Interview invite today. I will be declining it because of acceptance elsewhere. Good luck guys!

Hi All,

This is my first post on this thread!!! I interviewed November 12th, 2010 at UF and was recently accepted into the Class of 2015. I was hoping to meet some future classmates and provide encouragement to those in the process!!!

Blessings!!! 🙂

Congrats, Rattlerpride09. That's exciting news.
Still hoping they send one of those acceptances my way.

Dont you have to make your decision to what medical school you are going to by May 15th(or so). So for those waitlisted and get accepted in June, imply that the specific school was the only one that accepted them, if they were accepted elsewhere it would seem that they would have accepted their invite by the May 15th deadline.

It would certainly seem that way. But some schools may have other deadlines besides May 15th. So maybe, you don't accept there right away. But essentially, I think you're right, you would already have accepted somewhere else or not been accepted at all if you get something by June-ish.

Congrats Rattlerpride09!!! I am going to be interviewed next Friday!!! Any advise?? comments??
Hope to get accepted and meet you and all the rest in the class!

FL schools do tend to be kind of dumb in the candidates they do select (case in point: me) but just because it's December doesn't mean you should give up hope! Keep on truckin kids!

Hi There Mila83.... Sorry about the delay, as you are probably ending your interview day right about now!!! But the best advice is to just be yourself. DONT STRESS. They really just want to get to know you. The COM is AMAZING, and I hope that your experience is as GREAT as mine. I wish you the best of luck and hope that I will have the privilege of having you as my classmate!!!

I don't know what happened here either, but --REDACTED--

ouch, 34? I was thinking more like 27.

She's joking. The average MCAT for the class of 2014 was ~32. I don't know if there is an MCAT cutoff, but 26 or 27 sounds about right.

AMAZING SCHOOL! EVEN BETTER THAN I IMAGINED OR ANTICIPATED! Both interviews were very informal so that took the initial nerves off of them. They really care about the students and the entire day there was nothing missing. Highly recommend applying to this school.

I walked by the office the other day and counted all the "mugshots" for the class of 2015. There were roughly 80 pictures on the board, counting the Junior Honors students. I'm assuming those are the people who've decided to go to UF.

I do not believe it's possible for any school in the US to have a final class now. Maybe those are the people who have paid the deposit for UF to hold a spot for them? You can't have a final class until minimum of May 15th. Until May 15th, one can hold 100 medical school acceptances if one so chooses.

So I guess there is no way we can show interest in this school pre-interview?

Sure there is - don't withdraw your application! Applying = interested in school.

No apparently not. Earlier in the falls emester I tried sending an update letter and they emailed me back saying they only take post interview updates.

I wonder how many invites they have left to hand out or how many dates worth of invites they have left to hand out for.

There are about 9 interview days left and they interview 18-20 people per interview day. A recent interviewee told me they'd just passed their 'interview hump day'.

Just got put on the hold list...Damn! Thought the interviews went better than that, but what can i do. Just wondering, it looks like this means I won't be reviewed again until March or April? that's a long time to have to wait!

Just to clarify, these are all of the students who were accepted, paid their deposit, and said it was okay to post their photo on the board. Also, they may be a little behind with posting the photos. I was accepted Nov 2nd and I paid my deposit and received confirmation but my photo is still not up yet (so there might be fewer open spots than it seems 🙁).

Hope that helps with the confusion and good luck to everyone else, I hope to see you all next year!

Nobody should worry about how many photos are up on that board. It's going to be shuffled around so much before next August that the actual number of seats left in the class now is meaningless.

And to reiterate a previous point, don't worry too much about being put on hold. It's frustrating, but just keep in mind that 70% of people interviewed are eventually accepted, and ~10-15% are accepted post interview (I think). That's a very definite statistic that should make those on hold feel optimistic. It also emphasizes how much shuffling occurs after that May 15th deadline.

Just be patient and keep updating. Reserve panic, shame and seppuku for July or something.

Edit: Thought about it some more, and it's probably closer to 20-25% accepted immediately post interview, but regardless, the point still stands.

85% of all statistics are made up. But I loved your use of seppuku 😍, so I will leave you with this gem from "Ron Burgandy."

