Do you know if we get accepted to PRIME if we have to do it to go to UCD? Or can we choose UCD without PRIME? In other words, do we have a choice to do PRIME or regular MD if we get in to both?

I am from the SJ valley and I'd like to know this too, but I feel like the answer is- No you wouldn't get a choice. I wish it was a different app. I want to apply to both independently.

Anyone with some inside info know the answer?

I know one person in our class that applied prime, was subsequently rejected from prime, but then was accepted to regular MD. I'm not an expert but it looks like prime candidates are by default also regular MD candidates - I don't know of anyone who had the option to choose between the two though. I guess you could always drop out of prime if you were unhappy with it down the road, but I'm guessing the school wouldn't be too thrilled about your decision. Hope that helped a little 🙄 I recommend calling the admissions office, they are generally pretty straightforward. Good luck!

I didn't send a thank you note after the interview. I don't think UCD would expect thank you notes especially considering that it would be impossible to remember the names of interviewers and that they don't accept letter of intents.

Thanks, SnowShoes!! 🙂

Anyone know anything about the UC Merced PRIME interview? Any tips for the UCD MMI?

I don't know anything about the UC Merced PRIME interview, but I interviewed at UCD. We really can't go into any specifics of MMI, we literally signed a confidentiality agreement. But I can tell you it wasn't nearly as scary as I thought it would be. At times, it was even fun! Everyone is extremely nice and just wants you to relax. Good luck! :luck:

Anybody sent thank you notes after the interview? If so, do they have to be on special paper?

It seems that some schools expect thank you notes while others tell you explicitly not to send them. I was wondering if anyone knew about UCD's policy??

PS: I already have them written, I'm just debating whether or not I should send them... ?

If you already have them written, then you might as well send them. It's a nice gesture and can't hurt your chances. Besides, what else are you going to do with them - make confetti?

Hahaha, yeah I had already sent them. They probably weren't too necessary, but I guess it couldn't hurt. I just wrote a short letter to a few of the people I had spoken with (none of the interviewers since I obviously didn't have time to catch any of their names), thanked them for their time and mentioned I really liked the school.

Anybody know how they send out decisions post-interview? i.e. email, letter, online status, etc?

So my supplemental application has been complete for Davis since August 23rd. I have not received any word as to interviews yet. I e-mailed Davis regarding this, to which they simply said that no decision has been made to my application yet. Seeing as how it has been over a month, should I be worried? Should I consider this to be a "silent rejection", or should I at expect them to reply somewhat soon, whether it be to invite me for an interview or just outright reject me?

Thanks.

I would chill out, dude. I've been complete since 7/29. Still no word. I have no idea what it means, but I haven't been rejected (to my knowledge) yet 🙂

+1 except 7/13 people have gotten rejected so....

no idea, but I'm dying to know. My perception is that acceptances tend to come via snailmail, but I could be wrong and it could vary from school to school.

Do you remember them saying that they would send out decisions on Oct 15th?

alright thanks guys. good to know that i'm still good.

Oh really?? I had just assumed final decisions come via email... Seems like most schools communicate via email these days. Anyone know for sure how they inform you of final decisions post-interview? I check my email obsessively, now I'm going to start checking my mailbox too lol.

At the interview, they informed us that they will be notifying applicants of their final decision about 2 weeks after their interview. However they can't tell us before Oct 15. But it seemed like if your interview was 2+ weeks before Oct 15, that we'll pretty much find out on Oct 15.

Historically, UC Davis notifies students of acceptances by phone call, then you see it reflected on your status page online as well as by email. Waitlists and rejections are done by email only, I believe.

Thanks. Anyone know for sure what they're going to do this year? Now I have to stay close to my phone...

I'm pretty sure it's a phone call from Ed....at least that's what it's been last year and all the years before!

There was like 1 person at my interview (out of 20) who was OOS.

I'm sorry to hear that, were you rejected pre-secondary or post-interview (if you don't mind me asking)?
post-secondary

Anybody know what dates are open for the interview? I signed up for Dec. because that was all that was available but I would love to interview earlier if possible.. do you think we can call and see if an earlier date is now available?

For the people who interviewed already, were your interviews one on one or was it the speed dating type where you go to the 10 different stations and do mini interviews?

they were the speed-dating type of interviews, officially called multiple mini interviews. It's quite popular in Canada, but only UofCincinnati and Davis do it in the US (to my knowledge at least). They will give you a description of the format once you get an interview.

