My status just changed to:

A final decision was made on your application on . Please allow two-weeks to receive the correspondence in the mail. If you do not receive this correspondence in two-weeks, please contact the Admissions Office. No decision will be given over the telephone.

This is pre-interview, so I'm assuming this is a rejection 🙁. I really don't understand the whole rejection via snail mail... wouldn't it just save time, paper, and postage by posting the rejection on the status page??

I'm sad... I really liked this school...

PS: I like how they don't even bother to put the date where it says "A final decision was made on your application on ."

sorry about the rejection 🙁 did your status ever turn to "applicant in process"? or did it go from "application in process" to "final decision"?

It went from "application in process" to "application is in process" (whatever that meant lol) to "final decision."

GL!!! :luck:

so do we know if the adcom met yesterday and the status changes were made this morning OR is the adcom meeting today with status updates through-out the day? i wish i can stop myself from checkingggg

hahaha I couldn't agree more. Every time I refresh the page, I'm like this is the last time for 2 hours..... 10 minutes later, it's all over.

Oh, and I think they met today given some earlier comments about checking late last night and then again this morning, during which the status changed.

You're telling me. Hypothetically, if we weren't reviewed during this past adcom meeting post-interview, would we have to wait another month till they meet again or will they meet more regularly later in the cycle?

We have to wait another month. The adcom is suppose to meet the 3rd Thursday of every month, but in january it was the last Thurday since they had interviews on the 3rd Thurs..

I feel like my chances of being accepted are reduced with every meeting 🙁

Thanks for both of your replies. How did you feel your social life and free time in general were while during your first year in urbana?

Uhh.. You have enough? It's hard for me to say because I didn't turn 21 until the February of my M1 year, so I flat out wasn't able to go out places with my friends (except for a few places that were gullible enough to take a fake ID lol which isn't easy in a college town!). I felt like I had a relatively well-balanced life during M1 year. If you study hard and stay caught up during the week, you should have plenty of time to enjoy your Friday and Saturday nights. Champaign-Urbana is definitely not short of fun places to go out! (Of course, take this from someone who grew up in a rural town haha)

Relatively speaking, we had a lot more get-togethers and parties M1 year (at least every three weeks or so). Fewer M2 year (once or twice every couple months). And this year even fewer (once every other month at most).

I severely dislike the status of "decision pending" especially after EVERY adcom meeting for the past 3 months. 😡

My status changed today to "final decision..." and I got the additional correspondence tab up top. Is this likely an acceptance?

Interviewed during the first half of February for those who like dates. GL everyone!

Most likely! Congratulations! 🙂

I interviewed back in mid. November and am still seeing that "decision pending". I guess all we can do is wait. Stay patient and Good luck!

Just wonderinf if anyone had any updates...so far I'm still 'decision pending'

I suspect the answer is the same as it would be to anyone who has a final decision status change post-interview this early on. Congratulations.

I'm new to this thread but I'm interviewing Monday 🙂 I was wondering, how are the first and second years graded at UIC? P/F?

Urbana website says grades are given as O/S/U. Outstanding, satisfactory or unsatisfactory.

Anyone know if there's an accepted students day? Or when classes start this fall?

Congrats! I'm in the same boat, but I won't celebrate til I see a packet. I've spent so long being neurotic that it's hard to be optimistic :scared:

Doc, I have the same message, but there isn't a date in the additional correspondence box .. does your have a date listed? The only date I see on mine is in the "Current Status" box

Thanks!

I guess I am not worried cuz I have other options, but I think we should be expecting good news from what the others say. 😀

I don't have a date there. Hope this helps calm your nerves.

Not sure if this is a silly question as I will be trying my hardest regardless.... I know the Chicago campus does a pass w/ honors, pass and fail system of grades, but I was curious as to what the breakdown is usually in that if it is done based on a certain percentage of students each get one of those grades, or if its just performance in class and where you fall is what you get (theoretically everyone may get pass with honors or perhaps fail- which obviously wouldn't happen).... if anyone has any insight, that would be appreciated.

It's usually a standard deviation above that determines the honor level. That said, it also depends on well how everyone does.

I think honors usually ends up being about the top 15% percent of the class. There are a few classes where everyone has done so well they've had to allow more people to honor. IMHO, P/F/H is really nice because you're not scrambling for every point, but you still get rewarded for working hard.

Pass level is absolute and set before the tests - e.g. you have to get 65% of your answers correct (no curve).