"Brian Fantana: [about Veronica] I'll give this little cookie an hour before we're doing the no-pants dance. Time to musk up.
[opens cologne cabinet]
Ron Burgundy: Wow. Never ceases to amaze me. What cologne you gonna go with? London Gentleman, or wait. No, no, no. Hold on. Blackbeard's Delight.
Brian Fantana: No, she gets a special cologne... It's called Sex Panther by Odeon. It's illegal in nine countries... Yep, it's made with bits of real panther, so you know it's good.
Ron Burgundy: It's quite pungent.
Brian Fantana: Oh yeah.
Ron Burgundy: It's a formidable scent... It stings the nostrils. In a good way.
Brian Fantana: Yep.
Ron Burgundy: Brian, I'm gonna be honest with you, that smells like pure gasoline.
Brian Fantana: They've done studies, you know. 60% of the time it works, every time.
[cheesy grin]
Ron Burgundy: That doesn't make sense.
Brian Fantana: Well... Let's go see if we can make this little kitty purr."

Happy Holidays!

I have heard through the grapevine that all on hold students will be transferred over directly to the Alternate/Wait-list line. This seems to be in stark contrast to what was said at my interview earlier in the season about On-Hold applicants being reviewed later in March and then offered Acceptances or Wait-list spots.

Does anyone know if UF has randomly changed their admissions procedures mid-season or is this just a response to the unusual number of people accepting spots early?

For people that have acceptances to other schools that start early seems like you might as well write off any school that wait-lists you. What are the chances you would be offered a spot within a week or two?

I don't know if they've changed their policies. But I know over the last few years there's been some shifting within the admissions office. Different director this year who was previously at USF med as assistant director for a year and a half from the previous 2 they had.

I however fail to believe that all hold applicants are waitlisted. Although many have been if not most that I knew I don't think that every single one of the hold people in a school that does admissions how UF and BU and Tufts do it will just be shifted to waitlist. I mean I knew people in the past who were put on hold and accepted and others who were put on hold and waitlisted and then accepted. And I highly doubt policies would change that drastically to do that when the point of any hold or deferred status is to hold of on a decision til they've seen more candidates to get a bigger idea of the pool especially in the case of Post Interview Hold statuses. So it wouldn't be fair to assume that all hold applicants just end up waitlisted. But I suppose the only time will tell.

The source of this information was a member of UF Admissions. I did not directly speak to the person, but have heard from others that this is what was said. I suppose its possible they misunderstood, but for as many photos as I see up on the UF COM Class of 2014 board, I can certainly believe they could fill the remaining spots from interviews scheduled in the Spring.

Damnit, I missed all the fun.

Now, to contribute something useful: stay positive.

I applied last year, and seriously thought I had 0 chance of getting in. I got interviewed on the last possible day (March something), which was totally unexpected, they basically called me a week before the interview. And I got in without being on-hold. True story. Totally unexpected, random, and against the odds if you ask me. This kinda stuff happens!

I turned in my secondary kinda late, good to know that there is hope!

Yep, turning in secondaries late is really not a problem when applying to UF. However, things may change now. We now have the lady who was big in admissions at USF - and I really really hope that UF does not become like USF. In my opinion, USF's (pre-interview) application process was one of the worst and most frustrating in Florida.

I wouldn't worry. I feel like a large portion of the 2014 class was accepted later. UF tries to keep everyone on even ground regardless of interview date.

That's how it was last year, at least.

Can anybody who is currently applying verify that UF no longer takes pre-interview updates? I'll be pretty upset if its true.

I verified this information. Looks like they're doing things a bit differently this semester. So much for keeping folks on even ground.

Can any of the medical students comment on the changes? Did they make this decision mid-season or was it in the works all along? I definitely heard differently when I interviewed.

Food: UF does not take pre-interview updates. Got to just cross your fingers and hope for the best.

this is a real shame. UF's process in the past has been relatively open/transparent with the exception that they were sometimes late in the dates they told us about when they would start taking people off of the "hold" list. If they are directly transferring people from "hold" to the waitlist, they must be accepting more and more people post-interview. I'm not sure whether these changes are coming from our new education dean (which I doubt), or the change up we've had in admissions staff. I'll see what I can find out on Monday.

If I remember correctly, we were told that somewhere around 50-60% (specifically 10-12 out of 20) of interviewed students will be accepted right off the bat and the rest will be placed on hold until a later date. Hope that helps.👍

If that's the case, then it sounds like the AdCom has changed how they do things a bit.
