For those that submitted already, what does your status say? Mine says "recommendations: __ received from AMCAS, expecting a total of ___, awaiting Admission Officer letter review"

My LOR section is blank....but it does show the dates of when I submitted my app, etc.

Not sure if this was resolved for you, but last year several people had a problem with this LOR hold. It seemed like your secondary got lost in purgatory and they wouldn't attach your letters to the application. If it's like that for more than 10 days or so, I'd say give them a call and they'll fix it in minutes. Worked for me!

Hey, thanks for your information, but it was resolved a few days after I posted! 🙂

Where do you guys check your status? When I login, I just see the checklist but I don't see an indication of status anywhere...

At the bottom of that page, there is a button that says next. you only see it if your application is complete 🙂

I wonder for how long we're going to sit like this...hopefully not too long, but I feel like it'll be til September (like last year)

I wasn't counting on hearing anything solid till end of Sept

Anything earlier is bonus to me

One more switched to applicant in process. I would love to hear from them soon since I already have a flight booked to chicago and wouldn't mind knocking two off in one trip (if they will be gracious enough to offer me an interview which is of course a big if)

:xf:Switched to "applicant" too........:xf:

So for anyone who is asking "where is my secondary" can I ask have you checked your junk folder in your email??

Only reason I say this (not to play Captain Obvious) is this is where my wife found several of the schools she is applying to (including this one) had ended up.

Hope this helps and good luck!

Hey guys,

Two quick questions: I have several hobbies that kind of fit together nicely and culminated in me founding a student organization. Do you think it's OK if I talk about all of them?

More importantly, has anyone had problems with all their courses appearing in the drop-down lists? For some reason, only one of my physics classes shows up in the drop-down. I guess I can just put "other" for physics 2 and the labs and let them figure it out from the AMCAS, but I'm not comfortable doing that. Any other suggestions?

Thanks and good luck everyone!

I think if your response has a good narrative, you're still in good shape talking about several things, but I'd be careful trying to fit too much in there. You run the risk of making it seem like you didn't have a focus or that you can't say enough about any one thing. Keep in mind the 250 word limit. It really doesn't give you much room to speak about anything, let along three things. I'd be careful, but, again, if you have a good narrative thesis, you should still be ok

Omg... I didn't notice this until AFTER I submitted of course...

I cut and paste from Microsoft Word my essays, they all looked fine. Then I noticed quotations do not show up ("), instead they show up as y's!! I quoted title of my paper, so it looks like:

... entitled, yThe title of my article.y I also....

Please tell me adcomms will notice that was a formatting typo!!! :scared:

I just realized I have a couple grammatical errors in my situation essay. I really should have proofread better. How the hell did I miss the it's and its error? 🙁

They will. Got in early with a ridiculous amount of format errors. (all my commas/punctuation turned into random special characters). The case is sometimes that the punctuation just appears funny on the website but prints out normal for them. Either way, don't sweat it. 🙂

Checked my status just after midnight. The interview list is up for me. I'm a little confused because I'm Early Decision, but all the dates start after Oct 1. Either way I'm gonna call them when they open up at 8:30. Just wanted to give you guys a heads up to check the site.

thanks for the info..i'm stilll "applicant in process"...but I'm not EDP.

My status also changed to "Applicant in Process." First time I've seen that! This is also a top choice for me 🙂

Goodluck everyone!

Is there a difference between "Application is in Process" and "Applicant is in Process"? And if so, what does it mean?

