what are all of you doing about the waiver/statement of confidentiality they want with our letters? our letters go through amcas. how are we supposed to deal with this requirement? what are you doing?

I think for UC Davis, it says that you don't have to sign the waiver if your letters are submitted using the AMCAS letter service

Oh also, what is everyone putting for the date field on the experiences list if your experience is currently ongoing? It won't take anything except numbers.

On the subject of dates, is it okay to put tentative end dates and estimate the numbers of hours we will have worked by the tentative end date?

I accidentally read "500 words," now it looks like I've got some heavy editing to do =( .

OMG i feel you. that's exactly what i did. 6 hours and a huge headache later i realized it was 500 characters. i wanted to shoot myself, but at least it wasn't the other way around =D

If anyone else from Cal is wondering what to put for the Chemistry, I contacted admissions and they said to list 3A/3B as organic and Chem 1A/MCB 100 or 102 as General Chemistry. If you're not from Cal...disregard this message I guess.

Cal's chemistry sequence makes life difficult for apps =/. Does anyone know if there's a thread or list of what each med school wants us to do for the chem req? I feel like after getting the same question from hundreds of cal students applying each cycle, someone would have made one.

The instructions for the application say "Please have each letter author or letter service include a signed copy or verification of having the Waiver of Access to Confidential Letters of Evaluation Form completed. This does not have to be done if your school's letter service sends its letters through the AMCAS letter service." I did not use my school's letter service, all of my recommenders sent in the letters individually to AMCAS. Any suggestions?

For the 3rd question in the secondary application about discussing any element of your application that you feel might be concerning, should I talk about my low MCAT score? I'm scheduled to retake in Aug, but have already received a secondary. What should I do? Just ignore it or not?

So is UC Davis' app due 30 or 45 calendar days from receipt of the secondary? One instruction tab say 30 days, the secondary instruction tab says 45 days, and the applicant status page gives a due date of 45 days from when I got the email. I am only getting nervous now because I am still waiting for one more letter of recommendation (I am sending 4 to Davis) before my school sends my packet to AMCAS, which will then send it to Davis. Do you guys think I could just send the three letters I have to AMCAS and then to Davis as a packet now and then just send the fourth letter when I have it? I don't want to miss the deadline, and I hear it can take a while to get through AMCAS :scared::scared::scared:

I would call them directly to inform them...That way, they're aware you made the effort to inform them that you may be a bit late.

just got a secondary invite from ucsf..but still no love from davis..🙁

So I have every part of this application filled out (including all essays), except this essay question that is somehow confusing me:

2. How do you feel your family, community, academic, work or other life experiences will enhance the UC Davis School of Medicine community?

For some reason I'm not sure exactly what they mean by "UC Davis School of Medicine community?" Do they mean how will you enhance the school (i.e. contribute to your peers)? I asked a friend and she said she interpreted it as how you will contribute to your patients during med school.

Mind sharing how you interpreted this question? Thanks, it's the last thing I need to complete on this app!!

I know this isn't very helpful but it can include whomever you want that you feel would be a part of the UC Davis community. that can include, but not be limited to patients, faculty, staff, students, etc...

I would choose an aspect of the school that interests you most, and what you feel like you can contribute to it. I chose to talk about the free clinics, b/c they have 7 student run clinics, and they are very service oriented. I would just try to be specific.

Did anyone else notice a status change on the UC Davis website?

This just popped up:

Interview Request Email Sent 08/01/10

Pretty stoked about it, but I never got an email. Anyone else have this same issue?

Congratulations!! As of this moment, my status is still "Completed". I was complete as of 7/13 though, at night I think..that was when I sent in my paperwork at least. I'm probably in the un-interviewed boat...just because of my application haha.

Congrats! What are your stats?

Is anyone having trouble scheduling a date? It's been about a week and the applicant portal still says no dates available... is this just mine? Anyone know who to contact about IT issues?

Yep I've had that status for a while. I think they are sending out interview invites, but haven't finalized the interview schedule. I'm just checking the site once in a while to see if anything changes.

For the 3 experiences is it ok to repeat the experiences I used for my personal statement? Or should I use other experiences that have also been important in leading me to medicine ( in order to avoid redundancy)?

I think I mentioned 2 out of the 3 in my PS, and all were in my AMCAS experiences section.

Got an e-mail interview invite this morning (2 hours ago)! Don't quite remember when I was complete... I think before July 23rd.

found out through the status portal. 😍

fyi, I was complete around 7/15.
good luck guys! :luck:

Guess no love for me from Davis....even though I was complete early on.

Oh well...

interview invite!
complete 7/27
good luck everyone 🙂

damn ive been complete since 7/18 and no word :/ uh oh...

hmm that's weird then wtvr. i gotta stop checking these threads it drives me nuts when i do

Nothing here, complete since 7/14. 🙁
its not a big deal guys seriously. If you dont hear back by like jan next year then worry. The 1st interview dates arent till sept and they still havnt had a chance to go though every app not even close. Everyone should calm and not worry🙂 itll be a long year. Also just fyi for you all. There are people who interview in sept and literally do not hear ANYTHING until around june the next year. No waitlist, no rejection, no nothing. Just silence for 9 months or so until you may get accepted. Look through last years thread it happened quite a bit. UCD does things oddly so just sit back and enjoy the year the best you can. For most of you getting this 2ndary or other UC 2ndaries, its going to be a successful year whether thats in CA or elsewhere.

UCD is an awesome school good luck 🙂

Elijah, they emailed us that they are working on MMI for interviews this year. Do you know anything about this or what to expect? Thanks!

I'm in the same boat as a lot of you, complete 13 jul and not hearing anything back...I honestly would assume that it's a bad sign, but based on what Elijah said, I guess we can't fret YET....

Hopefully we get interviews, but if not...it isn't the end of the world..unless it was the "only school left on our list" *sigh*

Let's just hope Elijah is right about it, and there is randomness in this process!

Right with you, July 13th and no news. Hopefully we have an adcom that is reviewing slower than the others and we'll get some invites next week :xf:

For the love of "god" I hope so! haha.

sigh...got the "R" email. No love from UC Davis. G'luck to the rest of you.

Interview Invite today! Completed 7/23.

Its funny I was driving to San Francisco and passed by UCD, I was thinking...man would I love to go here. 10 mins later, I got the email on my iphone! ITS LIKE THEY HEARD ME!

I received the following today:

"Dear :name:

Admissions Year 2011:

Thank you for applying to the UC Davis School of Medicine.
After careful consideration, we are unable to offer you a position for the class entering in July 2011. We received applications from a highly competitive pool of nearly 5,000 students like yourself. With only 105 seats available, the Admissions Committee faced an extremely difficult task.
Best wishes for your future endeavors."

Good luck to the rest of you!

Sorry to hear that, i'm sure everythings gonna work out fine.....me having the same stats as you makes me pretty worried now...

This was the first screened secondary I got! I got verified late for the primary so I was surprised to see the secondary in my inbox on Saturday.

I'm so bummed to hear about those of you that are getting the big R from Davis 🙁 I assume I'll be in your boat once I submit the secondary, and then I'll be here to commiserate with you.

Complete 7/13 and rejected too 🙁

What a bust, starting my second cycle with two rejections and no interviews.

I am in a similar boat. Keep your head up and continue to push through.
