Lol yeah, I grew up in a small town - 3 in my class, moved my jr. year and graduated with 58. Then I moved to Tucson and lived there for 7 years and now I am in Kansas at another small town. It was pretty crazy living in AZ at first, but now I actually miss it! lol

I live in town right now, but I know my husband hates it and wants to move out of town and find some land. I'm not looking forward to driving 15 mi to go to store or do errands. I'll have to plan out things a little more lol.
I like big city life so a small town will kill me lol. And yup, with everything received by AMCAS, it takes one day for ED.

Can we put in our secondary under the activities addition that we were a part of the first school-specific thread on SDN to get 5 pages?

I think it's a requirement? :meanie:

I just voted that our thread was excellent!

Yeah it's going in then. "2nd poster on 5th page of school-specific" word.

Thanks for the lucky charms guys, I hope they helped. Man it was incredibly stressful and I probably took like 300 big breaths while I was in that exam room, but its over now. I thought PS and BS were pretty tough this time and for some reason, I think I knocked verbal out of the park. That will probably mean a different score breakdown than last time but even last time I remember not being very confident and then doing fairly well.

Cheers to you others that are waiting for your scores and good luck :xf:

I just finalized my secondary, but do we need to send the waiver forms to each of our recommenders?! I'm pretty sure most of them are not in their office and this would definitely hold up my application.. any thoughts on this would be much appreciated. Thanks!

You rocked it... I know it. 🙂

the waiver stating you will not see the letter?

I didn't send any waivers. Don't think you need to if they are using online submission. I even had a professor last year send it snail mail without a waiver. Of course I still wouldn't look at the letters anyways.

I'm not sure if you have to send the waiver or not, but I do know you have to make sure you include the "cover" page that you print off of AMCAS.

yup, I gave my writers the cover pages from AMCAS since the new waiver forms weren't available before July and my letters are posted on the secondary website.

any big plans for the weekend?

I think a solid weekend of video games is in order for me, what about you :meanie:

👍 I did that last weekend. Not too sure what I'm doing yet. Have to do the typical domestic stuff, but I'm pretty sure video games and movies are in there somewhere. 😀

So I feel like everyone else in here has their MCAT done....except me.

It will be here before you know it... trust me. Then the real waiting begins!

Haha, is it bad I'm more anxious about having to wait a month? Luckily I found a job for a month before going back to school so that should keep me pre-occupied for the most part. :scared:

I was the same way before I took the exam! The thing that really sucks, is I have NO IDEA how I did. I don't have a feeling of "man I sucked it up big time" or "yeah, I kicked butt!" It's kinda ---- blah---- and that kinda scares me. lol I usually have no idea how well I think I did on standardized exams, but on other tests when I feel I did bad, I did good and vice versa. So I don't know what to think.

I won't be surprised if I have to retake. I didn't get to prepare as well as I wanted and had a bunch of other things going on at that moment and my practice scores were low. So I guess if I do have to retake, I will be prepared for a bad score!

Sorry for the long post. I'm at work and filling in for the receptionist while everyone else is in a meeting so I am a little bored. :meanie:

Yeah my science scores have been going up, but my verbal has dropped... so I'm really digging deep these last few days so that verbal isn't my faulty point come Friday. I have a friend that just took the DAT and I'm jealous they get their unofficial scores right away.

The first time I took it, my friend and I both scored higher than our practice exam scores by about 3 points. Neither of us felt good at all after the exam either. On the other hand, If you've been scoring 23's and 24's while practicing, I wouldn't expect to get a 30+, lol.

I personally think the MCAT is mostly if not all about seeing through the mind tricks that are expressed through words lol. I took it two years ago, but sometimes I miss it so I take out the AAMC ones to take them for fun. Am I weird? lol

:barf:

but yeah I've been getting 30's so I think if I just hold it together on Friday I'll be good.

I know! I have two friends about to take the DAT and I am very jealous they get to know right away. However, I don't know if I would want to see my score sitting there in the testing room. :scared:

haha, (thinking to myself after the test) "alrighty here we go, that went pretty well............*click*....................F***."

Ha. Ha. Ha that's pretty much the way I pictured it!

Let's show the MCAT who runs the show guys lol. Today, I was talking to a general internal med doctor about a couple of research projects and my eyes accidentally slipped to his hair loss lol. I looked back into his eyes and continued with the talk. What would happen if it was an interviewer? Interviewers with distracting features...those should be tagged as non-standard interviews lol

No kidding! I hope my interviewer doesn't have some embarrassing "thing" going on, you know, like a boogey hanging from nose, unzipped pants, etc. I mean, do you bring it to their attention, "um, sorry but you have something right there.... or excuse me but your fly is down" or do you just roll with it an let them continue to embarrass themselves and stress out already stressed interviewees? 😕

It's quite the conundrum. 😎

We're a rowdy bunch lately....

Yeah I want to get rowdy today but I woke up this morning....sick. F my life, I have my MCAT tmrw.

is it strange i have trey songz "say ahh" stuck in my head? you know, "cause we don't buy no dranks at the bar, we pop champagne cause we got that dough"

Yeah I want to get rowdy today but I woke up this morning....sick. F my life, I have my MCAT tmrw.

