Do LOI's really help pre-interview??

Im still caught in the re-review limbo.. which i guess isnt as bad as it could be... but hope ot hear some good news soon!

I would call personally and ask-they may send you a request to send an update letter or letter of interest as a result. I know last year I was on hold after submitting within a few days of the beginning of the cycle. Eventually in January I received a notice to submit an update letter after inquiring about my status. Then in March I interviewed. Unfortunately class was pretty much full, and I was placed on a practically static alternate list.

Has anyone called to see how the alternate list moves? Is there any order to it? Has anyone sent LOI yet who were placed on alternate list? Is it better to have interviewed early and be on the alternate list? I need some hope. Three times doing this application cycle would be three too many.

I called a week ago and the lady said it varies from year to year. So no definite answer. Is not it too early to send LOI since they do not open up the alternate list till April 15? May be I am wrong?

In previous posts some of you mention you were put on hold where others say their status is 're-review'. What is the difference? Also how do you guys know the mass rejections went out?

I'm sorry to hear that. Did they tell you through email or snail-mail? GL :luck: with the rest of your apps.

Hey guys,

So I checked my status online and it says that correspondence concerning the status of my application has been sent to my email... I don't know how long that's been there but I haven't gotten anything in my email yet.

Did those of you who got rejected get this same status as well?
Should I call them up?

Thanks in advance!

I got the same status and I was invited for an interview day. (Which ended half an hour ago, phew!) So I don't think it means anything other than your status has changed.

I got this status update, but assumed that the "correspondence" was just the e-mail that my app was complete. They eventually gave me a call and it turned out they had been trying to e-mail me an interview invite, but, for some reason, it hadn't turned up in my inbox (or junk mail). So glad that it all worked out in the end.

Interview invite!

App submitted 10/16
App complete 10/21

They scheduled me for Jan 7. So excited! GL everyone🙂

I submitted my primary way back in july. My stats are decent hoping for an interview... I would really like to go to school in DC! How long do people usually wait to hear something back from GW?

when did you submit your secondary?

They got back to me after about 2 weeks of being complete, but give them another week or so and then contact them.

after interviewing, if you are accepted does it let you know on your status page?

thanks

I'm interviewing next week and still haven't heard back from the student host people. Have any of you had any luck or do you have a more direct email address? The admissions office just said they forwarded my email to the student host coordinator.

Thanks!

Here is a GWU waitlist thread from last year.

Doesn't say much about the odds of getting off the WL, but it'll let you think about how long you get to wait before WL movement....

I just have to say that the above thread is the most depressing thread I have ever read in my entire life! I really hope some of these guys are getting love this year. (it's a quote from awhile ago, but I had to share)

Has anyone heard back post-interview lately? Just curious what the typical turn around time is? I know they said it could take up to 8 weeks, but it seems that it can vary. I interviewed 10/7, so just wondering if it is possible to hear something soon or if I should plan to wait it out 4 more weeks...

I think a decision is looming. (Interviewed Oct 5.) Take a look at last year's thread. Most people hear back 4-5 weeks post-interview.

They notified interviewees who interviewed the last week of September this past Wednesday. So you should definitely be hearing soon

I just wish GW would decide already... I've been under "re-review" since early September. I (somehow) survived that wave of mass rejections in October, but still my status hasn't changed. Are they going to keep me in limbo for another few months? What's the longest someone has been on re-review and gotten an interview?

The friend of mine who is M2 and the person's perspectives who I am sharing with you even though i've been rejected from here was on hold til spring. Interviewed towards the very end of February.

So there are definitely some people who are in the rereview pile that don't hear til spring. So hang in there. Its not just for no reason.

Thanks for the encouragement! 🙂

hey obliquity,

im in the same boat got the re-review status in late sept so it must be a good thing hopefully we'll here some good news into the holiday season

You beat the first wave of rejections. So you are probably in the running still. Hang in there. My M2 friend didn't interview til the very end of February. Didn't hear of the invite til some point in Spring before that either. So you never know what's possible. She was a reapplicant to GW when she interviewed too.

So you never know. That may be you in spring.

Cool, good to know. Your friend's story is a good message.