Here is information that will be helpful in knowing where you stand in the application process:

Hi everyone! I decided to post this time line (posted on past years' threads) that was of great service to me this past cycle. I hope that it finds you well. 🙂

START

I. Submit Primary.

II. Wait for the email from UIC giving you your login information for the Applicant Status Check site (usually arrives within 2 weeks of submitting your primary): https://mercury.comd.uic.edu/appstat

III. Login, and check your status in the second page.

---

A. "Application Not Complete" = Secondary not yet complete.

B. "Application in Process" = You are complete. --> Goto C.

C. "Applicant in Process" = Your file is being reviewed, 3 Possible Status Changes:
1. "Select Interview Date" = You are good enough for an interview. --> Goto D.
2. "Application in Process" = You are not good enough to grant an interview yet, but might be later on in the cycle. Check back periodically. --> Go back to B.
3. "Final Decision Made ..." = You are not good enough. --> Goto X.
D. "Select Interview Date" (A grid of dates shows up) = Call and schedule an interview date, after which "Interview Scheduled on ... " shows up. After the interview, Goto F.

F. "Decision Pending" = File pending review at the next adcom meeting (every 3rd Thursday of the month). There are 2 options from here, depending on the month:
1. Before May. --> Goto M.
2. On or After May. --> Goto N.
M. Before May, 2 Possible Status Changes:
1. "Final Decision Made ... " --> Goto S.
2. "Decision Pending" (No Status Change) + "We'll keep reviewing you" Email (a few days later) = You are a good candidate, but not good enough to grant an acceptance yet. UIC will keep reviewing you at every adcom meeting. --> Go back to F.
N. On or After May, 2 Possible Status Changes:
1. "Final Decision Made ... " You are (very likely) rejected. --> Goto X.
2. "Applicant is Waitlisted" = Waitlisted. --> Goto Y.
S. There are 2 additional conditions from here:
1. There is an "Additional Correspondences" Tab in the upper-right corner on your status page AND you get a CBC Email (a few days later) = You are (very likely) accepted. --> Goto Z.
2. There is no "Additional Correspondences" Tab and/or you don't get the CBC Email = Rejection. [Note: This is tricky. The CBC email usually comes a few days after (1-4 is the consensus) the status change. Be patient. Sometimes, the email never comes, which might be because you already had a CBC done due to an acceptance at another school. In some instances, the CBC Email even comes after the snail-mail. If after a week, neither the tab nor the CBC email shows up, it's very likely a rejection. You've probably already received snail-mail by now alerting you to it.] --> Goto X.
X. "Final Decision Made ..." = Rejection 🙁 ... Wait for a "Thin Letter" via snail-mail.

Y. "Applicant is Waitlisted" = Waitlisted. :xf: ... The CBC Email no longer acts as an indicator of an acceptance. If you get accepted off of the waitlist, then Goto Z, else Goto X.

Z. "Final Decision Made ..." + "Additional Correspondences" Tab + CBC Email = (very likely) Acceptance 😀 ... Wait for a "Fat Packet" via snail-mail. [Note: Sometimes CBC emails come after the packet. CBC emails also might never arrive if you got an acceptance to another school that also does CBC through AMCAS.]

FINISH

*** PLEASE BEAR IN MIND that this info came from last year's thread! Therefore, the whole process may have changed since then, and there is no guarantee to this information. But it worked for me (even though I was given the same warning) and the time line was accurate.

Good look to all of you class of 2015 applicants!! 😀

Here is information that will be helpful in knowing where you stand in the application process:

I'm still on the fence on whether or not this is totally valid. A page or so back someone mentioned that an admissions office person at UIC specifically told him/her that there is no distinction between "applicant" and "application." However... if they mean the same thing, then why the different phrasing? I want Discovery Channel to do an episode of MythBusters on this.

Haha, who knows. My status changed from application to applicant about a week ago.. so it seems like there must be a difference, why else change?

