Hey, thank you UF2099. I just have a very quick question. Why there is only one guy here posting about acceptance. Did they call ~50 acceptances this afternoon? or it just gets delayed, and will happen next monday? 😕

Hey SDN,

I know you guys are all probably freaking out right now because it's 10/15, but don't go too crazy! 🙂 I interviewed August 31st, 2009 and didn't get accepted until the end of May, 2010 off the continued candidate list. I was placed on the continued candidate list in October.

Also, I just wanted to let you all know that I am available and happy to answer any questions you might have about Pritzker. Feel free to ask them here on the message boards or PM me.

Best of luck to everyone!

Unfortunately, I don't have access to any information about the exact timing of when the admissions office has or will be accepting people, but I am happy to answer questions about the admissions process or Pritzker in general. Pritzkerpodcast.com is also a good resource.

I'm a girl. 🙂

Buuut there is still plenty of time left for you to get a call!

Yay, got an interview invite for UChicago. Complete 9/27, interview invite 10/15

I'm really excited, this is my third interview invite, my stats may be lower than others but I suppose with an invite, they looked past that to the whole package. Good luck to everyone!

Complete 10/12, now my status is "Application Held for Later Review" with the note "Your application has been placed on hold for further review later in the application process. In the meantime we encourage you to keep us informed by email of new academic and extracurricular accomplishments."

Does Chicago end up interviewing a significant number of people they put on hold?

About 10-15%.

I've been complete for almost 5 weeks now, and why is it that people who were complete after me are being informed of their decisions before me?

One of many questions that you'll likely never get an answer to that makes sense. Don't worry about it too much - I know it's hard to get ansy about it (this is happening to me at multiple schools), but it's out of your control.

I think they talked about this in a podcast -- when you apply, a certain faculty member gets your file and reviews it. Some may review it more quickly than others, and when they get really busy (i.e. now) it may take a while. This is also why one person may have a 3 week turnaround and another has an 8 week turnaround. It is also why they can sometimes be rejected/invited within days of submitting very early in the season, when they aren't super busy yet.

I've been waiting since about 9/25 as well, and I would love to hear from them! Hang in there.

i was complete 8/30. It's past the 4-6 week timeline they gave, and I'm wondering how long I should I wait past that timeline before it is appropriate to ask to see if there's anything that's wrong on my end. This is especially frustrating because both Duke and CCLCM denied me interviews =/ Some sort of affirmation that my essays weren't total crap would be nice.

so i just called the school and apparently if we did not receive a phone call on friday that means a waitlist 🙁

Not sure who you talked to, but this is not at all correct. People are accepted throughout the application season, and the waitlist is formed in the spring.

In general, while I understand everyones' emotions were flowing on Friday, relax. It was literally the first day that Pritzker could accept anyone; if you didn't get accepted within the first few hours, you shouldn't be taking it as a sign that you're a failure.

As some have mentioned here and as we've mentioned on the podcast, some current students here were accepted as late as late summer before classes start. That's almost a year away. Take it from me: Your mental health will be much better off if you learn to take this process one step at a time and let it play out at its own pace.

Also, statistically speaking, the fact that only one person in this thread has been accepted doesn't suggest that Pritzker has only accepted one person. It's hard to believe, but some applicants don't ever post on or even use SDN, so while it's a very useful resource, you have to remember that it's not an entirely faithful representation of the overall applicant pool.

Good luck to everyone in the rest of this process and congrats to those already accepted!

NO WAI 😱

Someone above had said that students are accepted throughout the season. Out of curiosity, and for specificities sake, does this mean in batches or trickles ?

Thanks!

Some days, they accept a handful of people. Some weeks, they don't accept any. There's not too much rhyme or reason.

Hey,

I got an interview to University of Chicago and I really excited! I wanted to see if anyone else is interviewing 11/18. I am looking to crash with someone so I can spend Friday checking out the area. It is a bit far from home so I want to give myself time to look around as much as possible. Let me know you could host me! I would greatly appreciate it!!

Thanks 👍

What is a good example of a letter of interest?

Do I make it a couple sentences long or try to write a mini-essay about why I want to be at Pritzker?

If you could address the current status of my application, that'd be pretty dandy too.

