Is this for continued students??

I'd imagine it's for everyone who hasn't been either accepted or rejected, but I said I was a continued applicant so I'm pretty sure it applies to us.

Good luck everyone!

Can any current students that have lived/will live in Regents get in touch with me about that? Do most students that live there drive, or is it possible to walk/ride a bike? Or do most people do public transit? I would imagine that'd be pretty brutal during the winter. Also, is it possible to afford a 1BR (~$1200/mo) over a studio (~$900/mo) on the budget Pritzker uses for financial aid?

You can PM me or reply here. Thanks in advance!

Holy cow, $1200/mo for 1BR? My husband (he's a UofC grad student) and I live down the street from Regents in graduate student housing in a 1BR with 750sqft for <$900/mo. Sure, there's not a gym or a pool, but the Ratner Gym is just a bus (or bike) ride away. And if you don't have a bike, you could use the $300 you save in the first month to get one at a local bike store. Same goes for getting yourself a warm winter coat for waiting at the bus stop--there's a Northface store uptown. There's an online tracking system for buses, so there's no guessing when the bus will come. I work at the hospital, and I've only had to wait once for a bus for more than 10 minutes, and that was right after the early Feb snow storm. Here's a link to grad student housing: http://rs.uchicago.edu/graduate_housing/index.shtml

PM me if you want to know more about grad student housing at University of Chicago. FWIW, it is possible for a couple to live on one grad student budget...with lots of rice, beans, noodles, and the glory that is Hyde Park Produce 😀

Hell, if you're going to spend ~$1000/mo, you might as well look into the South Loop too. You'd live closer to downtown, have an express bus back and forth, and take roughly the same amount of time getting to the BSLC as you would from Regents.

Anyone know how often people get accepted off of the continued list?

Is there anything I can do to increase my chances?

Should I send a letter of interest? Can I do this via email? Sorry about all of the questions lol.

You can definitely send a letter to them at: [email protected]

They replied shortly after I sent my letter that it had been added to my file. As for how often they accept people off of the continued list...I have no idea.

I interviewed early December and have heard absolutely nothing, has this happened to anyone else?

Wondering if there are any current students who can help me with this decision...

I've got comparable financial aid offers from both schools, and most immediately, need to decide which revisit weekend to attend.

Anyone who faced the same decision? Insights into why you chose Pritzker over WashU?

what does it mean at this point if I am not continued but not accepted or rejected?? I interviewed early January, and no news. gah.

That happened with me too, but then I called the admissions office and asked. They told me I am continued...even though there was and still is no status change on the website.

There won't ever be any status change (I've been continued for months), but you should have received a letter in the mail.

I'm a little surprised nobody in the continued applicant pool has heard back yet, but I guess people are holding onto those acceptances this year. Or maybe the continued->accepted people just aren't on SDN...

It's addressed in the most recent podcast. I think it's all casual with the exception of 1) anything in the hospital(s) and 2) maybe the Saturday night dinner. I don't know for sure, though.

Yep, casual while keeping in mind that you'll be interacting not only with students but with faculty and that we'll be at a sports bar-ish place on Friday night and a fancier Italian place on Saturday night. So, definitely no ties/suits/jackets, but also no flip-flops/shorts/grungy t-shirts. Something in between.

great! thanks. i don't want to be underdressed for the faculty/hospitals and overdressed for the Friday night event. have to find that sweet spot.

+1

Anyone getting in on Thursday night? 🙂

Me and a friend of mine who was also accepted will be there thursday night. We may be going out, you and everyone else are welcome to join us! PM me and I can get you my contact info

I did a quick fb search -- it looks like in previous years, the current M1's made a facebook group for the incoming students after revisit weekend. We should probably just wait until then.

Excited to meet you all this week!

For all the people who went: how was Second Look?

Yeah I was wondering the same thing unfortunately I couldn't make it this weekend. Any more feedback on second look?

On a side note looks like Cole has decided where he's going....

Second look was awesome! You could tell everyone was incredibly intelligent but really down to earth. I liked everyone I met a lot

As far as the school goes, the visit reminded me how amazing UChicago is as a school. After the whirlwind that is interview season, it was easy to forget. It was down to there and one other school, but I'm about 98% positive about going there now.

Lastly, I always had some reservations about Hyde park, but realized after the tour how picturesque the surrounding area is. Not to mention, going out in Chicago was AMAZING

Reiterate the above: awesome. To be honest, there wasn't much information provided that you couldn't find online. I thought the most useful parts were 1) seeing the Hyde Park area again, 2) somewhat exploring other parts of Chicago, especially the downtown area, and 3) meeting people. It was a great experience that definitely made my decision easy.

