They don't do silent rejections, I don't think. If you don't hear anything, it is usually because your application is at least floating around in the pile somewhere and they are yet to get back to it. I don't think they work through things truly sequentially. I was complete the earliest one could humanly be complete and I didn't hear until a month after my friends who were complete a month or more AFTER I was did. The major difference was that they were slightly stronger applicants.

Has anyone heard anything lately from admissions for the last month of interviewing?

My application was completed late (first week of October) and I am curious if they will even get to my application at this rate. I haven't seen anyone post on here about an interview with an application submitted later than August so I am beginning to think I should write them off.

When I called to speak to them about this they didn't have any new information to give me other than they will be interview through April.

Completed 9/13.
Invite for interview 2/4
Interviewed 2/14
Accepted 2/24

Don't lose faith, and not just because of my experience but because of your own potential! Have faith in your ability to succeed.

Or lose faith but don't withdraw your application. It is pretty exciting to give up hope and then get an interview or acceptance. 😛

You've been accepted to 7 med schools?! Wowza, and I thought I was doing well this application cycle. Congrats!

...or maybe that was a typo 😕

I wouldn't withdraw or anything like that. I just really want to hear back from them!

Lol iphone typo... Accepted to Uf and Ucf.. Only applied to 7 schools would b crazy if all 7 accepted me lol

I hear ya all...I was complete 9/30 and I'm dying for some instate love....I've interviewed at the 2 DO schools in Florida but haven't heard back from any of the MD schools.

UF and UCF tend to gravitate towards a different type of student than FSU. They seem to follow the more traditional GPA/MCAT format where they just go through and say yes or no real fast. I remember pretty much getting an email from UF saying that I wouldn't stand a shot and to not bother filling out the secondary. UCF never even sent me a rejection letter, so it is good to see they are actually refining things a bit.

I feel like FSU likes to interview the people they think fit their model first and then start going through and seeing about the others. Once again, I have no information to confirm that but many of my friends that were interviewed first seemed to be from certain areas, types of families or have ECs that leaned towards towards the underserved or community improvement. They seem less concerned with GPA and MCAT than other schools. It is probably what sets the tone for the classes where there is less focus on rigid academic medicine at the big centers and more on community and primary care. Granted, I'm not interested in primary care at all and neither are any of my main group of friends.

WhAt You said makes sense mosspoh... But it also seems like they review apps in chronological order and take time to review each one carefully instead of taking the ones with highest stats and reviewing them first.... Plus their secondary was pretty long and personal which would take a while to review....

Its a shame you guys start in mAy.... FSU was on of my top choices going into this bc i am very interested in rural medicine and working with the underserved now it is so late inthe game ive almost given up

Docjlud,
Since I am the one person you know who goes to FSU, I would advise you not to give up. Especially since I was the last person interviewed at the school 2 cycles ago. Send an update letter, send them anything, let's them know you're interested. And good luck Brother, congrats on both acceptances.

does anyone know if Ms. Urrutia will give you any information regarding where you are on their hold list? I was searching through last years threads and people mentioned that if you email her she'll give you an idea, but I just want to check with any of you guys to see if that was the case with this year

Got the checklist-incoming year 1

I have a question for the item 8 " Please complete and submit the College of Medicine Foundation Scholarship application before June 14, 2011."

Does anybody know what kind of scholarships are available and where (or how) to get the scholarship application forms?

bmlax13,

Last year I emailed Dana, and she said I was in the "high hold" group. In recent years, everyone in this group, and even some in the normal waitlist got in (so I was told). I did not get in, and I was told they had so few people turn down their acceptances. I imagine they are still doing the high hold group, so I would email dana. I also woulf imagine that if you are in the group you will get in this time, b/c they probably have been more cautious this year.

Hope that helps!

thanks alot knightlife, really appreciate it!

Offered interview last week. Had to turn it down, but good news to everyone else that they still might be sifting through the application pile.

I was told that no one has a rank right now. I must not be in the "high hold" group. 🙁

I was told the same. I'm pretty sure there are 240 people on the hold list who are wondering their rank also.

Meanwhile I'm just sitting hear hoping to hear something pre interview. I feel like this is essentially a silent rejection for me at this point. They didn't even properly answer my email request for status. I swear to god I don't get it. If they want to reject me shouldn't this be the time?

No medical school wants to prematurely eliminate good applicants, except of course for schools that get insanely too many excellent applicants: i.e Harvard, Hopkins, etc. Right now, I would assume the ADCOMS are working their butts off in order to send remaining interview invitations and compare newly interviewed applicants with on-hold applications. Not to mention, sending email rejections to a thousand + applicants is no simple task. I am sure not having an acceptance at this point is insanely frustrating, and my heart goes out to you, but you can't expect ADCOMs, especially those that employ a relatively small number of people like FSU, to snap to attention and respond to every email request.

