So I decided to add UMich yesterday on AMCAS and unexpectedly received an interview invite this morning. Pretty psyched - but I assume I still need to complete the secondary (essays)? 🙁

Wow, congrats! 👍 What are your stats if you don't mind me asking? And yes, secondary still has to be completed as far as I know. It wasn't too bad though, I completed it the same day I received it.

Thanks! 39/3.8
They also sent me a two emails earlier in the month - one encouraging me to apply because of my mcat score and one about the online chat session. Not sure if that had anything to do with it.

You have to complete the secondary at least two weeks before your scheduled interview. Congrats! 🙂

Haha nice, congratz and good luck on the interviews homies.

Interviewing on 9/24, really excited as I've heard great things about their interview day!

Does anyone know how often interview dates open up?? Oct 1st was open this morning then it was gone when I checked it in the afternoon.

Hey Turtlespeed, a few people were asking similar questions on this thread around 8/10-8/11 and this post seemed to answer them:

Looks like the admissions team read your post. This was on their twitter today:

Interview dates offered on rolling basis-not prioritized by stats, etc. More interviewers/rooms allows us to go back to date(s) & open spots.

I don't think anyone can know when or for which dates they will open up, it seems that they play it by ear and add openings as they become available. I hope that answers your question.

Wow, only 50 invites sent since their last update on 8/3! SDN always gives me the impression that tons of interviews are being sent out by schools, it's nice to see the reality of it.

Ok thanks. Sorry for not checking the earlier pages. I guess I was just too excited!

I am wondering how important numbers are for the university of Michigan. I have a great GPA but didn't do so well on the MCAT. I have really good ECs that include 3000 hours of patient care experience, holding positions with my professional association at the university, state, and national level, a wide variety of volunteer experiences, and a Masters degree. I know some schools really are looking at the whole student and not just some numbers. Students with my MCAT still have a very high pass rate on board exams, but the score is just average. Any insight would be great!

As a general rule the big state schools are more score focused, although they certainly take other things into account. They often (it seems) do an initial purely numerical screen, probably using some combination of GPA and MCAT.

Small schools (cough mayo cough) look for other traits, sometimes even more than pure numbers. After all, filling in bubbles or clicking boxes isnt what physicians do on a daily basis!

I dunno about more specifics, like if UM is more holistic than other state schools...

I just submitted my secondary. I checked no for all of the military service questions. It says

On active duty US Military
Veteran of US Armed Forces
US Reserves or National Guard
US Military Dependent

is that just the default or did I mess up somehow. Thank you

This was their recent Twitter update:

"We all continue to read applications. I particularly like reading secondary essays-very insightful & important! More interview offers Friday"

Good luck all! :luck:

Did anyone else have stats that were good enough for an auto interview but did not actually receive one?

^^^On the first page a few people talk about that happening to them. The rumor is that undergraduate institution is also taken into account.

aw man =(. I went to a state school but I wouldn't change anything. Hopefully I can get an interview the traditional way!!!!!

Did anyone get interview offers last Friday like the Dean promised in his Twitter?

Hey everybody

I have a quick question, for the portion of the secondary app where you supposed to indicated 3 of your interests, can one of them be the same as the one that I wrote about in the "your passion" essay, or is it better if they are different, so theyre not repeating?

Still waiting... I've had the "File Complete- Under Review" on my status page since 8/9.

I've been complete and under review since 8/4. Right now, I'm taking heart in the fact that my status hasn't been changed to on hold...

i just got invited to join an honors society whose biggest project falls on the same day as my interview..

any chance i can reschedule?

Which is more important: a one time service project or your professional career? Ask for a different date with that question in mind.

I didn't get one despite a pretty good Mkitty and gpa...

Received one after a week or two though, but I go to a certain school south of them. I think only certain schools are auto invites?

Has anyone interviewed yet? My interview is next friday (September 17th), and I was wondering what kinds of questions UMich likes to ask.

Well if you don't already know about it, you might want to explore the interview feedback section of this website...

What is the earliest I can book my flight to leave from Detroit after my interview?

is anyone on here one of the 25 in-staters or 5 OOS applicants to get an interview invite today? They tweeted yesterday that they would be sent out by noon today.... MAN only 5!!!! from out-of-state??

Huh? U ok man?

lol what? i just really need to get back and want to know the earliest I can book my flight back from detroit. I was hoping maybe 4:30?

ive got a 2 hour flight than a 2 hour drive back to my university.

just felt like trolling today 😀...

That's a tight schedule u got there though. Definitely be beat by the time the day's done.

I got a pre-secondary interview invite this morning. I'm pretty pumped! For people who were trying to figure out the rhyme or reason to it, I don't think it's GPA. Mine is pretty lousy.

I got an interview invite today and I'm OOS...don't know if that means I'm one of the five he was talking about.

On another note, Michigan's interview system is the most restrictive I've seen yet. They only give you three dates to pick from and mine at least are wayyy far apart (Oct and Dec). I'm not quite sure what to do cause they're rolling...so it'd be better to do it in Oct but the date they gave me doesn't work at all.

what are your stats if you dont mind me asking?

College GPA ~3.0, from a while ago
Postbac GPA 4.0 from this past year, for a total of
cGPA 3.2

42R MCAT

I'm an odd applicant.

what about you calvin, Im OOS also, still waiting...........

Wooo I got a pre-secondary interview today 🙂
Not sure if this is auto-interview though. I got the secondary weeks ago.

37R, 3.5, from CA, Top10 Undergrad.

37 MCAT
3.9 GPA
3.9 sGPA
Top 20 (according to US News) national university undergrad (if you think that's helpful)

I definitely wasn't auto-invited cause I sent in my secondary a few weeks ago. Still tryin to figure out what to do about the interview...I wonder if they'd let me reschedule to a different date.

So it seems they decreased the number of interviews from 750 to 700.