For all the people who went: how was Second Look?

The weekend was probably one of the best weekends I have had in a while. For me what was most important was seeing the potential students there. Cole is right in that all the information at second look you could find online.

Overall I left Pritzker excited at having the opportunity to spend 4 years with students that were not only intelligent but outgoing, social, and just fun as well. O I also left pretty nauseated and hung over too....haha

If the social atmosphere is anything like revisit weekend, I think everyone that chooses to attend pritzker is going to have a blast.

Man...I wish I could have joined you guys. At least we had some nice weather in Chicago this weekend! 😎

Speaking of longing for 😍Pritzker😍--has anyone heard of any movement on the continued list recently?

All of these revisit testimonials are making me so jealous!!! Pritzker is still my number one choice even without revisiting, but this continued list waiting is making me crazy. I told them how much I love them in my LOI, so I guess I'm just waiting for a miracle to happen now. Glad to hear that everyone at Pritzker is amazing; that's one more reason why I would love going to this school!

Just a +1 to everyone who was saying that revisit was awesome... definitely the best weekend I've had in a while!

Data point for posterity: don't schedule an early flight out of Chicago the Sunday of revisit weekend. Getting to the airport yesterday morning was miserable - 5:30 a.m. came very very quickly 😀

Hi Everyone!

It is so great to hear all the positive responses from Revisit. It was great meeting all of you and seeing some of the faces of MS15! I am so happy you guys had fun this weekend. Once again, I want to emphasize that this can be whatever you want to make of it, so never limit your own options.

For those of you who weren't able to attend, don't despair! I wasn't accepted at Pritzker until after revisit, but completely happy here and haven't had any issues.

Once more, thanks for coming out and spending the weekend with us!

So when is the facebook site going to be set up?? 😀

Hey guys! Congrats on the acceptances! I'm applying this year and have been following this thread every now and again. Pritzker is my top choice for many reasons.

My numbers are not competitive, 29Q, 3.57cgpa, 3.57sgpa. I know that Pritzker says they're "not a numbers school" but in my experience I've seen that to mean "numbers aren't everything" meaning you have to have excellent scores + rock everything else. I see folks like Cole and think there's no way in h*ll I'll ever be considered. I'd like to think I have great ECs, have overcome a lot of disadvantages, etc, and have the makings of a great app, except for those scores.

So, does the 'not a numbers school' thing go both ways? If I am a good fit will they consider me despite my lower scores or should I just forget about it, go to my state school, and hope to come to Chicago for residency?

Thanks for any input and sorry for hijacking your thread! Feel free to PM me if you prefer. Good luck everyone and congrats again to everyone who made it in this cycle! You rock!

As calvnandhobbs68 said, you'll have a very difficult time getting in, unless you retake the MCAT and do significantly better. But you might as well try if it's your dream school 👍.

On a side note, I took a quick look at your MDApps profile and it seems that you aren't planning on applying to any safety schools because you'd be happy at KU anyway. If there's one thing I've learned this cycle is that nothing is ever even remotely close to a guarantee, even your state school, so I'd really suggest you add some more mid-tier schools. Good luck!!!!

Of the 20 schools I applied to, the one that I considered the safety of all safeties, I was rejected. It's OK, I really didn't want to go there and I have offers and waitlists at multiple top 20 schools. Nothin' is ever even remotely "safe" when is comes to applying to med school.

Just by a quick look at your numbers, I'd say you have very little chance of getting in. When Chicago says they aren't a "numbers" school they mean just what you said...you have to have stuff in addition to solid numbers not in place of them. Your GPA is below their 10th percentile of accepted applicants and your MCAT score is 3 points below their 10th percentile. I have the feeling you're going to get screened out on MCAT score alone.

Thanks guys! I really appreciate it, especially the advice about not thinking of KU as a safety. I updated my mdapps to include up to 14 schools (the total allowed with the fee waiver) including more mid-tier programs. I wish I could retake the MCAT but there's little opportunity here in rural West Africa! If I don't get in anywhere, this will be the first thing I do to strengthen my app, though. Thanks again and good luck!

Girl, I love your positive (but also realistic) attitude. That sunflower is def a good avatar!

A quick note on OHSU: according to last year's MSAR, they interviewed more than half of their in-state applicants (228/405) but only a paltry 7% of their OOS applicants (327/4094) so a chance of getting an interview there would be pretty slim, stats or not. The same goes for Boston--the school gets over 10K applications a year, so interview chances just by pure probability would be difficult (ain't stopping me from applying though). Just something to consider!
