Congrats pseudodonkey!

I called PHX and was told that the committe is meeting THIS week, and no one should expect to hear anything until sometime later this week or even the beginning of next week. The person I spoke with did not know if any seats were available.

To all my fellow waitlisters, the movement this year is looking very similar to last year's so far. Hopefully this means we'll get as deep or deeper into the waitlist!
 
Hey guys I can't seem to find it anywhere on the school of medicine website, does anyone know when orientation is this year for the incoming class? Also does anyone know if they are staying with a graded grading system for the 2015 class or changing to pass fail? Thanks!

Orientation begins July 28th and the first day of class is August 1st. The orientation events have been posted on the orientation website and the special events site as well. This is all for Tucson.

😕 We are pass/fail right now, so I guess the answer is no, we will not be CHANGING to pass/fail but we will be STAYING with pass/fail 😀

Here is the grading policy according to the website. I see no indication of a change.
"In Years I & II, the student will receive a grade of Pass (P) or Fail (F) in each course. "

In addition to what everyone has said in the above posts to answer this question, one other thing is that once you are accepted you will get a link to the Class of 2015 information page. You need a password to access it, but it has links with information about orientation, getting your class picture taken, measuring for your white coat, filling out scholarship apps, etc. That should clear up a lot of questions once you get to that point 🙂
 
When is national decision day? I want to see some REAL movement!

Definitely - that website is really helpful. I have started working through the checklist of items. I hope everyone is hanging in there and gets good news soon.

It is snowing today...seriously. A BBQ I was invited to just was moved inside. I can't tell you how excited I am not to have this problem, at for four years 🙂.

We are officially more than 1/2 way to my waitlist spot!
 
I will get another waitlist graph up sometime this week and I will try not to make it so tiny.

This year the waitlist is moving just a bit faster than last years, though. They didn't reach spot #30 until about 5/10.

We are still following last year's waitlist movement pretty closely (they were at #29 at this data), so hopefully we will also see those huge jumps around May 15th!

My friend in his white coat, acceptance in hand
Had just settled down to hear me rant again
When out of the blue, my e-mail box pinged
..and my phone and my ipod 'cause I synced everything
Away to the desk, I flew like a flash
tore open my laptop and my friend heard a gasp....

Sorry, apparently I'm not talented enough to pick words that actually rhyme.
 
it looks like phoenix accepted some people off the waitlist on 4/26. anyone hear of any movement since then?

Met up with a faculty member I know yesterday who was on the admission's committee. He told me that last year they put in a lot of OOSers in the WL last year, and that resulted in a high # of students withdrawing around May15, resulting in a high WL number last year. Apparently the committee was disappointed about that, and this year since they had a record number of in state applicants, they put in a lot more in state students on the waitlist than last year. So he said he expected a lower number this year than last year. Now I don't know how true that is, and I don't want to dissapoint anyone that is really optimistic, but i want to report what I have heard. So anyone ranked above 65 should realistically look into reapplying, so they don't end up applying late for the next cycle.

Very interesting, thanks for the info. Though I have to say, I'm not a fan of them DISfavoring their homestate applicants in order to make themselves look good, but I guess that's what medical schools do.

I should clarify, that they took the same amount of IS and OOS students in their regular admission cycle this year when compared to last year. The only difference is there are less OOS students on the WL this year as opposed to last year. So they are trying to favor more IS students this year than they did last year. I dont know if its true but my hunch is because of the state budget cuts, they tried to get as many OOS students as they can last year, so they don't have to raise the IS tuition. They didn't get as many OOS last year as they expected, so they had to increase the IS tuition anyway, so they prolly dropped the idea of getting a particular number of OOS students. Interesting thing about UA-Tucson admissions is that they don't replace an OOS applicant dropping out with OOS applicant from the waitlist, as opposed to UA-Phx. If they did that last year, they might have gotten the number of OOS they wanted to offset any budget issues. But for some reason they opted to not do that, which is a good thing for IS students, since OOS students are more likely to withdraw than IS students.
 
#39 - accepted at Tucson on 5/13. Got the email around 10:00am.

Well, I'm sad to hear about the lower amount of waitlist movement expected :-( We're so close to my number! Well...not that close. But definitely closer than we were when it was at #2.
 
Another thing that needs to be considered is that the list came out later than usual this year, and if my memory serves me correct about 2-3weeks late. So if that is taken into account we are right on schedule, and there will be a lot of movemnt post May 15th so people keep your fingers crossed, but like someone mentioned earlier, if you initial waitlist ranking is 60 or higher you should consider working on reapplying (if this is the only school you are waitlisted at).