When I took mine I had to drive to Stillwater, OK and stay at a hotel because the test was at 8am. I picked the hotel closest to the site which was on the OSU campus and a little pricer than other hotels at $109 for the cheapest room. When I got there, I was hungry so I asked the lady at the front desk if they had a cafe, because I was also tired and didn't want to drive anymore. She pointed me to their in-house restaurant. At the last second I decided to change out of my gym shorts and into jeans and a button up because the hotel was on the ritzy side. I walked into the restaurant and oh man did I feel out of place...that was the fanciest place I've ever set foot. A ranch-themed steak house with moose-horn chandeliers, display cases full of top-dollar cowboy hats, museum-style cast-iron sculptures of men on horseback, cow-skin chair backs, etc. This was not, in fact, the typical hotel restaurant. It was a 5-star restaurant that happened to be located in a 4-star hotel. So I began to worry a bit that it would be out of my price range, but I thought I'd get a look at the menu anyways. Took my seat and the waiter came. He was dressed 10x better than me and he was treating me like I was just knighted. Got the menu, checked it out. There was basically nothing but steak, so I looked at the cheapest steak on the menu, which was a 12oz NY Strip. The number next to it was "10", so already being out of my mind about the MCAT I figured that was a great price for a steak. The waiter said it came with potatoes and green beans too, so I thought 'Wow', not bad! Ordered it medium rare and it arrived 20 minutes later. This was the tallest steak I'd ever seen. For a cheaper cut, it was thicker than any filet, as if it was injected with steroids or something. I ate it (it was bloodier than usual) and it was great. Finished my meal, asked for the check. He brought it by and I saw the number. Outside I was like hmm...ok. Inside I was like WTF MATE. $43 for just me! Apparently the '10' I was looking at had absolutely nothing to do with the price. So in the spirit of not making a scene I dropped an even $50 to cover tip and left as fast as I could. It was about 7pm at the time and I decided to go to sleep at 10pm and wake up at 6am. Unfortunately, I hadn't yet finished paying for that steak. I woke up at 2am and spent 2 hours holding my stomach in the bathroom. Tried to go back to sleep but didn't doze off until 5am.

Long story short, hold onto your wallet and get some sleep

🙁 Bummer! I'm sending you lots of good luck and happy thoughts! :luck::xf:

Wow! What a horrible night! Sounds like you had to pay twice for that steak.

omzy, wow yeah that sucks, I couldn't imagine driving somewhere, staying overnight, AND getting sick.

if you've been scoring in the 30s on the practice tests, then you have nothing to worry about lol. The best steak I have ever eaten was at Tao in Vegas....NY strip, medium cooked, which was about $50.....well worth it. My god that steak was soo good. I'd usually go to a steak buffet, which costs about $10 lol. Anyone been looking into the new EM program that was opened in the beginning of July at KUMC? I like EM and Rad, but EM has been pulling me in more and more everyday because it's so useful (so are the rest of the specialties lol) in terms of my life values and expectations.

Hope your MCAT went well today! :luck:

omg omzy.. that's a nightmare, way to go for pulling it off anyway.
(and great storytelling 😀 )

drak, do you have a link to information about that program? (emergency medicine and primary care are my long term favorites.)

lostking, i echoe BWSTW in hoping you had a miraculus overnight recovery and did great on your MCAT!

i just finalized my secondary for ED.. am i the last one to do so? 😕

Yah, good luck from me too lostking :luck::luck::luck:

Genesea, I just turned in my primary, so i'm behind everyone 😀

Sorry if I've missed a previous post, but has anybody received the secondary application to KU yet? If so, would you mind posting the essay prompts on this thread?

Thanks!

These are the links I was talking about

The deadline isn't until August 15th so I don't think you are the last one; but with the standards on SDN, one is supposed to submit the secondary a few hours after receiving it lol

Hah no imo your totally fine. After looking through last year’s thread, it appears that apps were not deemed “complete” on the MEDS page until the middle of august. Considering how EDP at KU seems to work, I would assume they highly scrutinize each application regardless of submission date.

The wait tell September is alrdy killing me.

Anyone see an "AMCAS app received" message on the secondary status page? I see everything else except that. Of course, they wouldn't invite people for secondary if no AMCAS app received. It just seems a little weird not seeing it lol.

so does anyone know what are very competitive stats for regular admission?

like 3.8 and 28 mcat?

The recent MSAR says a 3.7 s/cgpa with a 29 mcat. Based on that, those numbers are competitive.

Hey guys, yeah so I woke up before the test with a really bad ear ache. I worked through it during PS but it threw me off during the rest of the test. I wasn't even nervous at all, just the side of my head throbbing. I have no clue how I did. I can't believe the one week I'm sick this summer and it's during my MCAT. Whatever though, shake it off and keep going.

Has anybody made progress on their apps?

Hopefully it went well for you bud. I submitted everything already and am just looking for the completion status lol.
