Been "Applicant in Process" for a few days already, but it feels so long......
been checking my status...like 3 times a day...but no changes yet :idea:

Anyone status change from "applicant in process" to interview slots yet? 😀

I was applicant in process for about 2 weeks before I got an interview invite, so don't worry yet!

I've been an "Applicant in Process" for about 6 weeks. No interview invite. OOS. I guess that means I'm on hold 🤣
I'm kind of punch crazy right now. It's a long road to go down, but that's ok, I'll keep-a-going. :ninja:

Yeah I read last year thread and some people didn't get interviewed until March! crazy crazy

People People! Just relax, If you all are getting THIS worked up and it is still only september, then you WILL kill yourself for the amount of time you might have to wait.....JUST RELAX!:laugh:

There was me, with secondary turned it by September and stayed Application in process until the interview invite for the last day of interviews in April of next year (yep, never went Applicant in process and they called me to invite me to the interview). Got accepted the week before the wait-list came out in June I think.....Now that was a long wait from last year's September!😎

Then there were two people who interviewed in the first interview batches, were put on hold, and did not get accepted until late April/ early May...That was also a long wait...😎

My point being, just relax, take a deep breath or you will drive yourself crazy!

Just thought you'd like to know, as with years before, the interview day was actually fairly stress-free. The staff was great, the interviewers (for the most part) were personable. Again, for the most part, it seemed like the process was more about getting to know you as a person than grilling you or seeing how you respond under stress or duress. One last thing is that the interviewers only have access to your essays (your PS from AMCAS and your responses to the supplemental). Make sure you go through your stuff and know what you put in those statements and what you'd like to use to fill out the image you want them to walk away from the table with. Good Luck all!

Haha....you are very welcome! and really sorry but I try not to share my stats (not even on SDN?!?! oh no hahaha), yes not even on SDN...but I did just graduate from undergrad and am IS.

BUT....if you or ANYONE ELSE has specific question about anything related to the darn process or the school and want honest opinions.....PM me...I will be More than Happy to answer them! All I ask is that you give me some time since we (the M1s) are test taking machines right now and it becomes really hard to find time, but I will try my best! 👍

Hopefully there is some upperclassmen (like last year's thread) who is part of the admissions committee who also chips in from time to time on this thread. I know that the M2s have a little more free time than we do.

Finally, I bet that if any of you have a specific question, there is a VERY very very very good chance that it was discussed in last years thread and you will find the answer there, so take time and PERUSE through it, it was 51 PAGES FOR A REASON :laugh:

NEVER GIVE UP HOPE, HAVE A LITTLE FAITH AND BE OPTIMISTIC (it is good for you)😉

I feel really lucky to have gotten an interview here and the idea of going to med school in Chicago seems really exciting to me. But I'm scared as heck of the OOS tuition. Do you guys know if we can apply for in-state after a year or so or would I be stuck paying OOS tuition for 4 years...assuming they like me enough to accept me, that is.
 
I'm pretty sure I remember admissions officers saying at a panel Q&A that whatever tuition you come in with is the tuition you will have for your four years.

You might want to look into it because (a) I might be wrong and (b) there might be a loophole. I know the UC's have a loophole where, if you graduated from a CA High school, you can apply for in-state tuition after your 1st year. If you have strong enough ties to IL, then maybe a similar loophole exists?

I do not believe it's "locked in". I know for sure that tuition increases dramatically for M2 + M3 since you are in school for the summer session. Also, I do not believe that Illinois schools in general, participate in obtaining state residency after a year of residence as a student (like the state of Ohio, I know for sure).

That being said, UIC has some very wonderful things it has to offer in terms of patient population and location in the medical district of Chicago! Definitely was up there on my list.
 
So I've been "Applicant in Process" for over 7 weeks. I'm assuming that means I'm on hold... Does anyone know how long it takes for re-review?

jr doctor in sd don't stress too much over the "application in process " and the " applicant in process". Like ismailidoc said, he was " application in process" until he was interviewed! which was april!

I believe your hard work will pay off! 😎

I interviewed here last week and absolutely loved it. Fantastic day and very low stress interviews! It is definitely a special place 🙂

It's hard not to, since UIC does not notify you by email for an interview invite. I believe they snail mail notification for an interview invite, or you just got to keep checking the website for updates. I found out by the latter.
 
