According to last year's thread, they do consider letters of appeal. The lady on the phone also said it is possible. But I think a blank status is a glitch more than anything; I read in this thread that someone got an invite after receiving a blank. Hopefully yours isn't bad news like mine. Good luck:xf:

Yes, undergrad application . . . those were definitely the days!

For those of you out there with blank statuses like me, I just called the lovely lady in admissions... she said if you've been complete for a while like me (submitted 2ndary the day it came out) and your status is blank, it means you've been reviewed but haven't been offered an interview at this moment. She says its not a hold, not a rejection, and to be patient.

Ha I could have told myself that. Sometimes you just need to hear it from someone else though.

Has anyone else received a decision on their status page after a Nov. Or Dec. Interview date?

I interviewed Nov. 1 and got waitlisted as well. Super disappointed. Does anyone know what percentage of students UCI accepts initially and what percent go to the waitlist? And if the Waitlist has any movement usually?

~30% of interviewed get accepted directly after the interview

~30% of interviewed get accepted after being waitlisted

~40% get rejected post interview

This is my understanding based on US News data and what I was told at my interview day.

Having interviewed here the last two years and been alternate listed both times, I can tell you that it is actually closer to 25% get accepted right away, 74% waitlisted, 1% rejected (you really have to mess up to get a rejection right away, Dean Peterson alluded to this during the interview as well)

I actually didn't mean rejected immediately post interview, I meant to say rejected eventually at some point post interview.

According to US news, UCI accepts ~59% of the people they interview (either post interview or from the waitlist). So, when Dean Peterson said approximately equal numbers are accepted immediately post interview and from the waitlist, I just did the math above.

I just wanted to weigh in here.

Last year 512 were interviewed, 275 accepted, 104 matriculated.

There are 14 interview days with (typically) 30-40 applicants being interviewed each time. Approximately 1/3 of the applicants on each day are accepted immediately. The remainder are normally put on the waitlist.

Let me know if you have any questions =)

Only 14 interview days!? Dang that doesn't leave a lot of options.... and with 40 applicants each time? How do people who have already interviewed think about this?

This is the current U.S. news stats for 2009:

4603 applied, 511 interviewed, 297 were accepted, 104 enrolled

haha not a big deal? yeah it's a lot of applicants on one day, but it shouldn't really bother you, at least for me it didn't.

Around what time were you all done with your interview days?

Good luck on upcoming decisions!

I think it was pretty dependent on interview times. I was done just after 3PM I think. I'm pretty sure others were done earlier and I thought I remember hearing that someone even had a 4 o'clock interview...but I could be getting that confused with another school; however, there's definitely some variability in when you can finish.

Hmm, I seem to be getting the feeling that UCI is rapidly running out of interview dates. Does anyone know how many dates are still available? I still am hoping for an interview here!

well 12/13 was the last date I saw. They'll have more all the way until March. Do you have IS residency in Cali raffle or are you from Alabama? It's pretty difficult to get an interview at UCI if you're considered OOS. But they haven't run out of interviews.

Lol, oh that. No I'm from Cali. Had a bit of an anonymity phase going a while back and forgot to change it back to California :d. Well, that's good to hear. I know Davis is about full up on interviews. Was still hoping for some Irvine/Los Angeles love, would like to stay in Cali if possible. This brings up another point actually - has UCI given any pre-interview rejections yet, or are they more the silent rejection type?

I want to say they have given them out. Check through the thread. Maybeeeee.. I forget. They should have more invites to come. I'm pretty sure.

Just got the admit call this evening. Interviewed on Nov. 1st. Really hoping for the PRIME-LC acceptance later this week (#1 reason for applying to Irvine). Hope more calls are on their way!

Accepted!!!!! got the call this afternoon as well. First acceptance, sooo excited!
Also waiting to hear from PRIME-LC 😀

Hi guys and gals,

I recently interviewed at UCI and I had a very interesting faculty interview. We spent about 5 mins talking about my application and spent more than an hour talking about random things, jumping from one topic to another; such as politics.
I was just wondering if this is normal for a faculty interview and please feel free to share your experience?

Also, the dean of admin mentioned that we can call her or her admin team if we have any concern about our interview. I was just wondering if this falls into that category.

Thanks in advanced.

gl0baltrader ..something very similar happened to me but my faculty was asking me about my grades and my mcat score and about my family and finances the whole time. It was very interesting. I was considering emailing the dean but not sure.

My faculty also asked how i'm going to pay for medical school and about my family as well. I wondered if we have the same faculty interviewer.
Let me know if you decide to email the dean.

thanks

How does the PRIME-LC application process work? Are you first admitted to the regular class, then they look at your PRIME application and decide to admit you? Or do they look at your PRIME application before offering you an interview? I'm really interested in PRIME-LC, but I have not been offered an interview at Irvine. I'm just wondering if they'll even consider my PRIME essays pre-interview. Congrats on the acceptance and good luck with PRIME-LC!

Irvine will definitely read your PRIME essay with your primary before offering an interview. In fact, those who indicate interest in PRIME have a third interview specifically for the PRIME program entirely in Spanish. However, you need to get accepted to the SOM before you can be accepted to PRIME. When the dean called yesterday, she informed me that the PRIME committee would be reviewing accepted students for entry into the PRIME program later this week. Hope this helps and :luck:

Got another call this afternoon. Accepted to PRIME-LC!!!!!!!!!!! 😀 AHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!! sooooooo excited!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 😍

Congratulations Phosphokinase! Nice sn, btw.

