Hi all,

Did anyone whose application was not decided on this month get that customary email from Linda informing us of that?
I've been unfortunate enough to get two of those so far, but didn't get one for the lack of decision in February. Not sure what that means...

I actually did get an email from her on March 4th. If you didn't get one...does that mean you are closer to being admitted? Ahh...so nervous!😱

Hey Guys,

I called UIC today just to figure out what was going on/etc. All they could tell me is to be patient, and that the final interview day seems to be April 5th. Regardless of what state your app is in, that might help/give some perspective.

I think for the decision pending people like myself...if we still don't get a decision by then, it's waitlist time? 😕

Good luck to all you!

Just to add a little more perspective - UIC has accepted heavily off the wait list in the past few years. Some of my classmates were not notified of their acceptance until July. I remember how much the waiting game sucks, but it's usually due to people withdrawing late/deciding to defer for a year - i.e. it isn't entirely UIC's fault 😛

So keep your fingers crossed and don't lose hope even if you're wait listed - April/May seemed to generate a lot of acceptances last year. If you interviewed, you have a really good shot of being accepted eventually.

Good luck!

I received an invitation to interview for the Urban Medicine program yesterday -- the interview slots are during second look day, but I'm not sure I'll be able to make it for that.

Does any one else have more information on second look, and/or the Urban Med interview (eg: can it be done over the phone, if necessary?)?

Hey all, this is my first time posting but have been following this thread from the start so I thought I would share a little of what I found out.

I interviewed at the end of February and Dr. Girotti said during the presentation that just about 300 + offers had gone out after the Adcom meeting in February. I know there are meetings in March, April, and I believe May after which they compile the Waitlist, which TicTock719 is right about, moves quite a bit. If I am thinking about it right, there are still many offers still to come out! I know I am one of the people hoping to end this waiting game with the March Adcom meeting.

Good luck!

Well guys, just withdrew my application since I was accepted to a better (cheaper) school. Hope it opens up a slot for one of you.

Hi hippo, it would be good if you contacted the program to let them know that you might not be able to make it to second look day. Last year I know they had an alternate interview date for the couple people that genuinely couldn't make it to 2nd look....

Rejected today. Came in the mail, OOS.

Same here.

Same here, except I'm IS. I kinda knew already, though; my interview there wasn't exactly stellar. On the bright side, as my first interview, it prepared me for subsequent ones, so I can't be too bummed about this...it was a learning experience.

Good luck to everyone else!

When did you apply to the UMed program? I just sent my app in Monday, and I'm really hoping for some good news within the next month! :xf:

Rejection Today

Pre-interview

Best of luck to everyone else still in the running.

Anyone know how the UMed application process works? I applied to the program but still waiting on a response from the COM. Do you have to be accepted already before they'll consider your UMed app?

Yes you have to be accepted before they consider your application. And your application to the UMED program does not have an effect on your application to the COM.

I applied pretty much right after my interview, back in October I think...

Good luck with your application! I think the program sounds really exciting

I have a question about OOS tuition and fees...I thought being an OOS student at UIC would be a cheap alternative to private schools that cost around 50K for tuition alone. So I looked it up on their website:

http://www.uic.edu/depts/oar/grad/tuition_prof/tuition_prof_fal10_spr11.html

im guessing we would be "range I" for MD - meaning $34,210 for tuition, right?
so total cost of attendance per year should be ~50k?

Sorry if i am asking something already cleared up but i am super confused since people in the thread were saying that OOS at this school is RIDICULOUSLY expensive but to me it seems much cheaper than alternatives? 🙁 Am i missing something?

That 34k is just for one semester.🙄 Also add in an extra $ 22,000 in tuition for M2 and M3 summers. This is not including fees or living expenses.

Ya, it's deceptively written. The figures you saw were PER SEMESTER (multiply by TWO for annual). Tuition comes out to about 68K for M1/M4, 90K for M2-M3. Total tuition alone (assuming no increases): 315-320K.

Oh gosh guys we'll pay it off eventually

My only question, since Illinois is BROKE and this is a state school could that have a drastic impact on the increase of tuition for the following years?

Withdrew my acceptance from here. I had a Chicago campus placement... Hopefully one of you guys gets it! Good luck!

Has anyone that has been accepted and put Chicago as their top-choice received Urbana placement? Just seeing if there are still spots in Chicago.

Yes, it definitely will.

Well damn!
So how long has the state's funds been circling the drain?
Granted this is wishful thinking, one of the upper classmen mentioned that if we do really well in our M1/M2 classes we can become a tutor for the course and receive a tuition scholarship for the year- I guess I'll be gunning for that position right from the onset!

