Not quite sure what you mean by behavioral courses (human development? clinicals?) but everything your first 2 years is pass/fail/honors.

I thought the same thing originally, but I think they are inquiring about undergrad requirements prior to matriculation.

RE second look...I brought my mom and I didn't feel weird. It seemed like the majority of people did not come alone whether they were with their parents/family member/significant other or whatever.

just got the hold email from Linda for March - 4th time 🙁

So I mailed an update letter of interest/intent to UICOM yesterday (sent to Linda Singleton), and I didn't get a reply to indicate that they received the letter. However, I did receive the customary letter from Linda telling me that they had reviewed my application for March and did not come to a decision (2nd round for me). Anyone else get the email from Linda, and anyone have better luck mailing a letter to a different address?

when i emailed an update letter of activities, i sent it to the general email- [email protected]. This was the email I was told to email my letter to when I had called and asked the office. Also, they do not send you any confirmation emails; the letter is just added to your file and you have to take their word for it.

I also received an email from Linda today- my 3rd one 🙁

Dear Linda,

Go F yourself.

Rocketman0314,
You should be more careful. For all you know, they might come here and look at this thread every now (just saying) and then and especially since you have your picture up, it would be easy to identify you...If you are still holding out then it is not as wise idea to do something like this. And I doubt Linda is the only responsible for the decision...😀

To All the others...I will be there on the second look day and hopefully get to meet some of you! 🙂. There might not be much activity from us first years here on SDN since we now only have two weeks left before the Big Storm (five finals and two NBME boards-Gross and Histo). PM if you have any specific questions and I will try my best to get back to ya ASAP but I know that some of my classmate have been awesome and also answering your questions here! GL and REMEMBER, there is a HUGE turn about on and after May 15 (if I am thinking of the right date) so please don't give up, remain optimistic. 😀

hey guys,
I interviewed on 4/5, and here's what they said...They have one other interview day this month (I'm guessing from the other poster that it's the 18th) and they will meet very shortly after that, and have some news to us before the end of the month. So April 21 seems like a good guess for the April adcom meeting. The dean said there are 3 possibilities, with rejection being the least likely (yay, more uncertainty) and that since about 60% if the accepted students so far have acceptances at other schools as well, they expect a lot of movement. I know that's not all that specific but I thought for those waiting since 1982 it might be nice to know something.

Most definitely. Thanks a lot for sharing!

Did the dean give any word on Chicago/Urbana/Peoria/Rockford placements during his presentation?

I hope i find out sooner rather than later...if I don't get accepted soon to my top choice I'm going to have a tough time preparing to move out of state for another school while being in limbo with UIC.

Hi, is anyone involved with or know a lot about research opportunities in Peoria? Is it mainly laboratory, or clinical, or an equal mix of both? Is it mainly research in the areas that they have residency programs? Is there not a lot of research? Or maybe a ton? I have looked on their websites a little, but don't have a clear idea yet. I plan to look a little more and possibly call. Any info would be appreciated!!

I called and they weren't available and emailed and they only responded once (in the email they say "to satisfy our behavioral/social sciences requirement), so I'll ask it here.

What courses count as part of their behavioral sciences requirement? At first I thought it was only behavioral courses like psychology/sociology/anthropology.

The email said "behavioral/social sciences" requirement, so would one sociology, one psychology and one political science OR economics course be ok?

Hi Everyone,

I was just wondering if anyone has heard about interviews for the UMed program. Any updates would be greatly appreciated!!!

is it possible to adjust the loans so that I have less of grad+ loans and more of the cheaper, but still unsubsidized loans?

Hey Laaggie,

I received an UMED interview invite about a week after my acceptance from the college. I got the invite April 6th. Good luck and I hope you hear back.

I got an invite to interview last week on April 6th as well, I was accepted a while ago though so I don't know if the two are related. I did turn in my application the day it was due though.

Hope you hear back soon! 🙂

This may have been answered previously but roughly how long did it take for people to hear back on placements? When I interviewed, one of the student tour guides told me that he didn't hear back on his placement until after the May 15th deadline but it seems like people are hearing back before that. I interviewed March 9th, & received my acceptance packet April 2nd. I just sent back my preference form on April 6th.

Any help would be appreciated.

More or less between one to two weeks.

Isn't the placement pretty much already determined by the interview date? The consensus here on SDN was that interviews after November can pretty much expect placement in Urbana unless there are reasons to appeal. This was actually stated by the dean when I had my interview in March.

There seems to be a lot of mystery surrounding placement. Someone posted on this thread recently that he or she was place in Chicago as recently as the end of March . . .

When I was filling out the supplemental, Econ definitely counted (AP credits too). I'm not sure how strict they are on the pre-requisite rules written online, where it says 3 behavioral or social sciences, and 2 have to be from the same department. If you're really unsure, call the Admissions Office on Thursdays, where they have counselors on call. Just ask to speak to a counselor when they pick up.