I was wondering if anyone could weigh in on my situation.
I submitted my secondary 8/13 and my interview status is still "Pending Review". I have called the admissions office multiple times (spaced out, of course, so as not to be annoying), and I am told each time that the staff knows nothing more than what I see on my own computer screen. I believe them, but I'm just wondering what might be going on with my application. Here are my current hypotheses:

a) My app fell into the space between two desks in the admissions office.
b) My app fell into a shredder.
c) My app was used by scientists at irvine to determine the heat of combustion of paper.
d) All of the above.

Of course I'm kidding, but does anyone have any thoughts?

Thank you!

Don't feel bad bro, I submitted 7/26. Hold on!

+1! Were you one of the Los Angelenos I spoke with who interviewed on Nov 1st? Looking forward collaborating with you next fall! The PRIME program just seems amazing.

I don't think so, I'm not from the LA area (I'm from northern CA) but I did interview on Nov 1st 🙂 I was kinda running around the whole day so I didn't get to talk to many applicants. Were you at the PRIME-LC dinner?
I can't wait to receive my packet in the mail to know more details about the program but it is AMAZING 😀 :luck::luck::luck:

Interview invite today! I was complete way back in the middle of August, so don't fret yet if you haven't heard back!

Btw, the available dates left were 1 in Feb, 2 in March and 1 in April (!).

Also, AFAIK, my status never went blank and was always "pending review."

Congratz! You got MAD Cali love. Reading your update definitely kept my hopes up :xf:

Unless the interviewer was totally inappropriate, I don't think discussing things off the subject is considered "concerning." Everyone has their own way of getting the information they think is most relevant to an applicant's eligibility.

You wouldn't have liked my UCLA interviewer. I got grilled about a B-, asked about my relationship with my little brother, practically told that my complicated childhood was a hindrance to medical school, and then was treated like an idiot when I couldn't name members of the Senate Committee dealing with healthcare reform, even though he couldn't either. 😱

Thank God I'm going to UCI. 😉

GOT THE CALL TONIGHT! AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH I'm so excited!!!!!
Interviewed 11/17. Good luck to all those still waiting! :luck:

congrats starfish. if you don't mind what were your stats? or you can pm them! thx!

Interview invite today! 🙂 Complete 9/27, in-state. Available dates were two days in March and then April 4(!)...

Seems like quite a few acceptances have already been issued though...do you guys think March/April interviews are for waitlist spots? 😕

That is realy strange....the admissions office isn't even open today. If you look at the other posts in this thread, each day has a 30% acceptance rate. The rest are on waitlist....or something to that effect.

Congratulations!

I have a friend who interviewed in March last year & were accepted right away. Congrats on the invite 👍 & good luck!

Congratulations!

We'll get back to school Jan 3, the admin office probably won't be open until then. In response to the later interview day.. No, you're not interviewing for a waitlist spot, the 30% quote applies throughout the year, you'll probably get this reinforced during your interview day talk. Good luck!

Thanks coloredcrayons for your post, but I think you meant to quote the poster that I responded to lol.

but maybe you can answer a question I have---how was an interview invite released when the admissions office is closed? I go to UCI and I know most offices are on administrative recess--although I do know people go in/out despite the break--it's just strange that an invite got sent out during break...

My bet is either (a) a random status page discovery (this happened to me, no email was ever sent, thank God I checked compulsively) or (b) a busy admissions elf. I attend another UC and know that the "campus closure" does not prohibit professors (et al.) from going to work 🙂

ha yeah my invite as from (a) random status page. I assume that's how the person found out. I believe UCI's admission is closed.

sorry, you're right i answered too many questions in one post. in regards to the interview invite, i agree with the posters above. the only extra info i can add is that i've stopped by the building where admissions is and everything has looked closed to me *shrugs*. in any case, i wouldn't worry about the timing of the invite at all. everyone should be back monday though so you can get your questions answered then 🙂.

Thanks for the reassurance, everyone!!! LOL the holiday elf theory made me laugh! They do send out e-mails for interview notifications; I got mine at 6 PM on Dec. 28th:

Dear _____, It is a pleasure to notify you that the Admissions Committee for the University of California, Irvine – School of Medicine is inviting you to interview as a candidate for the class beginning August 2011.

Please visit the status page at http://www.meded.uci.edu/Admissions/ (password _____), and click "Schedule Interview." You need to carefully read the instructions before you select an interview date. Contact [email protected] if you have any problems.

We look forward to meeting you.

Sincerely,
Office of Admissions and Outreach

I think it's computer automated because my inbox says 6:00 on the dot. Either way, I am thankful! 🙂

The admissions office get swamped this time of the year and they often work strange hours.

I remember when I was a first year and we were being told who we would be interviewing the next week they were often sent out in the middle of the night or over the weekend.

Our admissions office works very hard and works all sorts of hours. One of the many reasons you should be very nice to them!

I withdrew yesterday. Great school, great location but I think I will be heading back to TX (or to AZ). Cost of living was just too much for me here in CA.

Good luck to everyone. Hope my spot goes to one of you.