Hello, I have a question. I'm supposed to interview in the morning of 14th at chicago, but i don't have an address or a definite time. (i was never given an email of such things nor could i find any information regarding interviews on the website. Where can i go for these info?

You should have received an interview invitation in the MAIL and a confirmation of your interview time in a separate letter. Regardless, the address at which you need to show up for an interview at the CHICAGO campus is:

1853 West Polk Street
Chicago, IL 60612

Pretty sure you can just walk into the front desk area and they'll have an attendant or security there; you can get directions from there! Good luck!

thank you so much for your help. I recently rescheduled interview and did not receive anything in the mail. Do you happen to know if the morning interviews are held at 8 30 or 8?

Why does this school charge extra tuition for the summers for M2&M3?
I don't think any other school does this or am i missing something?
what is the extra 22 grand for? is there a way to get out of paying it?

I know of other schools that increase the tuition for those years because those semesters are longer- something along those lines.

No.

The reason for this is because, for financial purposes, Summer term is considered part of the previous academic year, even though as far as registration, you become an M3 after the Spring of your M2 year, and you become an M4 after the Spring of your M3 year.

In summary:
M1 = Fall/Spring (Summer break) = 2 terms
M2 = Fall/Spring/Summer(M3) = 3 terms
M3 = Fall/Spring/Summer(M4) = 3 terms
M4 = Fall/Spring (Graduation in early May) = 2 terms

Hopefully that clarified why M2 and M3 are more..

Does that mean we're shellling out more during our clinical years? Most schools keep tuition flat during all four..or decrease in clinical years...hmmph. Oh well, can't complain (or rather, shouldn't complain)

COA from Chicago - make sure you scroll all the way to the bottom for M2/M3 totals. Also note that you aren't obligated to take the maximum on your loans - if you can survive on 10k/yr, don't take the additional loans. Transportation is typically a lot less than the estimate for IS, since they give you a U-Pass.

Is this school still giving out invites?? I am still applicant in process 🙁

Just wondering....the Adcom meeting should be this Thursday? Also, this might have been asked, but are status updates to the web page made only on the day of the Adcom Meeting (thursday) or do they make changes on Friday and/or Monday.

Just trying to gauge how much I should be tweaking out as Thursday gets nearer! haha.

Has anyone received financial aid award letters (loans/cost of attendances/grants/scholarships) for the upcoming year?

I think that the residency match is happening this week, so I wouldn't be surprised if the Adcom put off their meeting for a week.

This. Match Day is the 17th so if this year is anything like last, they will be meeting the 24th. :xf:

Hey guys,

Does anyone know how strict UIC is about the date for sending the confirmation of acceptance/site preference card back? I just got my acceptance packet last Monday, and saw it was stamped with a return date for today, 3/14. I didn't realize they only gave you a week to confirm and return the materials ... has anyone been in a similar situation and asked them?

I figured when I first got it that I could spend a week looking over the campuses and then send it back .. and then I saw the due date. Really appreciate if anyone has any info on this! Thanks so much!

Well, they probably do. They could diffuse the cost to M1 and M4 bills, but it'll still be the same total amount. I never really looked at it as paying more during M2 and M3 years. The fact is, you're not in school after M1 year because you're on the last summer break of your life, and you're not in school after M4 year because you graduate in May. M1 and M4 should be cheaper.

Hey everyone,
this is my first time posting, but I have been accepted to UIC and submitted my preference card a couple of weeks ago. I still have yet to hear back about my placement. Does anyone know how long on average it takes to hear back about placement? Also I received a Save the Date e-mail today for the Chicago campus... does this most likely mean that I have been placed in Chicago? I really want to stay in the city!

My status just changed to Decision Pending. :scared: It's safe to say that I've never wanted anything so badly in my life than to be accepted to UIC COM. This next week and a half is going to be so emotional....

I know the feeling startswithb...ill be rooting for you just hang in there! If you dont mind me asking when did you interview? I only ask because my status still says evaluation not complete and I interviewed right after the Feb AdCom meeting.

I am def. not going to be able to focus on work for the next 10 days...way too stressful.

It took me about a week to get my confirmation, but that was in mid October or so. I'd say you should wait until you hear back officially 🙂

I think they have spring break next week, so I would think they would do it this week. Plus they updated my application to "pending" this week. Maybe I'm just hopeful though-the waiting sucks.

But would the adcom really take a spring break? I should just call.

O btw :scared:Lol