Less likely. But I will ask, just for you.

"Sylvia, what's up with ColeOnTheRoll's application?"
"I can't tell you that."
"Okay."

I'll add it to the list. 🙂

Could you talk more about the dual degrees/opportunities to pursue degrees outside of science? How many students at Chicago do this? Is the administration really as okay with it as they say? What kinds of U of Chicago alums out there have interesting jobs because they got a degree in something like Philosophy/Peace Studies/Women's Studies/another social science?

Thanks. The interdisciplinary focus of U of Chicago is one of my favorite things about the school and it would be cool to hear more about it.

Absolutely. Good idea. Keep the suggestions coming.

Has anyone that interviewed 9/16 or later heard anything yet? I remember hearing 2 different things when I was there - that we'd hear the week after Oct. 15, and another time someone said it would be before Nov. 1.

I interviewed 9/29 I think and haven't gears anything. I thought they said that we would hear back a couple of weeks after 10/15 at the earliest, but I could be wrong.

Yeah at my interview they said two weeks after Oct 15

I'd like to hear about this too!

i called today after being complete for approx. 6 weeks and i was told that my application has been reviewed my a committee member and that i'll be hearing back this week.

i'm trying to be optimistic, but i feel a rejection is coming my way.

^^Same situation. 🙄

Has anyone else been complete for over 2 months with no status change?

yep, i've been complete since 8/30, so it's almost been 2 months. I called to ask and they said that yeah, it's basically still under review. I'm guessing that it's coming soon; the previous posters mentioned that they might be giving some decisions on interviews out this week. hope it's good news for us!

For those of you whom have called and they say you are under review...does it actually say that on your status on the secondary page, too? Or does it just say "application complete, we look forward to reading about your accomplishments etc."? That is what mine has said for the last month and I was wondering if it meant they have even cracked open my file yet. Thanks!

Thanks! I hope that means I will hear soon, then, too. Contrast that with Michigan, where it says my application has been under review since 8/24.

Good luck this week!

Today seemed like a pretty crappy day: two homework sets due, a presentation, and a 2hr night exam. However, after walking out of my exam, I checked my email to find an interview invite from Pritzker.

My day could not have been any better! 😀

One possible day is the Tuesday before Thanksgiving (11/23). I see there is class scheduled for MS1s and 2s, but will students still be around?

Yep, should be. Might be a nice time to visit, actually, since they won't have any exams in the immediate future then.

So, I interviewed here 9/14 and still haven't heard anything. Has anybody else gotten accepted or even put on the continued applicant list since October 15th??

I'm in the same boat. Interviewed in late August and haven't heard a thing... Should I assume the worst?

I am in the same situation too. I am just wondering, besides Whimsical, has anyone else who interviewed got a decision from the school?

Nosugrefneb, just a quick question: do you think if it is a good idea for us to ask? Or shall we keep waiting?

Hey guys,

For anyone who interviewed and hasn't heard anything, I called and they said that they just hadn't had the chance to look at my file yet, so I say call and see if they've even looked at it. I'm in the same boat as you guys -- I interviewed way early in the season.

I've been really nervous during past half month. Waiting, Waiting.....and still Waiting :scared:

Did anyone check your status page? Is there anything changed? Mine is still saying "Interview complete"

Particularly Ms. Whimsical, as you're only one in this forum who got the offer yet. Could you let us know what's your status page says?

I don't know what I should expect now 😕

i'm officially on continued status (called and asked) and my status online still just shows interview complete

What's "Continued Status" mean? Is that on hold or something else:idea: Some people said when they called school they were told "If you didn't received phone call in Oct 15, that means automatically on hold". Well, but today it sounds things come to be different

Based on the threads of past two years, Pritzker runs things very fast. They sent first batch offer about 50 exactly in Oct 15. What happend this year?

When did you both interview? I'm curious since I'm wondering if UChicago reviews the files by date of interview? Also when you called did you just leave a message and had them call you back?

I am nervous now. At my interview date they said they will get back to my group two weeks after Oct 15. Maybe I will call them tomorrow.

continued is like a deferred decision/hold thing from what i gather from the podcasts. i interviewed about two months ago fyi
