I got this same email! I had to re-send my prerequisites to them. This made me unsure as to whether or not I have been considered yet, but I interviewed on Dec. 9th. 😕

I sent them an email with a list of classes I took that should satisfy the requirements. I'll see if they respond before giving them a call.

Mind if I ask what specific requirements your email was about? Mine asked about 2 quarters of English. It also just started off with "Dear." Not even Dear Applicant or Dear *name* so I'm wondering if it was an error. This wouldn't be the first time they had emails sent in error..

Does anyone know if the waitlist is ranked? I know applicants have known their spot in years past....

That worries me since I only have 2 quarters of English...will you pretty please update here about it when you find out. I had my interview early January and felt pretty good about it. Now I am concerned. :\

Yes, the waitlist is ranked. In the past, they have informed applicants their spot on the waitlist but this year, I was told by Admissions that waitlisters will not know what their spot on the list is. Kind of bummed me out hearing that.

Yeah, the way they worded it when I interviewed (01/13-PM) was that this year they will not rank it. There will be pools/groups and they will exhaust each pool one at a time and then come back to them at a later point. However, this does not mean the actual pool is not ranked... So really it sounds like even if it is ranked they wont do it in any fixed chronological order.

oh no ive gone cross eyed...

Anyone interviewing at Tucson tomorrow (1/27)? Anyone already here for the interview? If you are, PM me.

I completed all my prerequisites also, but for some reason they had an error saying that some were still "in-progress." They wanted me to re-send everything anyways. I will follow up with them soon because I haven't heard whether or not my application is good now.

If you are on a quarter system, you have to have 3 quarters of English. It's either 3 quarters or 2 semesters. It shouldn't affect whether or not you get accepted, but you will have to take another quarter or semester of English before you matriculate.

I can't speak for anyone that you have spoken to, but as it stands, the grading system is P/F. The only change that may be coming is whether or not you will be able to include a graph of your percentiles with your dean's letter. I think they are removing this option for next year's class, but this is just what I have heard.

Congrats to all acceptances and GL to WL! Also, in past years the WL has gone into the 70's, so there is hope!

Do you know how the WL is ranked?

Do you know how the WL is ranked?

I am not sure what info you are looking for here. I assume they make decisions for WL similarly to acceptances. I don't think there is a specific algorithm. From another post, it looks like they may also be changing the WL process a bit. In previous years, it was ranked and the people on it knew their spot. They were accepted in order as spots opened up. I am thinking the new OOS residency rules may impact this a bit, as they can't exceed the max OOS %. As always, I am just making a guess, as I have no specific information about changes to the WL process. If that didn't answer your question, just clarify what you are looking for and I will try and answer it again.

.....this process sure can do that to you. I'm guessing based on the information you and I got at our interview days, they're probably doing some sort of tiered list that will separate OOS and IS. They're probably going to be a lot more careful about that this year with the change to 50% OOS. I will definitely be interested in seeing what the applications/interview/accepted/matriculated ratio will be this year for OOS with the change this year.

for those of you worried about the prerequisites email, you might want to follow-up if you haven't heard back. I just received clarification for my situation today via email. I wrote a few emails and called them last week and finally got cleared today. I was told the prerequisites are being handled administratively so your status should not affect whether or not you are offered an acceptance.

:luck: Good luck to everyone waiting! Has anyone been accepted after being passed on in an earlier round? (and not passed on because the release date was too close to your interview date). Just trying to gauge whether a pass = wait-list/rejection..

Hey everyone,

First year med student here to help. A few comments about acceptances. They have three more acceptance dates left in the year, although they will not give specific dates. There will be two in Febraury and one in March. After that will come the wait list. Currently it looks like we will not be doing a ranked wait list. As soon as the Admissions Commitee releases the wait list format, I will let you. Until then, unfortunately we are just waiting.

Let me know if you have any questions about the process.

P.S. For those of you that have been accepted, you should join the Facebook Group, University of Arizona College of Medicine Tucson Class of 2016.

Thanks for the info. I suspected there might be two release dates in February. Good luck to everyone :luck:

Seriously, the FB groups are great - come on over y'all!

Hey Limetime,
Can you elaborate on the topics covered in the 'foundations' block? I assume this is biochem, etc...
Thanks!

Hey Limetime,
Can you elaborate on the topics covered in the 'foundations' block? I assume this is biochem, etc...
Thanks!

I can... it is a "sampler" of lots of basic science topics. Short sections introducing genetics, immune system/inflammation, pharmacology, histology/pathology, organ systems, blood, proteins, cell physiology, cell signaling, neoplasia, development, dermatology etc. I went through the calendar and listed the major topics.

Honestly, do not worry about it, there is plenty of time and most everyone finds Foundations very manageable. It seems a bit disorganized, but the topics get elaborated on in subsequent blocks.

Just got my "You're In!"
UA Class of 2016!!!!!!!!

Congrats!

Congrats! I didn't get a "we're still considering you email.." should I be worried?

Congrats indeed! Mind if I ask when you interviewed?

I didn't get a "we're still considering you" email yet either.. though I don't think it's something to worry about. They won't be rejecting anyone until the end right? Quite a long and painful ride for those of us still waiting...:luck:

Finally, I got some sort of response. They put my application on hold. Ahhhh.....

Lederhosen, have you interviewed yet? Or still waiting?

Hey Guys!

Got my "You're In!" email!

Good luck to the rest of you! Wish you the best.

Lederhosen, have you interviewed yet? Or still waiting?

Still waiting for an interview. I'm been waiting for a while. I had several friends submit secondaries around the same time I did and they've already interviewed (I was a late bloomer in the app cycle). Hopefully I'll hear some good news in the next week.