GWU was one of the few that make a quick decision for me and put me on hold. Seems the ones with an official hold status did this quick (2-4 weeks), but everywhere else its been past 8 weeks and haven't heard a peep. So, I don't know if those are silent holds and rejects, or they are legitimately tied up with applications or maybe I got looked at but don't make the cut one way or the other yet with each group. The waiting is the most anxious part in this process lol, but I keep myself busy and really try not to get neurotic like some other people I know. I e-mailed an update last week, adding some new info and basically saying what I'm doing for this year now that my plans are settled.

Yeah I asked my M2 friend there and she told me she sent updates pre interview and post interview. so that's a good thing to do.

Thanks you gujuDoc & your friend for helping to inspire us. Do you mind letting us know if your M2 friend sent the updates/interest letter to the Dean or the general admissions committee? Also, did she use email/snail mail? Thanks! 😍

In the general pre-allo forum, there is a thread where Catalyisk (an attending and someone from the mentor forum) posted up a general guideline/template for update/interest letters. I forget the specific thread, but just search update letter and you can probably find it, since he/she also copy and pasted it to multiple threads that got started last week. He recommended addressing it to the admissions committee.

For GWU, personally I e-mailed it since the hold status says to do so if you have any updates for them. Most others I mailed, unless they specifically said they accept them via e-mail, and those who I e-mailed they all replied to me no more than a day later saying thank you for the update, they appreciate my interest, and its been added to my file.

I originally had an interview in December, but I called and got it moved to November. Hopefully that's a good thing. I have my interview tomorrow. I'm a reapplicant and interviewed there last March. Got waitlisted. I am truly hoping that it goes well enough that I can get accepted. I really hope the early interview pays its dividendz. I don't really have any other options besides Caribbean. I am pretty scared but I am trying to think of it as an opportunity rather than a threat.

Please let me know if you have any advice for me. I think that "being yourself", although a cliche, is still the best advice. So I'm just planning on being my honest self. My palms are sweating now.

Best of luck to every one! I go with peace. I love you all. Don't forget about me.

:scared:

Hey did anyone else get this registry email from GW? it looks like it was supposed to be sent to someone else (and the link didnt work?). im a bit confused 😕 to since I've already applied to them a few months ago... has anyone else gotten this or contacted them about it? im not sure if i should give thme a call?

lets hope they still have my application, they are like my #1 choice :xf:😍:xf:😍

interviewed 10/5...
waitlisted today.

ug.

Same...pretty upset about it because I thought my interview went well. Now I'm 3 for 3 on waitlists...guess I will be waiting a long time with a chance of not getting in 🙁.

That's not necessarily true. With multiple waitlists, especially if they're at schools with movement (and the high tuition schools tend to be those), you still have a very good shot. It's better than being rejected or on hold like most of us. Good luck! I'm sure in the spring you'll hear good news from one of your three waitlists, or anywhere else you may end up interviewing since you obviously have good credentials to get multiple interviews.

Hey guys.. also waitlisted with a 10/5 interview. Debating whether or not to withdrawel. Although GW was my first choice, I was accepted to another school that is much closer to my family and friends, and I'm starting to think that maybe that would be better after all...

If you don't think you will go, even if you get in--I think it'd be best to withdraw to make room for other applicants! God knows, we need every opportunity we can get.

Does anyone know if GW has a place to store your luggage during the interview day?

Yes, several people brought luggage to my interview and the host just had them leave it in the conference room. Good luck! 🙂

Interview invite yesterday after being in the re-review pool for some time (mid-august).

Just got the rejection letter minutes ago. Complete early july and have been on re-review since forever.

Pretty glad that schools are starting to reply!! my inbox has been awfully quiet for the past couple of weeks.

+1 Oh, well. I agree that it's at least nice to have SOME sort of news from schools...

ditto as well! glad they told me at least... one less thing to worry about.

Ditto here as well. I've been complete since late July.

It stings... it stings so much!

I from maryland so I'm going to stay at my parent's house... Didn't know they had a student host program... Sounds pretty nice

I am coming from Georgia and I have really like staying with student hosts during some of my other interviews.

I guess that rejection email was sent as a mass email, because I got it too.
