From what I remember, they ask for 3-5 LORs, and two of them should be from science profs.

Tauparticle, I'd call the admissions office and ask about the math requirement. Some, if not most, med schools may not take AP credit, but perhaps UCLA can make an exception since you went through diff eq successfully. 😛

I think that mightve been true a couple years ago, but from what I've seen in my searches, most med schools either dont require math, or take AP credit for it. For the UCs: UCLA and UCD will not accept AP credit. All other UCs will

This was put in bold on UCLA Website
"AP credit will not be accepted for completion of required courses.".
I believe the OP will have to take 2 additional quarters of math if he wants to matriculate at UCLA.🙂

I got the secondary today. Haven't had time to look through it...

Congrats nadaba! Sheesh you can't go to all of these schools! 😛

I still don't have it 😳 Let us know what the prompts are, when you can. 🙂

Actually, I don't think the secondary is up yet. I can't find it at least. I did get an email though! 😳

Screened in! Yay! This was the only secondary I didn't get when I applied the first time, so its a huge relief to finally get it!

Hooray, screened in 🙂 Very happy with this one

Weird...I don't actually see the secondary app even though I got the email. Anyone see the essays or anything?

But... *crosses fingers that there aren't any essays* 🙂

Edit: just came through and a ton of essays. Sorry if I jinxed us.

Still haven't received it (was verified in first batch, got all other UCs so far). The neuroticism builds.

Got my secondary too. Go to the status page and you should be able to click on 'request' by the supplemental application. There are about 6-8 essays to complete, all 800 characters.

looks like the status page updated!
time to get to work

The secondary looks to have the exact same questions as last year, for anyone interested. 👍

i didn't know they don't accept APs, which means i technically only have 1 year of chemistry completed in college. not even gonna bother filling out this long secondary

this is not bashing on you but...

why would they screen you in if you don't fulfill their requirements...?

congratz though.

hoping to receive mine :xf:

Got the UCLA invite today! 😀

Still waiting for the UCSF one though 🙁

i have no idea, unless they counted some other random class to fulfill the chem req
why would they ask you if you fulfill all the reqs on the secondary if they checked before sending you one?

you should definitely send them an email or call them to check to see if you fulfilled their reqs...

though i live in NY now, my parents still live in CA! still waiting on UCLA and i WENT to UCLA for undergrad. bleeding blue and gold while waiting...

just got the secondary invite. it's under the status page. looooots of essays for this one

Whoo, good to finally see some action in this thread! 😀 Congrats to everyone who's received a secondary! There are a lot of essays, but honestly, 800 characters/prompt is not much... I remember that the hardest part of this secondary last year for me was figuring out how to pare down everything I wanted to say to within that limit @-@ So be concise!

Damn. I really liked this school and got screened in for the secondary, but I don't and won't have the prereq of 2 years of chemistry due to AP credit. At least I realized it before I spent another 70 bucks and time writing a whole lotta essays. Good luck to the rest of you!

yea i took a calculus class in the spring to cover it. all the UCs require the calc requirement i think

Hmm still don't have secondary, was verified before the 17th. Does UCLA send it out in batches?

Does anyone know how they screen for the mstp? Like do they even screen for the mstp?

Holy eff, UCLA! Has anyone seen the "disadvantaged information"--which is longer than the secondary? Also, see language:

"You must be able to provide, on request, sufficient documentation to verify all information. If after you review the questions on the form and decide that you do not qualify for disadvantaged consideration, you may withdraw your request for disadvantaged consideration by following the instructions at the bottom of the form."

Honestly, I can't dig back as far as they want me to. I don't care about being considered disadvantaged by UCLA, but as far as they've stated, my withdrawal of that status would indicate that I'd "decided I do not qualify." It's not that I don't think I qualify; I just don't mind being considered nondisadvantaged ("advantaged"?) in lieu of not having to submit all that info. I think this is a matter of pride and rhetoric.

On another note, I haven't really fulfilled their requirements either (even with APs), but I figured what the hell. I didn't fulfill the requirements for some of the schools I've gotten interviews at, and they've all just kinda been like "whatever." Not that there aren't non-science majors who don't fulfill the most rigid of requirements, but still...

Anyhow, debating what to do. Right now, my options are: 1) submit really incomplete info that doesn't even fit into some of their criteria (there are no free text fields for explanation), 2) withdraw the disadvantaged status from UCLA (which might indicate that I believed I didn't qualify), or 3) withdraw my app from UCLA altogether.

The essays are a piece of joke compared to this section! My parents gave their best approximation. I would prefer to just withdraw this too, but feel really shady suddenly backing out.

I think they have to understand that our parents don't have paperwork from when we were 2 years old...

Haha! I feel totally shady, too. I'm actually leaning towards just withdrawing from UCLA since I'm an OOS-er and stand little chance anyway. But I think that's just an early reaction that may or may not dissipate if I sleep on it for a couple of weeks.

The irony is that I pre-wrote all of my UCLA essays in order to be able to submit if/when I received the secondary (today).

Captain Hook: Bad form, UCLA! (Pun!)

haha that section is a beast, but more so for your parents so if you've pre-written all the essays, I say go for it 🙂

Good luck either way!

I just got an email said they are reviewing my app, is this a silent rejection and did i get screened out? got the same from UCSF and haven't heard anything....wow

."Has there been a gap greater than one year between achieving your baccalaureate degree, and/or
consecutive degrees before applying to medical school? (yes or no). If yes, please explain.".

.I'm confused by the wording here. Are they referring to breaks from college while IN college, or are they referring to a gap year AFTER college?

I took it as more than a gap year. I graduated May 2010, but it says more than 1 year before APPLYING. I'm not putting anything for that since it pretty much exactly 1 year

I'm in the same boat. Hopefully we're still in the running.