I thought it was pretty fun and that it graded applicants more fairly since everyone gets the same scenarios and you are graded as objectively as possible.

UCLA is switching over to MMI as well.....

I feel like everyone who all ready interviewed (myself included) are going to find as soon as humanly possible if we got in or not cause Davis is really trying to speed things up this year. Do you think they will call us on Friday (the 15th) or do they have to wait till the 16th?

I interviewed Oct 8 and Dr. Sousa said they would be meeting later this week as a committee. But he also asked us all to do the post-interview survey quickly so they could review our apps starting the next day.

The website says they'll let most applicants know within 2 weeks. I'd keep my phone on for the 15th if I were you! I'll have mine on 24/7 for the next couple weeks.

On a side note, they said at the interview that they're going to extend 105 acceptances and 100 wait-lists (out of 500 interviews).

They did mention Oct 15.. and I also got the impression that for everyone who already interviewed, they'll let us know ASAP starting Oct 15.

Do you remember them mentioning on interview day how they were going to contact us on final decisions? Previous years say they call us if we're accepted, but I was wondering if they changed it this year...

I am going to be glued to my phone starting Oct 15... I'm getting so nervous!!! :scared: This is definitely a top choice school for me, so I really hope I get a call!! :xf:

I absolutely loved the school when I interviewed here in September and would love to go here. But the wait has been killing me. I've been getting more and more anxious as it gets closer to Oct 15th. Being OOS however I do not want to get my hopes up 🙂

Ed said he would call us if we are accepted. Wait-listed people and rejections will be sent through email or the UCD message system.

Yeah, this is definitely a top-choice school for me. I was surprised how much I liked it and I think it's at the top of my list now (wasn't before the interview).

Eek I am sooo nervous!!! Friday cannot come soon enough! I've been counting down the days...so anxious.....

I'm actually interviewing on Friday the 15th so it should be interesting...maybe they will tell me the decision right then and there or call as I'm driving home 😀

I believe it is likely that they know right after we finished our MMI whether you will be accepted or not. MMI assigns a score to each applicant and they just pull the top x% into the accepted pool. Going back and individually reviewing an applicants file goes against the whole point of MMI which is to create a standardized rubric to assess interpersonal skills. That explains the quick turn-around time this year. It also seems that everyone is on the same playing field after interview invitation unless this MMI score is somehow added to an AMCAS score that they make. This is what I have heard from med students at Davis and some is speculation.

So I got swamped with work and did not complete my secondaries, is it even worth sending them in anymore? I was somehow consoled by the fact that some of my friends didn't even get their MCATs back until two weeks ago, but now I'm really bummed about not having sent them in.

sorry to hear...do you mind sharing a completion date?

Just got an email from Davis saying AAMC pushed back the date schools can notify applicants to this Monday, October 18th. Dang it! I wanted to know tomorrow! ugh! More waiting 🙁

Me too!! When I saw an email from UCD, I nearly had a heart attack!!! During the 30 sec it took to open up the email, I thought it was a rejection (since it seems they call those who are accepted). I'm so relieved it wasn't a rejection, but sad that we have to wait some more.

It said: "We anticipate notifying you some time between Monday (Oct 18) and through early November." I really hope it's sooner than later!!

Hahaha me too! When I read "Thank you...", I thought, "Oh no! No email that begins with Thank you ends well."

Does this mean other schools will also push back their notifications to Oct 18? I was really hoping to hear back from a couple tomorrow.

Have you done any secondaries? How much do you want to begin med school next year? If you really want to, I would suggest applying to a lot of schools and dedicate a lot of time to secondaries. Applying late will be a disadvantage, but maybe it just means you get wait-listed & accepted next July at a bunch of schools where you could have otherwise been accepted in October.

PS if you read through these boards you'll notice that a lot of people are still filling out secondaries.

HAHA i had the same reaction. And right after I read the first line, my phone started lagging so I couldn't read the rest of the email for a good 15 seconds- longest 15 seconds of my life

Has anyone who completed their app in September gotten an interview yet?

I was complete on Sep 10th... still no word...

I completed my secondary on 3 Sept and I interviewed last week. I applied to the UC Merced-PRIME program, so they may have reviewed me earlier because of that.

Me too...complete 9/4 and no news. Seemed like earlier in the season interview invites would be offered around 3-4 weeks.