Congrats! I didn't get a "we're still considering you email.." should I be worried?

Wishful thinking theory: perhaps we haven't received those emails because this acceptance round isn't over yet! must. stay. positive.

Got my "You're In" email too!!!

Thought I had a good shot but I am still totally in shock nonetheless. I'M gonna be and MD!!!!!

Congrats to everyone who just got accepted today! I've been pumped up since I got my acceptance a couple of weeks ago.

Congrats all! When did you guys who got in today interview? I'm wondering if they got to my interview date yet for acceptances.

I really really hope so!!!! I didn't get a "still considering you" email either... I wonder what's going on...so anxious!

So I interviewed on the 21st. Good luck to everyone!!

Hmm.. that does seem so weird that Tucson would send out some acceptances but no "still under consideration emails." I wonder what's going on?! Too bad tomorrow is Saturday and can't call to ask!

Congrats everyone!!!!

Pablano did you interview the 21st of Jan or Dec?

I got an interview invite to Tucsonvia a phone call this evening! This is a great way to end my week. I was told this was the last round of invites and it is mostly OOS students interviewing. Arizona-Tucson is one of my top choices!

I would love the opportunity talk to a current student off the record. Are there any current students that would be willing to let me crash on their couch the night before and night of? I'm flying from Memphis and as a graduate student, I have limited resources to make this trip.

In case anyone is interested, my stats are:
B.S. Physics and Electrical Engineering
Ph.D. Neuroscience
MCAT 33N
undergraduate GPA: 3.15 (University of Alabama in Huntsville, 2006)
undergraduate science GPA: 3.2
graduate GPA, all science: 3.67 (University of Tennessee Health Science Center)
TN resident

-first author, two papers published, one submitted
-significant research and teaching as a graduate student and undergrad, usuallyat least 60 hours a week, including neuroanatomy to medical students, physics labs, physics tutoring, anatomy tutoring, electrophysiology experiments, mouse surgeries.
-some shadowing (~20 hours), this has been difficult in Memphis due to HIPAA and rules at local hospitals. I've asked more than a dozen physicians (including those who teachat the teaching hospital!) and all but two have said it is not allowed.
-~40 hours of clinical volunteering, patient surveyor at Huntsville Hospital
-~40 hours non clinical volunteering at an animal shelter

For current students, what do u like about UA? Why did u choose it? I don't know too much about the program to make an informed decision.

Hypadude,

My couch may be available depending on when you are coming out. Regardless of dates, I am available all the time to talk off the record about all the dirty going-ons.

Why did I choose UA?

First, it was the only school that I got into, which worked well for me since it was my second choice (second only to Mayo). Tucson has a lot to offer. This medical school has been established for quite some time, meaning that we are stable, and well-known. Also, we are attached to a hospital directly. This gives us the opportunity to spend more time with patients, without having to do so much of the commuting thing. In addition, doctors in the hospital are more receptive to us, on account of the fact that this is a teaching hospital all the way. Doctors are very accommodating of any shadowing or research you may want to research.

Location-wise. Tucson is a big small town. It is roughly 1 million, but still has the charm of a small friendly town. It is very close to hiking, caving, camping, and all kinds of other outdoors adventures. In addition, Tucson is close to the border, giving us opportunities to do some international medicine. Also, our class (and maybe yours) has the opportunity to go up to Phoenix for 3rd and 4th year rotations if you wish.

Curriculum. Tucson does a block-style curriculum. This means that we have classes on organ systems all together, and at the same time. For example, during the Neuro-systems Block, we learn everything from anatomy of the brain to pathology, to its general inner workings. This carries over for each of the 9 blocks that we have. The advantage is, everything you are studying all relates, instead of getting a little bit of each system at the same time.

If you have more questions, feel free to ask.

ME. Do you have AM or PM session? Where can we find itinerary info btw? AZ doesn't even send you anything with details...

I'm in the PM session. I am not sure about the itinerary info or if that will be given to us the day of? Are you in the PM session?

Unfortunately, you won't likely get that info until the day of. If you are in the AM session, you will have ~30 minutes to chat with students in the morning. Then, you will get picked up by admissions and given all the talks about curriculum, the application process, why we are the best, etc. Then you will go to your MMI. After that you will be given an iPad with an application to virtually guide you through the college. During that time, you are essentially free to wander about with your iPad and ask questions of anyone you pass. Since you are wearing a black suit and look scared out of your mind, most of us will recognize you and be more than willing to answer questions. After your virtual tour, you will be going to lunch. 2-3 medical students will join you for an hour long lunch of talking about things off the record. Then you end the day by joining the PM group for a tour of the Arizona Health Sciences Center, the hospital, and all the goodies we have to offer.

If you are in the PM session, your schedule runs slightly differently, but includes all the same things, just in a different order.

Azelle,

Do the interviewers have the application materials in front of them? Do they ask questions specific to your application?

Thanks for your help!

Any pre-meds or current med students out there choose UA Tucson over UA Phoenix? If so, why or why not? They're both really different ...

Hey all they know is your name. It's a closed-file interview.

yeah PM...gonna stay the night in Tucson afterwards too. gotta sight see =D

Hey all they know is your name. It's a closed-file interview.

This is definitely true. They know that you want to get into medical school, and that is about it. The questions will range from ethics to role play, to just open chats about yourself. The questions and situations change for the interviews, so I really don't have any clue what they will ask. But, after each mini interview, the person critiquing is required to fill out a thorough form evaluating you. The advantage of this being that it happens right then, they won't forget you, and it is required, whereas before it was more of a helpful thing.

So, I called admissions just now. She told me that there was a wave on Friday, and somehow some people just didn't get that wave email because there are a lot of people on the list, and we may have been missed.. Not sure why.