Does anyone know how it works? Do only Chicago campus placements get invited? I was put on the UPR track but still have a lot of questions about the school and have petitioned for a campus change bc of spouse in Chicago. Never received any information about second look. Thanks!

To those who withdrew their application post-acceptance, did you email or call them? If you emailed, did you get a response back?

I emailed them a while ago and never got a response...so I'm just curious what the procedure is. Thanks!

Good luck to everyone else still waiting here; hope my spot goes to one of you guys!

That's what I thought too (and yes the Admissions Officer did comment that as a March interviewee we were "pretty much" interviewing just for Urbana M1 spots) but I just wanted to be sure that I would receive my definitive placement prior to May 15. I know it's unlikely but on my student portal it indicates that I am on Chicago campus. Not sure if that's just a default setting or not though so I thought I'd ask you guys.

thx asyouwereatrio for the info. did it come via mail as well?

I just emailed them...should I have sent it via other means?

I was referring to the site preference info. As far as application withdrawal, I think most schools ask for formal letter by mail? I'm not sure what UIC's policy is though. I just got my acceptance so I'm still trying to sort everything out to accept the offer.

Aww, oh well campus placement was mailed to me about 1 week after I was accepted/mailed back my card. Congrats on the acceptance!

At the other schools at which I've withdrawn, I've just emailed them and they replied back with a confirmation.

I called and asked what to do. They said to include the following, all sent to [email protected]

- Your AMCAS ID
- Address where you would like to have them send you your $100 deposit (if you made it). Also specify how long the address will be valid b/c it can take a few months. If moving soon, provide another permanent address.

I also put "Withdrawing Acceptance; AMCAS ID #####" in the subject line, though she didn't specify that was a requirement.

I did not receive any confirmation and I have yet to receive my refund check (I withdrew early-mid-March.. she said I should wait until at least May to receive the check).

Just FYI...I visited the UIC COM admissions office yesterday and obtained the following info: the final, official interview date is April 18th; however, the admissions committee has been known to add more dates if they feel it is necessary (as in past years). Also, application status updates take place every Thursday and not just after an adcom meeting on the last Thursday of the month. Thought this might be helpful for some individuals still "decision pending" etc., lol 😕 Best of luck everyone!!!!!!

Has anyone been accepted into the Rural Health program?

Hi Everyone,

I was just wondering if anyone has heard about interviews for the UMed program. Any updates would be greatly appreciated!!!

Also got an invite to interview for UMed on 4/6! 🙂 I have NO idea how to prepare for this, anyone have advice? Also, I emailed back saying that I preferred the morning block of interviews and did not get a confirmation. How about you guys? Did they confirm with you?

That's what I did, less the address. I'll follow up with them tomorrow. Thanks! 🙂

Thanks for the info Akira, however I doubt updates happen every Thursday because the only time this thread gets any ppl talking about getting rejections/acceptances is after an adcom meeting.

I have a few questions about the Peoria campus. If there are any current Peoria medical students, it would be great to PM you. Please let me know!

I hear ya...I wish the application process was more transparent! But SDN has been quite helpful!

Peoria M3 here. You can PM me.

Do any of the Rural Health students go into a specialty area?

If you are talking about RMED, the agreement is that you practice primary care in a rural area. Check out the UIC Rockford website for more information.

i think i got chicago placement just now. it says coll medicine at chicago -CS as for my college and my guess is that CS stands for chicago site. my question is, is chicago's cost of living a lot more than the other two cities? and if so by how much in average?

If you look at the UIC website, http://www.medicine.uic.edu/finaid/cost/COA/, you can see estimated costs for living in Chicago. Obviously, as a major city, Chicago has many more opportunities for entertainment (and distraction) than the other campuses. Rent is also going to be pretty high, though certain neighborhoods (like Ukrainian Village and Pilsen) could be cheaper than others (though "cheap" is a relative term). But, it also has an extensive public transportation network and as part of your tuition you will be paying for an all-inclusive transit pass (U-Pass). It's also fairly bike-friendly in the fall and spring.
Ultimately, Chicago's cost of living is substantially more than the other two cities, but how much will depend on how you choose to live. Good luck!

Has anyone had success with a letter of intent here or know of someone who has? My limited contacts suggest that they are not worth anything...but I'm not sure. 😕

thanks for the info. According to the website, it says there's a difference of 3,000 dollars in living costs but is that really true? (if living on similar living standards) i thought chicago was "a lot" more expensive. also, i heard that m2 m3 m4 students at peoria get free boarding, and if that's true shouldn't it be significantly less than the costs of the chicogoans?

Finally, are there definitely more opportunities in chicago than other campuses? (professionally rather than socially)

i inquired linda about this and she told me to send it if i want to, so i'm guessing it does. i actually wrote the loi right before their committee meeting and i got in right away so it may have played a role, but i'm not sure by how much.

Where did you hear this? Its news to me . . .

Do Economic classes satisfy the behavioral sciences requirements? These classes would be taken before medical school acceptance.