Good luck everyone! :luck:

Hmm, you bring up a good point, but based on the "sequence of events", I would say applicant in process probably indicates what was in my post above, which is that we're being reviewed. I'm sure there must be some sort of distinction, that person maybe just didn't want to tell us? lol

In all honesty, who reallly knows lol..

re: the whole application/ applicant thing. it was debated last year too, and probably the year before. but based on our collective experience, it seems true. just because someone from UIC says there's no difference, that's not necessarily true.

i cant remember exactly what happened but during my interview there last year they said that if we were 'no decision made yet'/going to be re-reviewed, they would email us to tell us that. sure enough, nothing but crickets post interview, i called them to ask about it and they told me i would NOT receive an email like they said on the interview day. then a (long) while later, i DID get said email that was described at interview. similarly, at my MCW interview they told us we should NOT expect an email in a week with our decision (thanks to SDN, we all were.) sure enough, they DID send out emails with the decisions in a week.

moral of the story, people at schools don't always know what they are talking about. or, maybe they know exactly what you are referring to, but have their reasons not to admit it (perhaps in an effort to prevent people from being even more neurotic than they already are and flooding the office with applicant/application emails?) but i do think there is merit to the application/applicant thing.

Mine changed to applicant about 2 weeks ago, no word though beyond that 😴

a couple years back mine went back and forth from applicant to application in process and back again before I got an interview in february..... I would also guess it means something... I was a fringe "might get accepted" student that year as indicated by their back and forth and was eventually waitlisted so yea....

u of i needs to be a lil quirky in their details because they have so many people they interview and three different campuses involved...

anyways, theyll start giving out non EDP interviews super soon I bet, and if you did get one (someone indicated they did)... great job!

There's a new girl now on mythbusters... : (

I had a huge crush on kari.

I had a huge crush on kari.
She didn't leave! She was on maternity leave for part of 2009 and the new girl is just a fill in. She is also hosting a new show called "head rush" that for kids after school -- think Bill Nye.

U can rest assured...she will be back on Mythbusters this season 🙂

Please someone else log into the system and tell me if I'm dreaming;

Instead of "Applicant in progress"
I get a date of Interview Slots!!!!

BUT I haven't received any emails or correspondance of an interview.

Anyone else? Anyone? Is it a system mess up or did I get an interview? *drool*

Thanks for the heads up!
I was actually confused because I couldn't click anything on the website to schedule the interview. I'm still waiting for my official e-mail interview invite. Maybe I should just call. I don't want to sound presumptious! I'm sooo excited! Now what to do with the out of state tuition is beyond me... do you know if they give any scholarships for us out of staters?

Nope. Didn't get one. 🙁. I sent out the very first day possible too.

FML. I can already tell this is going to be a bad year. 🙁

Congrats to those who got the invites.

I just called to schedule the interview. The lady was very nice and said they don't send out any emails so just check the status page and once you see the interview slots, give them a call.

Good luck guys!

Congratulations on the interview!! Do you have any sort of "strong ties" to Illinois? As someone from CA, I feel that I'm "disadvantaged" because UIC/UIUC may not want an OOS person with few ties to IL.

Goood luck at the interview and everywhere else!

I went to uiuc as a grad, undergrad, and live in a neighboring state.... Dunno if that gives me strong ties. Good luck!

This might have been asked already but I haven't heard a peep from this school in so long. So I logged onto the secondary application page to check my status and all I see is a checklist. At the bottom of the page I clicked on the Continue button and it just took me to a summary of my secondary without any status. I have everything checked off on the list and paid. How are you guys accessing your status for UIC?? Thanks!

Ya that gives you solid ties, I'm hoping that finishing up my undergrad there this year will give me strong ties as well but i'm still waiting for an interview

Log in with your AAMC ID and UIC assigned password....This was a link given in an original email or something, a link that is different from the one used to access/complete a secondary.

I got a whole bunch of interview slots too on my page!! Holy crap! First interview????

Which number did you call to schedule your interview?? I've been calling the number listed at the bottom but no one is picking up...hmmm

i like that uic does the application to applicant in process thing... keeps you up to date on where the app is.
and great job on the interviews people! I interviewed in Peoria last year and really liked the people. It'd be cool if I could get another chance at an interview and have it hopefully be in Chicago this time to get a good look at it.
