Just got into "high priority" waiting list. I need to fill a form to keep my position. And I am not sure about what is "Amcas ID". Is that the same as my AAMC ID?

Thanks!

Hi everyone! Congratulations to everyone accepted and good luck to everyone who is still waiting on interviews/decisions! I started a facebook group for our class, just search for "Albert Einstein College Of Medicine: Class of 2016." If someone wants to be an admin, just message me and we can get started.
I'm so excited to meet everyone in the fall!

Maybe I am missing something, but when I search for the group on fb, it doesn't seem to pop up. Could you maybe post a link to the page?

Thanks!

When did everyone interview? 🙂

I just want to get an idea of when I may hear back.

Apologies if this has already been addressed, but does Einstein have a formal second look?

Does anyone know if the Service and Research scholarship is still open to applications? Also, if someone does not get a scholarship this year, is he/she allowed to reapply for it the following year? Thanks

I interviewed back in early December and still haven't heard back. Any advice?

I'd say go ahead and call them and just check in on your application if you're curious, they're nice in admissions 😉

Wait listed last week about 2 weeks after I interviewed

When did your interview? I am just curious, I interviewed 1/17 and haven't heard anything back yet.

When does the adcom generally meet...once/twice a month? Also I think it depends on when your interviewer sends in your notes. What's disheartening is that it seems most people that are hearing back now are getting waitlisted...seems like its become so difficult to get an acceptance.

Does anyone know where we can check the status of our application, since they closed the secondary application? thanks.

I just gave them a call. Some tidbits of info: 1) They are indeed very nice 🙂. 2) The next committee meeting apparently isn't until next week, so if you haven't been reviewed yet and would like to send in any updates, now is the time!

As for why I haven't heard back yet, I got the standard "it depends on who interviewed you, when the evaluation is submitted, and when your application is presented to the committee" line 🙄.

I interview on Halloween and received my acceptance on January 15th. It took about two weeks to get the physical letter though. (3.65/36R)

So as far as I remember they don't really have an official second look day but the admissions office is really good about matching you up with a first or second year to spend a day with if you wanna see the school again.

And I remember that Einstein was really bizarre with timing of decisions (read: extremely frustrating) but just stick with it and don't let it bring you down. And never hesitate to call the office to ask questions (unless you're really annoying or are calling like every other day). The secretaries are so sweet and amazing and really have a spot in their heart for what you guys have to go through.

Hopefully we both hear back next week. 🙂

I was accepted back on 12/22 (or 1/15, not sure if "Save the Date" email counts), but they booted me out on Monday. I had a ticket for driving on a suspended drivers license in 2006 that showed up on my background report. I didn't put it on my AMCAS application because I didn't know it was a misdemeanor, and I was horribly mistaken. BIG mistake for me to make, and looks like I'm paying the penalty.

Good luck to the rest of you!

Sorry if this is a sensitive question but was your offer rescinded or were you able to talk with someone to explain what happened? If the former that seems extremely harsh.

First they rescinded my acceptance, and I was told they would "reconsider my file" after getting all the documents from Certiphi. They pulled my court file, and because it was so long ago, it didn't include why my license was suspended. I told them it was because of an unpaid photo radar ticket (through email), and the committee revoted on my file. They decided to "let stand the rescission of my acceptance." I tried to get voice-to-voice with the Dean or appeal the decision, and I she said "no" to both. I'm still not sure if I was rejected because they thought I intentionally lied or because the ticket shows that I'm reckless.

That sucks, sorry about. That really is awful. Maybe you should go see them in person

Just for anyone who was curious and hasen't heard any news from Einstein- I called and they said they're interviewing until the end of April. So stay hopeful! :xf:

Does anyone know if they have rejected people pre-interview yet? (wondering if they do silent rejections instead) Thanks!

Interviewed on 12/7
High priority wait list email on 1/26 (placed name on wait list the same day)
Sent in letter of interest on 2/21

Anyone know what I might be able to do in order to increase my chances of getting off the waitlist?

Related to my previous post regarding the waitlist, feel free to PM me. I'd really love to attend AECOM. I grew up in NYC, worked at Montefiore for a year, am interested in urban health/epidemiology. My family and bf will also be in the city while I'm in med school.

And while I was sure that Einstein placements at residencies at Montefiore would be pretty good, I was also impressed by placements at other hospitals in NYC. I'm really interested in IM, and I pulled up the following stats from NYP Cornell (http://www.cornellmedicine.com/education/medicine_house_staff/index.html) (listing a few schools for comparison):

Weill Cornell Residency Training:
2011-2012 Interns PGY1
Stony Brook 3
Albert Einstein 4
Harvard 0
Tufts 1

2011-2012 Juniors PGY2
Stony Brook 1
Albert Einstein 4
Harvard 3
Tufts 0

2011-2012 Seniors PGY3
Stony Brook 0
Albert Einstein 2
Harvard 3
Tufts 1

Of course, I'm not sure how much it fluctuates year by year, but AECOM seems to have a strong showing at an excellent residency program 🙂

Bump original question:

Can any MS3/4s comment on how the last 2 years are run? Things you would change? There was a thread a while back with a poster complaining about the system being inflexible with regards to residency interviews. How are rotations otherwise?

