Hey does anyone what Davis's policy is for letter of appeals to rereview a rejected application? Do they just outright say no appeals or actually read it first?

I sent an appeal a few weeks ago and when I didn't get a response I sent a follow-up email asking for confirmation that the appeal was received. The response said "you will not receive confirmation".

So I'm thinking they don't do the appeal thing...

I was accepted on 11/18 (late posting 😀)

Interviewed 9/10

Feels good to have "passed" the MMI 🙂

Great facilities at this school, and Dr. Henderson makes a great impression! 👍

Congrats rHinO1 on the acceptance!

And just a heads up to anyone who got an Interview invite lately there's a spot that's open for 2/11/10 interview. I've been waiting since Nov 11th to sign up for an interview date and just saw the opening.

I was completed on 9/25/10

Got my Interview email on 11/11/10

Interview date: signed up for 2/11/10

Anyone from the 10/22 interview hear back yet?

has anyone who interviewed 10/15 heard anything yet? good or bad?

Interviewed 10/1 and still no word. At least now the calls have the extra function of serving as an early Christmas present.

Interview invite today! 😀

Does anybody have any recommendations for hotels nearby? Preferably cheap 🙂

I got my davis interview invite back early October. However, the only slot that was available for an interview was for March 11, 2011 (the last day). They probably assign interview dates.

Davis is probably my number choice at this moment and has anyone been able to change their interview date earlier?

I went online to see if I could switch days, and it doesn't really give you that option. Oh well, since we're interviewing the last day, maybe we'll be extremely memorable. 🙂

I guess if you really wanted to change it, call them up and see. Either way, good luck with the interview! Davis is the only CA school I've heard from so far so it is also my number one!

Do we need to bring anything to the interview? Thanks!

A pen if you want to take notes. They will give you an info packet. There's not much down-time, so don't worry too much about bringing a book or homework. They gave us water bottles and lunch. Maybe bring breath mints?

Yup! Got the invite on Halloween. Hopefully by that time the adcoms will be so sick of the process they'll just say, "screw it, let 'em all in!!" 😉

finally heard from davis, been complete since 8/14...reeeejected

I was complete last month. Got the interview invite earlier this month. My interview is scheduled for this coming Friday, 12/17. The MMI has me nervous. Sounds like the kobayashi maru :scared:

Stats: 33P, 3.4 undergrad, 3.9 Masters, OOS

Congrats, especially with such an "early" interview date considering that you were invited in early December.

Don't be nervous! The MMI is actually really great! You don't have to worry about what you're going to say, or which stories to tell to let the panel REALLY know who you are. You just walk in and do your best at the stations. Rather than having to TELL the panel how you interact with people, respond to stress, work as a team, etc., you get to SHOW them, which is infinitely more powerful.

Then again, maybe it's not that great. Just got the thumbs-down a few minutes ago by email. Interviewed 10/8.

I just got the rejection email too. But Davis was my first interview and I knew I botched the MMI. 😛 Here's to hoping some other California schools show me some love!

I was so hopeful on reading your previous post, then quickly disappointed when I read this one. Sorry to hear about the rejection.

Is there any part of the interview day that resembles/involves a traditional interview?

I'm trying not to care too much - my best interviews happened when I didn't care. Kinda like a date; pretty girls and ad-coms can smell fear.

it's really hard to answer your question without breaking the confidentiality agreement that we signed on interview day, but try not to stress too much. it's really not that bad.
plus, you should get an email from Davis with plenty of details about the MMI when it gets closer to your iterview date. good luck!

I'm sorry to hear, but good luck with other schools!

May I ask when your interview date was?

Just called Ed, he said he can't tell me how many interviews are still available because they're considering adding interviews.

The rest of the day is just like at any other school, it's just the MMI part that is different from a traditional interview. You'll get an email with more details, and a sample question. Just remember that the whole point of the MMI is that you can't possibly study or prepare for it.

As for me, I'm just :xf: to get in somewhere else. Davis was the first of four interviews scheduled so far, so with any luck, I'll still be med-school bound this fall. I'll admit I was really surprised to get a rejection letter at 8pm on a Sunday, though...

I also just heard that there is some internal political stuff going on with the adcom. Don't know if that may have had something to do with it... 🙁

By the way, I went to UCD as an undergrad, so if anyone has questions about the local area, feel free to ask me. I'm more than happy to answer anything I can.

to theMan2012:

In response to your question about hotels, I think you'll like "Best Western Med Park Inn & Suites". It was located within a 5-minute walking distance from the admissions office, where you'll need to meet in the morning. Also, they offer you free lemonade and cookies in the afternoon, and the rooms are nicely furnished. As far as costs go, I believe the pricing is fair. My room came as part of a package, so I can't give you the exact numbers, but it should be reasonable. The only thing you need to watch out for is that the eateries surrounding the hotel close rather early; so, either eat an early dinner or order delivery. Because I didn't know this, I ended up ordering a pizza from pizzahut for my dinner after the interview out of hungry desperation.

You will not need to bring anything to the interview, for they give you a packet full of information. However, it's always a good idea to bring a pen just in case. You won't need lunch money either. The lunch they provided was one of the better ones I have had during my interviews. Props!

to MikeyP:

I agree with what has been said above. You're interview is coming up, but you have nothing to be worried about. In a way, the MMI is rather fun, and the people at Davis are incredibly welcoming. Go in there and pound it!

For anyone who has been accepted/wait-listed/rejected: has your status changed on the secondary application page? I fear that I'm obsessively & compulsively checking my status daily for nothing!

PS I know they'll call or email me when they decide...but what if I could find out a few minutes early?

I interviewed Nov 19 and still haven't heard anything back.

If anyone has interviewed could they please put their interview date and what their current status is.
It seems like only people who interviewed in Oct have heard back

I am also interviewing on Friday & also haven't received the conformation email...I'm assuming they are just slow with getting it out because of the holidays!

I am also interviewing for Rural PRIME on Friday. Does anyone know the structure of this interview?? Is it also MMI or is it more tradiitonal?

Thanks! 🙂

Everyone participating in the process is required to sign a very strict confidentiality agreement. See my earlier comments for some thoughts on the process, but be aware that we are strictly prohibited from divulging ANY details of the process.

Here is an article from the UCD staff newsletter (yay for google) with some information on the process.

http://www.ucdmc.ucdavis.edu/facultydev/pdfs/FacDevNLDec10_Jan11_pages.pdf

I didn't get the email with the full details until 10am the day before my interview so don't stress too much, I'm sure it's coming.

I doubt, though, that the school would have an issue with it if I forwarded the info to an applicant with an upcoming interview (especially one coming up so soon!). PM me your email address and I'll forward you the .pdf packet they sent me before my interview.

I interviewed for the UC Merced PRIME program. I assume the Rural PRIME interviews will be similarly structured. For the PRIME interview day, we started with a presentation on the purpose and structure of the PRIME program. There was a one-on-one interview and then a "group" interview--basically a group discussion. Be prepared to discuss the problems in rural medicine, possible solutions, etc.

The second day was like a normal UC Davis interview day--not everyone there was applying to PRIME. I didn't get the MMI email until a day or maybe 2 before the interview. To tell the truth, the email won't really help you. But no worries, MMI was kinda fun and needs no preparation.

PM me if you have more questions and good luck.

got the acceptance call this afternoon 🙂 SO excited!!

interviewed oct 22.

Rejected.

Interviewed 10/8, UC Merced-PRIME applicant, IS.

Best of luck to the rest of you!
