Finally got the letter; 1st Quartile
I'd really like to know how many there are per quartile...I'll prolly try calling on Tue.
 
Says "final decision was made on your application on." No new tabs or anything. I should be expecting a rejection then over snail mail then, right? Oh well, time to start filling out new AMCAS.

I wonder this too. Maybe those in lower quartiles are just not posting? I should get my letter today, and I will post whichever quartile I am in (hopefully first :xf:).
 
1st Quartile!
Now I'm really really hoping that UIC or Loyola experiences a LOT of movment 🙂
 
I have a feeling my letter is in my mailbox. Kind of want to drive home for a bit....I will laugh hysterically if I am the only person in this thread in the 2nd quartile (or 3rd or 4th).
 
Snail mail: placed on the waiting list,1st Quartile, but am withdrawing at this point. Good luck to everyone still waiting!

Seems like everyone's in the first quartile. I wonder if they actually have more than just the first quartile, lol.
 
I was thinking the same thing...haha. Didn't have time to call in and ask how many approx. are in a particular quartile 🙁

First here too. Odd. 😛 maybe SDNers make up the ENTIRE first quartile.
 
I called in today, and they said to call back tomorrow. Counselors take phone calls on Thursdays, so apparently we can find out tomorrow roughly how many are in each quartile. As for them starting to take people off the waitlist, all the spots are currently taken so, it moves only if someone is withdrawing. I assume they just go one by one.
 
Just called in.
There is no ranking within a quartile, they simply pick a fit from within the (generally) 1st quartile whenever a spot opens. The admissions counselor also doesn't know how many people are in each quartile.

Well that seems like an annoying method. I wonder how many people they typically pull from waitlist?

did the counselor say who picks the fit?.. i wonder if the ADCOM meets still..
 
Rejected today...37 mcat and 3.9 GPA, interviews went well, I'm really not sure what they were looking for.
 
I'm sorry bro...you were definitely deserving. That's state schools for you😕.

I bet you got in other places though! GOod luck with everything.

Hey everyone, i hope i'm finding everyone at a productive and happy time in your lives. I know this threat is kinda old, haha, but I hope at least one of you can answer my q -- does UIC (or any of the other Illinois schools for that matter) ask you to prove your residency before they give you your admissions decision? or only after for the purposes of tuition determination? thanks so much!
 
also, now that some of you are students there - when you get a chance, can you tell me whether you think UIC is very numbers-focused? and what kinds of students do they look for/would be happy there? thanks!
 
got off the waitlist 🙂 (i was first quartile) they called me a couple times and left voicemails this past week while i was out of the country, and i just called them and they offered me a spot! they are not sure which campus has available spots yet though.

Congrats! Exciting! Nice to know there's still some hope for the rest of us.
 
Just curious... are any of you OOS students? If so, how do you plan on paying for tuition? 430k indebtedness after 4 years is kind of scary, no?

Yes, 430k is very scary (especially with more then 50% being grad plus loans). I got accepted elsewhere yesterday and withdrew. Goodluck to whoever gets my spot!
 
For those on the waitlist, when you checked your status online, how did it appear? Was it just the "final decision made on..." notice, or was it different? Thanks!

When I got wait listed my status changed to something like "applicant is wait listed"
 
just got off the waitlist today and linda singleton said all campuses are available right now...so if i wanted chicago she could assign me there. i need to pinch myself because that sounds too good to be true--anyone else have a similar experience??

Had the same exact thing happen to me last year! I had a hard time believing it also. Congrats 7712! 😀

Hey! Just wondering...did you send a letter of intent or another recommendation letter or something after being put on the waitlist? I sent a letter of intent and I don't know if it would be too much to send a recommendation letter from my P.I. Any info or suggestions would be appreciated!

Hey,
I sent in a letter of intent/update letter during mid-spring when my application was deferred. I basically just sent in activities that weren't on my amcas application and grades for the fall semester, and expressed my appreciation at getting a chance to interview and reasons why I was interested in UIC. But I didn't actually send anything over the summer, because I was accepted at Rush and couldn't believe there was any chance of getting placed at Chicago even if I got off the waitlist. But I'm sure a letter of intent and an additional recommendation could help you out, because at this point lots of people have made plans for the year that are hard to back out of and may not accept a spot at another medical school so last minute. So I'd say go for it 🙂 And good luck--I really hope things turn out well for you :luck:

Anyways, once you get blackboard access, you can ask all of your questions there and talk to a bunch of M2s and your fellow M1s!

Orientation preparations have also only just begun (at least from the M2 side)! GL and Have fun for the rest of your summer! 😀