Thanks!

Or... does anyone know the easiest way to get in contact with 4th years? I tried looking for a "Class of 2013" fb group but couldn't find one.

Thanks!

I think you're off to a good start with the LOI. Unfortunately, I don't know that there's much you can do other than to continue to let them know that you're still interested and/or they are your first choice. Search the pre-allo forum, and you'll see there are dozens (if not hundreds) of threads in which letters of intent and interest are discussed.

I'm certainly no expert, but if it were me, I would just be persistent and keep up with letting them know that you're still interested (without going overboard or being annoying/overly aggressive). You sent a letter of interest, now if you have anything new to update them on--even if it's something you told your interviewer, but are unsure if they have in writing--send an update letter and use that opportunity to remind them how into the school you are. You can send a letter of intent if Einstein is really your number one choice--this is kind of like a letter of interest, except that you make a clear, definitive statement that this school is your top choice and you are completely committed to attending if accepted, above all other schools, etc. You can send in a new LOR (from someone you're currently working for, for example) if you can think of one that might help. You can just call up the office now and then to check on your status/the status of the waitlist, let them know you're still interested, and so on.

There are plenty of people on the waitlist. You just don't want to fade into the background. Schools like to offer acceptances to people that they know are really enthused about the school and will come if extended an offer. It makes them look good, and they like to have people who are really happy to be here, who are right for the school and who the school is right for.

I remember seeing that thread...you have to keep in mind the people who are vocal and go to the effort of making threads are the ones who are pissed off about something (much like the reviews on those Rate My MD type sites). Not exactly an accurate representation. I'm sure you know that, though. That said, I think issues like that do happen on occasion almost everywhere, just depends on everyone's unique circumstances. FWIW, The 3rd/4th years that I've met are all happy and have had nothing but good things to say when I've asked about how things are going. I don't really know any well enough to refer you to them, but you can always call the admissions office and ask if they can put you in touch with one to answer your questions.

Has anyone been able to find more information about the intro to biochem course? I've only seen the schedule of dates online. How much does the course cost?

Also, is there anything that current students don't like about the school/think should be changed? Just trying to get a full picture. Thanks!

no news yet. should I count myself out on an II?

Yeah, no reply back yet.

Does that mean no II? Do they do silent rejections? And does anyone know if they're still holding interviews?

I think they interview into mid-april so I wouldn't count yourself out...but if you haven't heard by the end of next week I wouldn't keep your hopes up too much because I feel like most invites are now for late march/early april.

For those that are post-interview and waiting on a decision...I looked at last years thread and there was a way to check your status - i.e. "Presenter's notes in," "Status about to change" - I was wondering if anyone knew how to check their status this year...when I try and log in I get redirected to the new applicant secondary page for 2012-2013.

Here is the link from last year's thread: http://forums.studentdoctor.net/showthread.php?t=728206&page=20

Anyone know on what day of the week Einstein generally sends out interview invites?

Long time lurker, first time poster. cheers.

Can any current Einstein students answer a couple questions regarding housing?

1. In the Student Financial Handbook it says rent for the first year is 10 month duration. So during the summer break, are we required to vacate the room since we won't be living there and paying rent?

and 2. In a two-bedroom apartment shared by 3 people, does that mean two people will be in one bedroom? i'm a bit confused by this because on my interview day i was told that all students will have their own bedroom, albeit a shared apartment.

thank you in advance!

1. no you don't vacate your apartment but you do pay rent over the summer for first year. The research stipend (2500) is more then enough to pay for those 3 months tho.

2. the 2 bedroom is actually converted into a three bedroom that is why each person gets their own bedroom. If you remember from interview day there is still a living room and a small dining area and the bedrooms are "plenty" big 🙂.

I don't get why they insist on continuing to call it "one bedroom" and "two bedroom" apartments. 1br=2br, 2br=3br; however many people it says fit in the apt is the number of actual rooms it has. The way they describe it makes it seem like people are sharing rooms or that they create some makeshift room with a fake wall or something. Not so. As Zebalong said, each person gets their own bedroom, and it's a real room with regular floor-to-ceiling walls, a door, etc. The only thing unusual is that the closets for the big bedroom are out in the hallway (but this also means that person gets tons of closet space). Just wanted to emphasize this, since I was a little unsure of what to expect when I was about to move in.

Re: housing... this may be a stupid question, but do you know if they allow cats?

Yeah, no reply back yet.

Just received interview invite. Completed... very very late, think it was February... 😱 I don't quite understand how to schedule an interview, do I just send an email with what dates I'm available and what time? Canadian applicant here, so quite new. Anyone know?
