview. It is reviewed along with the rest of your file by the adcom. I've heard the student interview accounts for roughly 50% of the total interview, so you should take it seriously.

i was part of tuesdays interview group. i joked around the entire day and played pingpong during my student interview. you can never have too much fun... but I guess we'll see in a couple weeks if thats true haha

Definitely. While everyone was having a good time in the conference room, I hung outside of it having an equally good time talking/hearing about how goofy some of the ethical questions posed to medical students can be (because really they haven't been a problem since they were noticed and acted against decades ago) with a dean, only pausing to poke my head in and see if my interviewee had snuck past me from the shuttle yet.

If you'll recall physics, time is relative. Doubly so when you're waiting for someone on that shuttle.

But yeah, that's the right attitude. As masochistic as it sounds, try to enjoy as much of the interview trail as possible. When you're at-ease and having a relatively okay time, you'll shine a lot more.

JohnnyExtra is pretty much correct. As interviewers we're instructed to make comments to justify ratings. Those involved with the adcom have said bluntly that there are students at Drexel whose acceptance was swayed by the student interview. Also, there are students who did not get accepted due to the student interview. The impression I have gotten is that the student interview typically corresponds with the faculty interview. However, there may be instances where the faculty interviewer wasn't greatly impressed, but the student interviewer was, and vice versa. Or, the faculty interviewer had a good review, but the student interviewer got to witness "another side" of the applicant that was not good.

With all interviews, use common sense. Try to relax, but be professional in ALL your interactions.

The application process is stressful. I don't think there's anyone who comes away thinking that the whole system works like a well-oil machine or that it even makes any sense what-so-ever. But, when you attend your first day of medical school, you'll begrudgingly admit that it was worth it.

As always, best of luck!

My interview at Drexel was yesterday and I had a really good time. The other applicants were all very nice, my faculty interviewer and I got on well, and my student interviewer was great! All the student interviewers seemed like pretty cool people - ended up meeting at least a few and a lot of other students - which I guessed from those that have been helping out with their perspectives on this thread. Those comments were appreciated and very helpful yesterday.

The essay experience is really not that bad and you do have plenty of time to complete it. I don't know if it's been this way for others but our group was actually done by 2pm and people could have scheduled earlier flights home. Probably better to be safe than sorry though!

How long after being complete did those of you with invites or who have interviewed get the invite?

Where do Drexel students research? Also, I heard that a new research building is currently under construction... if so when is this building opening up?

Has anyone here received an interview invite with a sub-30 MCAT and +3.9 gpas? How long after being complete did those of you with invites or who have interviewed get the invite?

I got one with a 29 MCAT and a 3.8ish. I know there are others as well. Check out the "Any interviews with MCAT 27-29..." thread. Hope that helps.

I was complete for about a month before receiving the invite (which was by status update before I got an email).

Anybody who's interviewing at Drexel this Monday 10/4 interested in sharing a cab from the airport to Queen Lane? I'm arriving at 2:30 in Philly so PM me if any of you guys are interested. The total cab fair is $50 fyi.

Awesome, thanks for the advice glasshalfMD! I appreciate your input. You've given me hope with Drexel. 🙂

anybody who has interviewed willing to give examples of the essay prompt?

don't worry about the essay. it is a simple situation that asks u a moral question. and you have all day to do it. i think mine was 3 or 4 sentences long and I couldn't have made it longer if i tried

lol thats not an essay.. .3-4 sentences? seriously? thats sweet!

Hmm, I have nothing to do with the interview/acceptance process, but 3-4 sentences seems really short to me. When I interviewed, my essay just about took up the entire page, and that obviously panned out. It is by no means difficult, but the essay is kind of a big deal.

Don't freak out about it, but take it seriously. It should be an essay.

yah 3-4 seems particularly short - mine was half a page this year.

nafis64 - if u look back in this thread, people have given their examples

If it's supposed to be an essay then they should give you a question which actually requires a thoughtful response. My question was not essay worthy and also elicited only a short response (maybe a little more than 3-4 sentences but not by much).

Several others had questions which I could have actually written quite a bit about but my question was not like that.

I keep having dreams (nightmares?) that I show up for my interview and they say, "Oh, sorry, it was two weeks ago according to our system. We figured you just didn't want it anymore. Bye!"

Agh!

Hey guys...

Anyone who has already interviewed at Drexel, do you know when they will have a decision for us? I had the very last interview on Monday, and by the time I got back everyone was gone. Please let me know!! thank you!

What's the point of the essay? Is it to assess the applicant's writing skills or ethical decision making abilities?

Last week they told us "six weeks" until a decision. I don't know if that is accurate or an outermost time limit (like, don't bother us for at least six weeks).

Woah, Drexel has Saturday interviews? Saves me having to take a day off from work, but I hope interviewers aren't grumpy for having to come in on the weekend, haha. Complete 9/15, invite 10/6.

Last year when I interviewed it took exactly two months for me to get my letter... of rejection. This seemed to be the typical timeline - Drexel is notorious for is very, very slow turnaround.

Yes, we were told 6-8 weeks last week too. I don't remember where I heard it - it might have been from another interviewee or it might have been here - that they were trying to speed up their post-interview reviews. I'm just going to assume that what the dean told us is the correct length of time.

Interview invite! I was complete 9/13. 3.63 cGPA, 3.99 sGPA, 39O, IS and female.

I was actually worried they'd reject me because they figured I wouldn't attend if I got accepted (MCAT too high... I heard they do this), but I think the fact that I'm IS and female (both things they have a preference towards) played in my favor. Woot!