If you believe your inquiry is important enough to merit a phone call I would definitely call up Dana to ask. She has been extremely helpful and receptive to all my requests and questions. Pre and post-acceptance I might add.

Good luck to you.

Guju,

When were you complete here? I know I was complete at the end of September, and other than URM, I haven't seen anyone complete that late get offered an interview yet so maybe they haven't gotten that late into the pile yet. I'm probably wrong but I'm just trying to bring some positive light.

Thanks for the good luck.

But you misunderstood.

I did call initially and they said they don't give status over phone and I had to email. So they emailed me but they didn't give a clear answer i.e. like your application is under review at the moment vs. has not been reviewed yet. Albany, on the other hand, which gets 10k applicants was able to tell me that over the phone by looking me up. Other schools did too. So I don't know. I was a bit frustrated cuz they could've just said they can't tell more instead of saying what I already knew that I was complete on the date I was complete. i don't know. It just didn't make sense to me.

But thanks, I know you meant well by your post.

For everyone wondering about how far FSU is in the application pile...I was complete 10/4 and received an invite in the first or second week of February, I am not an URM, but an FSU undergrad. Hope that helps!

🙁 ......hopefully they'll go back and look at my app again.....I've sent 2 updates and there's no school that fits me mission wise as much as this school.....just want that interview inviteeeeeee

Perhaps my radar is off a bit, but I feel like it's been quite a while since anyone posted about being accepted... Perhaps it's time to go to the hold list? I know of a great applicant who would love to get in!!!

I spoke with the Financial Aid Coordinator recently and she said the COM Foundation Scholarship application won't go out for a few more weeks so you can only, realistically, complete numbers 1-7 at the moment. So no worries!

has anyone been accepted off the hold list yet or does that only get moving after the mid-april time period when they are done interviewing? The only reason I ask is that I emailed them and was told the hold list isn't ranked yet, any help would be appreciated

According to the Financial Aid Checklist that we got on interview day, the scholarship application won't be available until May. Do you think there's any chance it could be available before then? "A few weeks" is vague, so I'm hoping that there's a chance the applications will be available sooner rather than later.

I know we can check our financial aid status through the Financial Student Aid Toolkit on Blackboard, but does anyone know when we'll know how much going to FSU will cost us individually? If the scholarship apps are due "before June 14, 2011," then it sounds like we won't know whether we're getting scholarship money until after we're attending, which isn't ideal, but... I just want to make sure that I have all the info I'm going to get before I make a final decision.

EDIT: I vaguely remember someone mentioning that we'd be guaranteed $1000 of aid or scholarship if we filled something -- I think the FAFSA -- out within January. Anyone else remember this better than I do? I feel very clueless right now.

I would like to know this as well. The reply I got from FSU was that the list won't be ranked until closer to May.

the scholarship(s) if you get it only cover for Fall and Spring. So summer you will be either paying out of pocket or though loans
So I would not worry about the scholarship, until you are accepted, you will have PLENTY of time to do them in during ORIENTATION week!!

it costs over $18,000 in tuition for me. so divide it by 3 (summer, fall and spring) and you are responsible for ~6K in tuition
($$ could go up) but >6K is a good bet

Remember to do 2010-11 FAFSA (this is for summer aid if you have done it already then just add FSU ID# to it) as well as the 2011-12 FAFSA.

Albany also has significantly more people working in the admissions office. 😉 The same few people most get in contact when they call are also the ones organizing the interviews, meeting the interviewees, contact the different interviewers for the day, organizing other random events, etc. It'd probably be good to hire a couple more people, but you know...state school.

It is just a policy thing, possibly for the state of Florida. Even USF's site has "All correspondence regarding application status is sent via e-mail using the email address you provided on your AMCAS application. For the best results, be sure not use a SPAM blocker or firewall."

Yeah no doubt USF's is now the WORST ever!!!!!

sad to say considering that when I joined this site and most people in years past knew me for my being for USF. But times have changed and administration changes have left a lot to be desired.

I will definitely say FSU's office was better then USF's in this respect esp. as they were not rude about it whereas many speak of bad experiences with people in the USF office these days and while they weren't rude per se to me they were less helpful then any other school I know of.

You're the worst I've ever read in those application threads, gujuDoc (whatsoever it means, though.)

I see nothing bad with USF, or any medical school admissions; neither before nor now... On the contrary, all of them getting more competent as time passes. But, it seems like it's your damn-self who has always been seeking "insider" information and "help" at each application thread. You're pathetic...:laugh::laugh:

It's really interesting that you don't tell us any of your details nor do you share your past/current application scores. But, you always ask many about their scores, why?

I don't want to see you a doctor for me or any of my loved ones. I cannot trust someone who is attending to USF Special Masters Program in order to order to use it to get her step into USF medical school, but then who gets real pissed off when she learns she was "probably" going to be rejected, soon. You don't deserve anything from USF, you're a shame!