So, I wanted to see what the consensus was on this distinction between "application is in progress" and "applicant in process". It seems that if you are "applicant in process" it means they are reviewing your file and you may or may not get an interview invitation. Now, I have two questions. Supposedly if you revert back to application is in progress, that means they have passed you over for now? What if you stay "applicant in process" for a LONG time but never revert back to "application is in progress", does that mean something different than reverting?

I hope that wasn't too confusing. Hopefully someone understands what i'm trying to say, lol.

I don't know if it means anything but I am in the later category, mine has said Applicant in Process for over a month, and I don't recall it switching back to Application at any point.

there was a lot of confusion over this last year (when I was applying). check last years thread for the details but I'm pretty sure it ended up being not a very big deal.

UIC can keep you on the line for a while. After I interviewed they would send me an email every month telling me they hadn't made a final decision on my application. It kinda sucked...

Don't be nervous, be happy🙂, it is an great opportunity to really talk to them and you will meet some nice people there. Think of it like a formal conversation and nothing else. The most important piece of advise: BE YOURSELF! (it will show in your answers and they can spot it easily) and second: it is okay to think before you answer!😀 third (what got some of my friends who did not make it): be HUMBLE, Fourth: it is okay to ask them to repeat a question if can't make it out the first time!! These are 4 things that I followed for my self. GL:luck:

Anyone else interviewing on Oct. 4th? Hopefully I'll meet someone from SDN on interview day!

Looking at last year's thread, it looks like people who interviewed even on Oct. 9th were included in the first batch of acceptances. One of my worries was that I wouldn't hear back from UofI for a month or more since my interview is scheduled so close to Oct. 15th. So it's good to see that that might not be the case after all. 🙂

To people who have interviewed (at Chicago) already, how did you like the 3 interviews format? I'm guessing it's 2 faculty and 1 M4? I really like that more than one person will get to know you (even though they're only 30 min each) and will be able to advocate for your candidacy.

I liked the 3 interview format- 30 min seemed long enough for me, and meeting 3 people was nice. Most people have 2 faculty and a med student interview them. Let me know if you have any other questions! :luck:
 
This might be a dumb question, but how did you guys check your application status? I don't see it anywhere when I log into my secondary, even though I submitted and paid 7/16. Someone help me out?

So I just received this secondary and i have few questions....

1) Does the secondary not let you move onto the next tab unless you completed the tab before it? I wanted to jump around and complete the essays first but it won't let me 🙁

2) Does the information automatically save even if you log out-i don't see a saved button anywhere.

3) Can you go backwards in the tabs and re-do an application section, or once you complete it, its done?

4) Since I can't jump sections, anyone can post the secondary essays here?

Is there any way to get to the Chicago campus from the airport without taking a taxi? I don't want the trip to be more expensive than it is already.

And it seems they don't have student hosting?? Apparently their arrangement charges $75 a night.

Depends what airport, though I believe you can get to UIC's med campus from either by taking the CTA (The EL as we call it). I'm not sure what color you would need to take or what transfers though. Take a look at the med school website or at the CTA website it should give you plenty of info. It costs $2.25 per ride, one way. So even if you get lost it should cost you way less than 75 bucks lol.

Thanks for the info. How late does it run? I'm arriving around 9 PM.

As for the $75... I was referring to the housing for one night offered by UIC. I was thinking of looking into the alumni network at my school to see if an alum can host me.
 
The EL runs very late at night as well as early in the morning. The CTA website should be able to tell you all you need to know about trains...transfers and the like.

I believe the blue line goes straight from the airport to downtown...

Also if you use google maps, above where you type in the destination and departure point, there are little icons for driving, public transit, walking, and biking. Use the public transit one! :luck:

You'd take orange from midway all the way downtown and transfer to blue (towards forest park) in the loop. The trains will have maps that show transfer points in the cars, but it might still be a good idea to run a trip planner.

O'Hare is one end of the Blue Line, so if you're coming in from there, just stay on the train to med center or racine, whatever's closer to where you're staying.

As was said, they do run late. Blue line is 24 hours, though I don't know how late the orange runs.