+1 to this post....I didn't have a date there when I was accepted...so hopefully you're good to go 2050vslb!

Hi all,

Did anyone whose application was not decided on this month get that customary email from Linda informing us of that?
I've been unfortunate enough to get two of those so far, but didn't get one for the lack of decision in February. Not sure what that means...

No e-mail from Linda on my end and I am still decision pending (since Nov.). Don't know if they just decided not to send it out this time or what, but i'm going to guess none of us "decision pendings" got it for this past review.

Yeah I've been "applicant in process" (pre-interview), NOT "application in process" since around September-ish. Should I assume this is a rejection by now?

hi guys,

no e-mail from Linda on my end either..

Question- are the interviewers part of the adcom or is the adcom a completely separate group of people?

Hey toppers. My interviewers in Peoria said they are were not part of the adcom, that they only filled out a form about the interview. Not sure if this is true for everyone else though.

For anyone who has the additional correspondence tab and a "final decision" in their status from last Thursday... Have you received mail of an acceptance, rejection, or waitlist yet? The wait is killer!

I'm in the same boat, but August for me. I just called and I didn't really get anything out of them. They just said that they update things on Thursdays, but I won't have any change tomorrow. I think if they wanted to reject us, they would have done it by now. I don't have much hope though. Ohwell

I got the fat packet today in the mail after a final decision was made on Feb 25th. So like 5 days after. Good luck to all of you who are still in the hunt. I literally have canker sores in my mouth from the stress of the wait, so I feel your pain.

Are you in the Chicago area? I'm still waiting on the mail...

Hey everyone! I'm out of town for this week, so I can't check my snail mail and am wondering if you can help me decipher if I was accepted/rejected, post-interview. I have the yellow box status with the "Additional Correspondence" with no date in it, and then the "A final decision was made on your application on 02-25-11. Please allow two-weeks to receive the correspondence in the mail..." in the box underneath it. Has anyone gotten this status but then been rejected? What does the rejection status look like?

Haven't yet, but will by this Sunday! The deadline is March 15th, so I don't think we'll hear anything until after that date...

So far, it looks like this sort of message means a positive decision has been made. Look on page 11 of this thread for an explanation of the various statuses. Also, the dean of admissions said that it is rare to deny candidates immediately after the interview, so I'm optimistic about this type of decision.

As you might expect though, I'm not celebrating until I see the mail.

Chicago sounds much more consistent..

In Urbana, when I was an M1, the minimum pass level was never set higher than 60% for exams (and never really set lower either). There was no curve, per se, but questions that a very few number of people answered correctly or that were deemed to be "unfair" were thrown out, or additional answer choices would be counted as correct. It always seemed that this happened to a greater degree when the class average was low and a lot of people were below passing.

Anatomy Lab was 65% (13/20) and sometimes a question would be thrown out if a tag was found to be slipped or something, but for the most part it stuck at 65%.

In Peoria, for M2, the pass level works similar to Urbana as far as no curve but post-test "adjustments" to the passing level. However, the minimum pass level was generally set around 70%. This is, definitely, what made M2 harder. I tended to score in the 75-85% range both in M1 and M2. The difference in M2 is that since the MPL is higher, you are cut much less slack. During M1, given the cumulative nature, I recall going into finals week I would have already "passed" most of my lectures even if I had skipped the final exam.

Speaking of which, there's an urban legend at the Urbana campus about the Anatomy Lab. Supposedly a few years back, there was a well-prepared M1 student who had scored enough points (at least 52/60) to where he wouldn't need to take the final Anatomy Lab segment test because the MPL was going to be set to 65% or 52/80. So, he decided to not study for nor take the Anatomy Lab test, was absent for it, and was failed from Anatomy Lab on character by request of the lab professor, Martha. He then refused to sit for the notoriously and ironically impossible 1-day, 80-question, cumulative Anatomy Lab make-up test, and was forced to repeat M1, Anatomy and all.

I don't know if that's true or not... but it's a sad story if it is...

No problem! To top it all off, I got a packet in the mail today! 👍 Never had a date show up in my additional correspondence, so that bodes well for all the others in the same boat.

Good luck to all!

Interviewed on 1/14 and I received my acceptance letter last week from U of I. However, I will be withdrawing my spot--the OOS tuition is legitimately frightening. Good luck to everyone still waiting!

You might still be selected for an IS scholarship tuition waiver later on.
