Hi UTHSCSA SDN'ers:

I am a MSI at "The Great UTHSCSA" and I wanted to peek in this forum to check on my ol' stomping grounds and wish everyone luck.

To help calm some of you, since I was undoubtedly in your shoes a year ago, I was complete only a few weeks before the application closing date, was notified of my December 7th interview on November 16th, and received my pre-match offer on December 24th (they sent it out at 1am on the 24th, kind of cool). After my interview here, there was no doubt that this is the place that I wanted to be.

My advice: do NOT worry about your application completion date or interview date, the key is getting one, obviously. I worried too, so I understand. Another anecdote, I have two classmates that were taken off of the waitlist less than two weeks before school started. So, never say never.

P.S. I was a non-traditional re-applicant.

I had a similar situation -- I submitted my application August 21st -- but my application was not COMPLETE until September 21st -ish....

I heard back about an interview in November & interviewed in December -- then matched in February.

It's hard to be patient, but hopefully it will pay off!

not sure how to gauge the humidity question.... i think it gets humid here a lot... but it's not always humid. not as humid as houston i would say -- but that's subjective. 🙂

Got an Invite😱. STATS are supper low. Lower than the various 4.0s and the 3.6s listed on here. Maybe they were all smoking crack the day they picked me!

Congrats!! I'm sure they saw something great in your app! Though, it's awesome to hear they're looking at more than just the numbers.

Any OOSers hear anything today? Rumor has it October 15 is when you can start being accepted from out of state, so I'm just curious to see if anybody on SDN got lucky...

That's what I heard too, and I'm OOS for the Texas schools at least, but one of the other AAMC schools head of admissions emailed us today and said the mandate from AAMC is they can't say anything until AFTER Oct 15th not ON Oct 15th so that made me feel better since I didn't get any phone calls although I did find out I got accepted at one school by accident as one of my interviewers emailed me to say congratulations 😀

Yeah I did lol. UCF emailed me about the October 15th thing and I heard from them the following day (waitlisted 🙁) but I got in at University of Florida. Hoping to hear from the rest of the schools I interviewed at within the next week I'm thinking especially since I'm OOS for Texas and I interviewed at most of the schools over 1-2 months ago.

hey guys, i've never been to san antonio...is it a "fun" city? are there lots of things to do?

So, I grew up in San Antonio (well really Helotes, which is right outside san antonio) so i might not be the best person to answer this question bc we tend to think its overrated but I will try.

there are TONS of things to do in SA. From the obvious (such as great places to eat...great mexican food and burger places!) and lots of movie theatres and such (there is also a drive in one! although i heard it might close...) There are also fun places to country dance and go to concerts. There is fiesta texas and sea world. There is of course dowtown with the alamo and river walk. There are tons of museums and places like the majestic to go see plays. There is the San Antonio marathon and half marathon! There are pretty good malls (one really nice outdoor one) And there are lots of parks around town too! so as for fun...i guess thats more up to you...i've lived there for so long that i think its boring bc ive done everything! (and i live in austin now and like it way better, the downtowns b/w the 2 cities don't compare at all)

but there is my input on the city. If you want to know anything else about it let me know. And it is a really big city....so honestly I really only know my side of the city....but I can try to answer any other questions!

I'm OOS, haven't heard a peep yet. I interviewed on october 4th though, so I don't know how fast their turn around is.

I heard from others on here that they start offering OOS acceptances october 15...not sure about the turnaround time though. I interviewed a couple weeks before you and haven't heard anything either.

Are you applying to Texas schools? The match is a way to torture all of us applicants... Basically, Texas used to do interviews in the Fall and then everyone had to rate the schools they interviewed at... Like if I had interviewed at Tech Lubbock and A&M, I could rate Tech as my top choice (1) and A&M as my second choice (2). Then on Feb 1st the schools would turn in their rating for me. Let’s say that Tech puts me on the waitlist, but A&M accepts me. That means that I would "match" with A&M and would be accepted. It’s like we "accept" each other. Haha.

A few years ago they changed this because a lot of the Texas schools were probably losing students to other good out of state schools by waiting so long to accept people, so they decided to start doing a rolling admissions thing, kind of like how all of the other schools do it. After November 15th they can call anyone they interviewed and tell them that they are accepted. But to make it even more complicated, Texas decided to keep the match... So if you don't get accepted between Nov 15th and Dec 31st, then you end up having to wait until Feb 1st to find out if you matched up with any of the schools you interviewed at... Make sense? Yeah, not really...

Match is only for IS applicants. From what I understand, acceptances for OOS applicants begins October 15th on a rolling basis.

I don't think Noshie has been accepted to UTHSCSA (correct me if I'm wrong Noshie)...but it sounds like she's a Texas resident, in which case she would not hear until Nov 15th at earliest. PM me for info on the pre-match/match process.

they definitely accept updates -- e-mail is the best way to go -- just attach your update letter to an e-mail.

On there admissions website, they say they are going to send out the first batch of pre-match acceptances at 8am on monday the 15th. Does that mean they are all going to be sent out at that time exactly that day? Or are they going to send more than one batch on the 15th, with the first just being at 8? Sorry for the nitpicky question, but if I don't get an email at 8 that morning, I just don't want to be on edge for the rest of the day!

I could be wrong but I think all of the first batch will be sent out at the same time ( 8am on 15th). There will be other prematch batches but those will be spread out between the 15th til end of december.

My Aug. 5th El Paso interview was up right away - however, Lubbock still has yet to update me but HAS updated for other applicants who have interviewed the same time or after me. There's has been showing for nearly two weeks.

San Antonio isn't showing either, I was waitlisted OOS last year and have had trouble with UTHSCSA confusing my status - I want to make sure there is someone from my interview date or later that has it posted before I email them.

according to msar, they only interviewed 64 OOS...maybe they interview them all first and then decide to give OOS acceptances?

Well, they say they start accepting OOS applicants on October 15. I looked at last year's thread, and several people posted on the 15th that they had been accepted. So, either they are running behind this year, or people have been accepted but they aren't on SDN. I really hope its the former!