You're aggressive and talking too much too useless. Please, calm down, and don't pollute the threads, at least from now on...

Says the person that hasn't applied yet and has been BEGGING FOR EVERYONE ELSE'S stats on these boards.

You will find others who agree with me including some on this thread.

And I DID NOT attend USF Special Master's program

Clearly you don't know anything about me.

You are the one polluting the threads. I attended a SMP out of state. I attended the Molecular Medicine MS program which is not the SMP. I was told literally by Suzanne Jackson to my shock that I was overqualified for IMS when I applied, though I don't agree with that statement by any means.

Don't worry though the feeling is mutual. I'd not want you as my physician either or my family's physician. You don't even know me though. So its moot point.

HUH???? I ask people about their scores??? I ask when they ask for advice. I don't think my scores or business are any of your business.

Most people post their scores on here out of their own will.

You are the one going on threads begging for people's stats of who ever interviewed. So bit of the pot calling the kettle black.

Mouth big brain small.. go check what you've been writing here and at other threads.. Let us know your scores here so that we next years' applicants would be informed more about the applications. But, hey, you're not that type of person. You have NO IDEA about what HELPING OTHERS mean!.. It never will make you a suitable applicant.

Shake your arrogance and annoying attitude, and stay out of the way. You're getting history!..

You're not a boss of anyone!.. You cannot tell what people can ask or not. Just walk your journey, which will end soon..

lets stop this lover's quarrel. please this is a resource for applicants. lets not use this as a proving ground for how much electronic machismo one has.

come on i think u guys are letting your emotions get the best of you. its been a rough application cycle but theres no need for this to escalate into bashing. we are human beings.

pea and potato samosa anyone? 😍

  That's why I PM'd them. I don't think this is the place for it.

Man I hope I hear from FSU soon and perhaps hopefully good news. Did anyone see the match results? They posted it. Looks like the 4 people I know in that class matched where they wanted to. 🙂

I'm happy for them.

Here's the link if anyone is interested:

http://med.fsu.edu/index.cfm?page=alumniFriends.whereTheyMatched

see thats fantastic. the bigger man walks away FIRST.

by the way, how tall r u if you do not mind me asking you?

I'm a girl as I've indicated but I know u meant it as a figure of speech. so I'll let it slide 😛

But I'm short and petite. lol 😉

hmm right right. i take it you dont want to quantify that statement. fa sho fa sho.

what r gujurati ppl like? are they sikh?

Nah the punjabi north indians are sikh. Gujus are hindus and jains and some muslims too for the most part.

Don't really think I've ever met gujarati sikhs or christians though. Though who knows maybe there are gujus who've converted that I don't now about.

Most are vegetarian unless they are muslim or not religious. I'm sure if u end up at FSU you'll met some. there's always guju kids every year at FSU med.

fa sho fa sho!

my desi radar tells me you are religious? are you pious?

Arew you desi? I"m only semi religious. Dad never believed in all this religion stuff. So we stopped going to the religious events but sometimes I wish I did continue and regret that I didn't.
Relevant post is relevant.

Yes I realize that I am contributing to what is annoying me but seriously. This thread is about the FSU application cycle. Lets keep it on topic.

Some interesting insider facts about FSU match list:
1. All 4 FSU students that wanted Ortho, got Ortho. In comparison, 1/6 matched into Ortho at UF.
2. A couple of FSU's Ortho applicants actually matched into Shands over other UF Ortho applicants. Big slap in the face in my opinion to UF.
3. Mayo Clinic Jacksonville has 10 internal medicine slots. They are a big name program and those spots are very competitive. 3 of those slots were given to FSU students. Most given to anyone school at that program in history I believe.

Most residents in these spots go on to very prestigious fellowships in Interventional Cardiology or Gastroenterology.

The word is starting to get out about how awesome FSU COM students really are 🙂.

As an aside, ceng2doc, this is not a forum for your adolescent rants. Take your crap somewhere else and don't shamelessly bash other applicants. Good luck next year in your own cycle. You will need it with that attitude.

1. That success of FSU could only tell a wise man that this year's graduates must be better prepared to match than those of UF's. There's nothing to do with the schools.

2. It's your best attitude that keeps you that awesome... Shut up, and keep your dirty mouth for yourself to talk to yourself in the mirror.

So you are arguing that residency programs do not look at what medical school their applicants are applying from? Every medical school trains their students in slightly different ways and has their own unique focus. I guarantee you that plays a role in what and where their students match. You have a long way to go young padawan (I don't know why I am in a Starwars mood today lol).

Anyways, I am not going to start a flame war with you as much as you would like one. Try to play nice and not alienate everyone on this forum. Some of these people could be your class mates next year or (I gasp to think!!) your mentors even!

May the Force be with you. Oh and GO NOLES!
